I was at an HGV presentation today and ended up purchasing an HGV Max package. I'm hoping some experienced owners can help me understand whether what I was shown is typical and whether others have had similar results.

My situation:

- I currently own approximately 114,000 HGVC ClubPoints, all acquired resale.
- Purchased HGV Max enrollment for $15,900.
- Received 8,000 US Trust Points (EOY).
- Annual maintenance fees approximately $993.
- The sales system showed my "Ending Membership Tier" as Centum+.
- There was also a separate "Temporary Membership Bump" to Preferred that expires in 2028.

The sales team explained that once my ownership is enrolled in HGV Max, my existing 103,000 resale points are being recognized for tier purposes, which is why the system is showing Centum+ as the ending tier.

My questions:

1. Has anyone else enrolled a large resale portfolio into HGV Max and ended up with Centum+?
2. Is Centum+ determined by total enrolled points in HGV Max, or only by developer-purchased points?
3. If you have Centum+, any thoughts on
How 0.40 cent point conversion to stay at any property works?
4. Has anyone had their account show an "Ending Membership Tier" during the sales process and then receive a different result after activation?
5. Looking back, do you feel HGV Max was worth it for someone who already owned a large resale portfolio?

I have screenshots from the sales system showing "Ending Membership Tier: Centum+" and would appreciate hearing from owners who have actually gone through this process.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I do know someone who has done this. In their case, they bought a retail deed not trust points to get into HGVClub with HGV Max and their resale were all counted for Max. They came is as Centum. The benefits are similar to Legacy Elite Premier but a higher Lyft credit, OS credit instead of a fixed 30% discount, and some other perks but they don't get unlimited free guest certificates.

You will be a dual owner meaning that you will have the HGVC portal and then The Club portal. Each of the respective points can only be used in each system outside the 7 month Max window but within the 7 month Max window, you can call CS to combine the points for a booking.

You can look at The Club guide to see how many stays that you can get for 8,000 EOY points... Probably not a lot but you are really paying $16k to join Max and get Centum. This assumes that you paid cash and not a loan. If it was a loan, then it would probably be more than that with the monthly payment x 120 payments... Since that is the loan type that they typically do.

If you use the Centum benefits, then it may not be a terrible deal but if you don't, it will be questionable. The free booking, saving, etc. does pay for itself over time and changes the way that you use the system. We are Legacy Elite Premier and really like those benefits but we got it via resale. We book and cancel willy nilly and never even think about deadlines to save, since we can do it anytime for free. Or convert any amount, anytime to HH. The cost savings to book, alone, have covered the resale cost of our Craig Lodges weeks.

You can look in the portal at the Max benefits.

I guess that you will find your actual Max tier when these changes come into effect. It would not surprise me that it was a bait and switch and you come in at Preferred.

I have seen that exact thing happen to an owner. After closing, corporate didn't allow the resale to be counted for Max so everything that they were told was incorrect but, because of this, they were able to cancel the new purchase after the window to rescind had closed. I think they were working through the Vegas office.

If you don't get it, then it was an expensive 8,000 EOY purchase. Hopefully, you have everything in writing, including the Centum... Not just the screenshot.

Given that most trust points (if for a Diamond property) are worthless on the resale market and therefore very difficult to get rid of when no longer wanted (basically can't even be given away) , that purchase for HGV Max - which is only an exchange system - or for Centum, is a VERY expensive one. Depending on how many years you plan to use (and I hope extensively, at that cost!) it could eventually be worth it but you should take into consideration that 4000 trust points a year (8000 eoy) is a very small number of points to use within "The Club". Some of our Embarc members have made a purchase of Diamond points to get into Max and they don't "mix" except in Max at 6/7 months from checkout date. They also did not get the "tier" promised for Max. I would recommend rescinding...

You should get it in writing.

That being said, do you have 114,000 HGVC points or HGV points?

If you have HGV points which is what I assume you do, why not just use DEX? Is there something you are trying to book at 6 months to check in that you can't otherwise get?
If you are trying to book something in the HGVC side, my calculations seems to think that buying something in HGVC might be a better use of your money than dropping $15,900 for what you got. Infact, that amount can finance purchase and several years of MF for some HGVC units.

So.it boils down to what are you trying to achieve?

Do you mean DRI/HVC/The Club trust points versus HGV? HGV is the umbrella company that includes all of them.

The OP said resale so I assume all HGVC then the new purchase of HVC/The Club trust points to get into Max. They could use those in DEX.

