What do you think about personal responsibility and following guidelines?

There are many suppliers which ship directly from China, you have to find the companies which ship from the US.

I ordered through Amazon. I have no idea how to find a suppler from China. Do you have some links to share?

Maybe a better analogy is wearing condoms to prevent HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. But that is not mandatory by law. It would be impossible to track LOL. I bet if it were trackable, we would have a law about it. I read somewhere that masks are the new condoms. ;)
Great minds think alike. I , too, was thinking about STDs and was imagining the uproar if the government was poking their executive orders into our bedrooms.

Amazon has pretty much opened up their platform to any and everyone who wants to sell something. Most of the 3-ply masks advertised on Amazon are by companies in China. You need to read each ad as to whether the masks are shipped directly within US and with available stocks here.

I must admit, I didn't expect that analogy. ;)

A good opinion piece on why dissenting scientists and opinions (within reason-which is also addressed) should be heard.
BTW-WHO doesn't recommend routine use of masks in a community setting (ETA to add the community part), but does have a graphic on proper use. I'm sure everyone using a mask is following those guidelines strictly. There are also links in the piece-including one on mask usage. Funnily enough the BJM journal article authors promote use of masks even though they freely admit through all the studies they reviewed there wasn't strong science to back their assertion up. And that was with surgical and respirators. Loose cloth face coverings simply don't do anything but keep some dust out. It's questionable policy being based on crap "science" I object to.

Are you kidding? They’ve done so for decades! There are laws against unprotected sex by someone who knows they have a STD. For example: https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/resources/transmitting-std-criminal-laws-penalties.htm

So the drugstore someone else posted that had blocked off their contraceptive sections as they didn't believe they should be needed during times of social distancing or some other such nonsense should be charged as potential accessory to a crime? ;)

I have an 85 year old mom, too, so I understand the issues there. On the flipside, my mother lives in assisted living and I feel like she's being held hostage there. Trust me, I understand that ALL residents need protecting, but my mother wants to see her family and we want to see her . It really makes my brain want to explode that she's at the sunset of her life and I'm prevented from spending time with her.

And please, peanut gallery, I don't need moralizing on why this is necessary. I understand it. I just don't like it and am frustrated by it. I'm entitled to feel that way.
Assisted living was an option prior to the virus mom and I were talking about. Today she brought it up and said I am glad I didn’t. It is heart wrenching your mom can’t see you. They should figure out a way, maybe outside with a table in between. Its not a hug, fixing hair , etc but being able to just see each other in person would do wonders.

I'm just going to throw something out, and leave it there. The World Health Organization (who I've got to say I trust more than the CDC at this point in time due to the *nonmedical folks* who may be influencing our policy) still stays that there is no need for a healthy person to wear a mask unless you are caring for someone who is sick.

I’m not a lawyer... I see the humor in this, and yet I think it’s curious that any store would take such action. I wonder in what part of the country this store is located.

But now you are pointing to a law and you are saying we shouldn’t need laws for the masks.

Did I confuse you? I did not connect the two issues, others did.

No I wasn’t kidding. I didn’t realize there were laws about this. Relax.
You seem like a lot of fun.

Actually, I’m quite relaxed. Thanks for asking.

I'm glad you got the joke LOL. It is curious that any store would do that. I don't remember what thread that was posted in though

But what if that person is asymptomatic? They are all double talking.

I hear you, Panina. But I've got to believe that WHO has some smart people, too.

Somehow, the idea of fighting the virus with a bandana or a sock over my face as the CDC says is an option for mask making...well...it'd be funny if it weren't the truth. I have to wear a mask at Target if I want my job. It comes off the moment I punch out. I've found that I touch my face way more with that mask on (I wear it for 8 hours sometimes) and that people get far closer to me.

Did I confuse you? Making masks mandatory would make the analogy similar. Passing a law for public protection. A weak point to me is how affective masks are, especially when exercising social distancing. Prolonged exposure is a large part of the equation.

But what if that person is asymptomatic? They are all double talking.
Remember this is still NOT PROVEN but speculated on how transmission is occurring - from all reports probably correct- It is still not known how long a contact has to be, a "lab model in ideal circumstances" of how a virus droplet hangs in the air is NOT indicative or real world (especially out of doors) viruses act, and it is not know IF those virus particles DO hang around for an extended time IF they are still viable enough to cause infection, especially severe infection. This is bandied about by CDC and media as FACT when in fact it is not FACT. We just don't know and to make laws on Maybe/possibly is not good enough. Recommendations-ok-give recommendations.

I do now wear a cloth mast while out in crowded areas like stores. I don't wear a mask in own yard, walking in my neighborhood etc.

Even though my county is currently a hot spot of infections, they are not yet required here. But still wear one. I try to avoid crowding or standing too close to others whenever possible.
