154K Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee PHEVs Recalled over Fire Risk

I read about this. It's interesting that all of the major auto manufacturers are about to go under because of Federal Mandates requiring them to develop ev's. Even Toyota and Honda are having problems. The big problem for these auto makers is they are running factories that are making too many products. It's a problem to make ev's and ice and that gives Tesla, Rivian and other EV only makers an advantage. imo.

It appears to be a software issue. NOT a 'Federal Mandate'.
Faulty high-voltage battery packs

The problem is due to faulty high-voltage battery packs that can catch fire. Jeep dealerships will perform a software update and, if necessary, replace the battery packs in these plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). As with all recall repairs, the fix is free of charge.

You are right but if there wasn't an EV mandate there probably wouldn't be a hybrid battery software glitch to deal with.

That wasn't the point. I was wondering if a non-ev parked like the Tesla did, would you feel the same regarding the vehicle taking up two spaces ? When we saw this, the top floor area of parking near the wall is closest to the elevators. It kind of pissed us off that someone without a handicap placard would park like this considering how close these spots are to the elevators.

Because it was a Tesla, I think for us anyway, there was just a bit more dislike than if it were a regular car because it just seems like some entitled a** in a Tesla that could easily fit in a parking spot, trying to protect their car. The truth is we would think anyone parking this way so close to the elevators is an a**, but for some reason, a Tesla gets more hate which is probably why people vandalize Tesla's at a higher rate than a clunker.

Bill

The fact that you seem to believe that a vehicle’s method of propulsion has anything to do with the content of someone’s character or is in any way indicative of whom that person may be, is where you really need to examine your own thinking.

We’ve all seen many vehicles of all makes and models park this way - far more ICE vehicles in fact - given BEVs are very much a minority of vehicles on the road today.

People who are clueless about the differences between SDVs and ICE vehicles, all of whom seem to have something against BEVs for no good reason, will key or damage Tesla vehicles in parking lots, not realizing it’s all being recorded in Sentry mode. These rather dimwitted people are then shocked when they receive the video footage showing what they did and are then held legally accountable for covering the damages, as they should be.

Yet another example of why I wouldn’t buy any other BEV other than a Tesla. The BMS is what matters, along with the design of the pack itself. Legacy manufacturers are way behind Tesla in these all important areas.

The biggest problem for legacy auto is they have no clue how to build SDVs and are using outdated manufacturing techniques to attempt to build BEVs - which is exactly why they cannot make money on a per unit basis regardless of scale. This is actually also a problem for Rivian and Lucid and other pure BEV manufacturers as well, though Rivian is finally starting to get close to per unit gross profitability hopefully in H1 2025 timeframe.

It's an odd thing that there is a group of people that really hate Tesla's to the point of random vandalism. I'm not sure if there is more Tesla's vandalized than other vehicles but because of the cameras, it is certainly seen more often. Recently a bunch of Cyber Trucks were vandalized in protest of Elon, which kind of gives a clue as to who and why.

IMHO it’s not just Tesla - it’s likely just as much about Elon Musk himself. Many people like the Tesla products - but don’t like the CEO at all given his predilection to share his opinions openly on social media. I suspect this would also become the case for many other companies if their CEOs would do the same - however this isn’t the case - most CEOs maintain a much smaller public profile when compared to Musk - and are not nearly as outspoken - largely by design so as to avoid impacting their businesses in either direction.

I agree. It's too bad the Elon haters are taking it out on Tesla owners.

I would say there has been a very large group of people who have hated the Toyota Prius over the years as well. It seems especially high with those that own those big, diesel powered pickups, as "rolling coal" in front of a Prius seems to be something that gives those pricks their jollies.

Do a Google search on "Hate Rants on EVs"
Will give you an idea of one of the sources of the animosity towards EVs

I'm in the coal rolling diesel pick up category as in a modified gen 1 Cummins Dodge Ram that I like. I kind of doubt any of us hate on Prius.

I think you are mixing up hate for hyper-miler Prius drivers on a highway with regular Prius owners. Who doesn't hate on a person doing 40 mph, when the speed limit is 60 mph, so they can get a few extra mpg's, while holding up a line of vehicles ?

Been there, done that. A-hole contractor with an equipment trailer parked across 3 handicapped spaces in a hotel in Charlotte NC. The real point is that you seem to view all the slights and indignations that have ALWAYS been around and heap them on EVs.

Hummers used to be the target of indignant entitled a-hole prior to Teslas:

I did a search on this jeezer and saw a picture of him playing H.S. basketball in the NW (Seattle part of the country), your neck of the woods Bill.

I never really like Hummers but could care less what a person drives. I'm not sure why people damage other peoples vehicles. I bet it's many bad reasons. I had a person throw a pop at my SUV in Canada. There was a racial slur included so I know what it was about.

I used to see it more often than you think. Plus, just do a couple searches and you will see it is a thing. I think less common now since those same pricks have turned their idiotic attention towards EVs in the last few years.

Here's a quick Google search for you if you still don't believe it is a thing: Rolling coal in front of Prius. Tons of videos and discussions about this idiocy.

Ok then, I'm certainly not now or ever have been a coal roller in that capacity. Occasionally, if it's cold out, the gen 1 Cummins will belch exhaust between shifts and occasionally my neighbors might be behind me for a bit before they could pass. Never knew that was a thing.

Why is a diesel pickup called a “coal roller”?