Depending on where there own in HGVC, they may also have access to DEX.

Are you still within your rescind time period? The 4K USA Collection Points are pretty worthless and you paid almost $4 per Point. You will not be able to give then away if you decide you do not want them in the future. You can not do much with 4K Points a year in the USA Collecton. Good thing you can save them to the next year for free. Even if by some miracle you are able to transfer the USA Collection Points in the future they lose their MAX Status and are restricted to only being used to Book in the USA Collection.

IMHO MAX is absolutely Worthless.

Apologies, those are the names I wanted to use.

Is everything the sales team stated in black and white print?

Thank you for all the feedback so far.

One thing I should clarify is that my primary goal is not DEX access or booking windows.

My main objective is to achieve Centum+ status so I can utilize the Centum+ travel redemption benefit $0.40 per point and use my existing HGVC points for hotel stays and travel worldwide.

Additional benefits that matter to me are avoiding the $80 reservation fee each time I book a stay and receiving the annual 7 guest certificates, but those are secondary.

Even before purchasing the Trust Points yesterday, my account was showing Centum+ for some reason. I assume this is because I already have more than 100,000 HGVC points. However, I was not receiving any Centum+ benefits because all of my points were acquired resale.

My questions are:

  1. If I buy a resale Diamond/HVC property, would that give me access to all other Diamond/HVC properties? Also, if I buy a resale Bluegreen property, would that give me access to all Bluegreen properties? Would owning resale HGVC plus resale Diamond/HVC or Bluegreen make my dashboard HGV Max by default, or is a direct HGV purchase still required?
  2. For Centum+ owners who have actually used the Centum+ travel redemption feature, is the real-world value close to $0.40 per point?
  3. Are there restrictions, fees, limited inventory, blackout dates, or other catches that make this redemption value less attractive than it sounds during the sales presentation?
  4. If my primary goal is to access the Centum+ travel redemption benefit and maximize the value of my existing 114,000+ resale HGVC points, would you keep this purchase or rescind it?
  5. Is there a better or cheaper path to obtaining HGV Max and/or Centum+ than purchasing 8,000 Trust Points for approximately $15,900?
  6. If you were in my situation, would you:
    • Keep this purchase,
    • Rescind and pursue a different HGV Max/Centum+ strategy,
    • Rescind and purchase a different deed or Trust ownership,
    • Or pursue another approach entirely?
  7. Has anyone successfully obtained HGV Max and Centum+ through a different ownership structure that was more cost-effective than buying Trust Points directly from HGV?

I would really appreciate feedback from owners who have actually used the Centum+ travel redemption benefit and have experience with Centum+, HGV Max, and resale-to-Max conversions.

5. Is there a cheaper/better way to achieving MAX without spending 15,900 on EOY MAX and have an annual MF of $900?

I don’t believe there currently is. This seems to be about the best deal one can get. It is either about 15k for an EOY or 25k for an EY. Would they allow a week purchase at an HGVC like Elara to count rather than a DRI points purchase?

I have heard of cheaper entry into Max but they didn't come in as Centum and pull in their resale deeds. That definitely needed corporate approval and hope that it holds.

Are you talking about DRI deed or trust points? Resale trust points have restrictions on them. They can only be used in the collection that you own.

For DRI deeds, I am not sure but I would think that you would get access to DEX with them. When you have access to DEX, then you have access to all the properties.

There are some HGVC properties that have access to DEX also, like our Craig Lodges. We get access to all the Diamond, Embarc, and partner properties plus some but not sure about all BG. For HGVC owners who want access to those properties, this is the best way since we get a 2 year booking window into DRI and 11 months into Embarc. If you don't want to exchange, then you can either use the ownership or the points in HGVC.

You can look at The Club with HGV Max guide to explain the 0.40 point use. It came from them.

This would not be worth it to me. Trust points are hard to offload and I would want to deal with two different HGV systems. But, we only spent about $30k on our 100k+ HGVC resale points...so spending $16k for a EOY 8,000 points would be a no go plus we are Legacy Elite Premier so get, basically, all the same benefits.

There are very few DRI Deeded Properties still floating around. As I keep saying MAX is not worth acquiring for any reason. Resell acquired DRI/HVC Points can only be used to Book directly into their Home Collection. MAX is lost upon resell. So what you acquired for $15k is worth zero on the resell Market. But if it floats your Boat.

