Ok then, I'm certainly not now or ever have been a coal roller in that capacity.
Never intended to suggest you were. I was just pointing out it was a thing. Just like people hating on EV owners for absolutely no good reason.

This was my vehicle combo up until now too! Maybe it’s not as weird as we think.

We have both a 2023 MY LR and a 2018 RAM 1500 full size pickup. I don’t see us getting rid of the RAM pickup any time soon given it’s paid off and only has 63k miles on it. I use it often enough to haul refuse and other larger items, along with surf fishing several times a year, which requires a 4x4 with at least 8-9 inches of ground clearance in our state.

Not too hard to figure out:

Gotcha. So the vehicle which has no connection to coal is called a “coal burner”. Vehicles running on electricity which is produced mainly by coal are not…

which EVs run on electricity produced mainly by coal?

pop quiz: how many states have coal as their largest source of electricity?

related question: what is the population of those states? what percent of the American people live in those states?

ok, I can't stop: how many EVs are registered in those states?

finally: what percent of all EVs are registered in the states which have coal as their primary source of electricity?

ok I'm done.

IEA data by consumption and production below. Note renewables (solar/wind) now account for a greater percentage than coal here in the US for both production and consumption, and contrary to the FUD coal accounts for only 11% of consumption and is under 10% of production and falling every year since roughy 2005.

Wow! Why did you insert the word “mainly” into your rant? To turn your “opinion” into a “fact”?
2023 percentage of electricity produced using various fuels is provided below. Looks like Coal is in the 30% category. That’s in the US. Look at China where EV sales are higher than the US.
So, yes, EV’s are powered by coal produced electricity. If I had said coal and natural gas, then you could have used the world “mainly”

Thanks for providing data from the US. EV’s are driven worldwide, especially in China.
To clarify, EV’s in China and India “mainly” use electricity produced by coal.

sorry I did say mainly. Apologies and correction to “some” coal in the US.

Actually, the term for the action is "rolling coal"; they don't say the vehicle is a "coal burner" (kind of a big difference, IMO). They call it "rolling coal" because it looks like a big cloud of coal dust, and smells like it as well.

The link I provided shows under 20% - here’s a screenshot from the link. I meant 20% not 10% - fat finger on my phone:

More importantly - renewables now account for a greater percentage than coal. So it’s not accurate to state that coal accounts for the majority of production - last I checked we all live in the US.

Last I checked EV’s are sold worldwide. Vastly more in China, 70+ per cent electricity produced with coal.
My point was about the “name calling” of diesel trucks. I personally don’t like name calling of any kind. Especially when we have the pot calling the kettle black….

im fascinated that "biomass" is categorized as renewable energy (to make up 40% of that entire category).....but somehow separate from coal.

do the folks that make charts not know what coal is made from?

Of course they do. They just separate "dug up" biomass from "lying above ground" biomass.

From Naked Gun 2 1/2

"Dug up - Bad."
"Above Ground - Good."

I mean, im perfecly ok with separating oil/gas, from coal, from wood/trash/etc as fuel sources....but that just seems odd especially since its the majority of that entire segment.

(lets not even get into where oil comes from either!)

Driving an electric car in Quebec is a real zero emission because 99% of the electricity sources are clean (hydro and wind) compared to the USA where most of the electricity production generates carbon dioxide (pollution) in the air that contributes to the climate change (warming up).

Natural gas and coal look right. The 36% Petroleum is not correct…. More like 2-3%.