Buying resell anything does not get you MAX. Remember MAX IS NOT A TIMESHARE. It is a possibility of Booking into another System owned/managed by Hilton on a short fuse. It is all a shill/shell game.

The OP keeps mentioning access to Max and that is going to get a big, fat NO from almost everyone here including myself. If the OP wanted access to DRI properties, DEX would be preferred.
However, my understanding is the OPs primary target is achieving Centum+ status.

Below is my thread of how I was cheated out of Centum+ - I am very happy to see you were able to achieve this with resales. I thought it was mine for 6 months and then “THEY” took it away. My advancement via resales did not achieve your results. In the end, I upgraded my largest resale deed, and that took me over the 100k points for Centum+

As for Centum+ I do enjoy it’s privileges, I used one of them this past week to procure a weeks stay at The Crane in Barbados -

Could be a system glitch.. They have had some system glitches(see the multiple threads of folks being Maxed & De-Maxed, just like cinderella)...
- The sales system showed my "Ending Membership Tier" as Centum+.

Concerned as to where you will end esp with @h2oflyboy 's painful journey & fighting with HGV to get his promised Centum+ status (per his comment/thread shared)...

Many have given you excellent advice re HVC trust points.

May add if you want to avoid reservation fees, you may pickup a free bHC deed in DC/NYC for all-inclusive (AI) dues, so no fee for any reservations OR become legacy EP via CL purchase, as shared above

Best in your journey!

Your $, your choice :)!

I will put in the counter-argument that DEX is not always preferred for access to DRI. DEX is great for early availability at more difficult to book resorts. However DEX also has an exchange fee, is harder to cancel reservations than MAX, can only book 1 week at a time (although I don't know how well the shortstays work in points version of DEX). MAX will also give points promotions and free booking fees (those DEX fees get expensive).

If OP really wants MAX they should look into doing a MAX swap. They should get a cheap resale deed (or use one of their current deeds), pay a fee to HGVC, and swap it for another retail deed. The swap would slightly lower their HGVC points, but it would also get them enrolled in MAX with a retail deed.
If they allowed a swap to a cheaper MF property like Elara it might be worth it for the OP.

Thank you for the insight.

The reservation fee savings are definitely interesting as well.

If I wanted to pursue the free reservation route instead of the HGV Max/Centum+ route, which specific bHC deeds or properties should I be looking for in the resale market?

Also, would the all-inclusive (AI) dues benefit apply to all of my existing HGVC/HVC ownership and future reservations, or would it only apply to reservations made using the specific deed that I purchased?

For example, if I own 114,000+ HGVC points and later acquire one of these bHC deeds with AI dues, would that eliminate reservation fees across my entire account, or only for reservations associated with that particular ownership?

I’m trying to understand whether this is simply a cheaper way to eliminate reservation fees or whether it provides broader account-wide benefits.

Thank you.

When you mention becoming legacy EP via a CL purchase, can you clarify what “CL” refers to?

Are you referring to a specific Diamond Collection ownership?

If so, which Collection or deed should I be researching, and do the Elite Premier benefits actually transfer to a resale buyer today?

I’d love to learn more because this is the first time I’ve heard of that path.

It will apply to all HGVC and bHC reservations. I am not sure about any HVC reservations.

Craigendarroch Lodges. If you purchase from the onsite HGVC resale agent, it will count towards elite status.

However DEX also has an exchange fee, is harder to cancel reservations than MAX, can only book 1 week at a time
This is only for DEX EU and DEX US weeks. DEX US points and DEX Embarc can book any length of stay. They are points based, not deposit a week and exchange....for that week.

When you mention becoming legacy EP via a CL purchase, can you clarify what “CL” refers to?
GT75 answered it but wanted to add that it is a HGVC property, not HVC, https://www.craigendarroch.com/sales/

Many of us buy there for inexpensive points, elite qualifying so many are Legacy Elite because of purchases there, and can exchange in DEX EU and II....plus very inexpensive and quick closing

An EOY District 1BR (not 1BR Plus) would likely be the least expensive initial and long term deed to accomplish this with. I own one and it has saved me thousands in res fees and the free reservations apply to all the points in your account. You would have a separate bucket of bHC points in your account that work the same way as your other points, but do give you an earlier window in DC (and maybe a NY resort or two - can’t remember if that’s the case).

The only caveat on using that window is that you can only use the bHC points in that window. As far as I’m concerned, the only reason to look at a NYC bHC deed is if you were looking to go there frequently and needed the advance window.
