You know..

I started this thread asking about changes, both good and bad..I understand fee hikes are part of this ..How about actual specifics....My wyndham fees on a 2-bed,jumped about $250. since we bought back in 2008..

yet the Grand Mayan has only jumped 40 or so bucks in 8 years..:)

The old shell has remained almost stable in 12 years..

Bluegreen ,just made our red week blue.. and raised fees,to the point we said NO MORE bluegreen!

I think it might be nice to hear from some folks that owned the rash of bankrupt corporations, and how thier weeks suffered or gained???you know the crescent, cendent, celebrity, vavigo, island one, clubs..how about eagle crest, and worldmark troubles, or wndhams, butchery??vip status changes or loss of options in network to trade with...how about pic changes..this might cushion the blow,(knowing what to expect) if our timeshares end up in bankruprtcy..

I understand Disney Vacation Club ,sent out a press release,...Quote..DVC Cares greatly about all members, although, the majority of our members, just felt they should get MORE benefits ,when they purchase direct, through DVC,then those who purchased on the secondary market..The changes, aligns Disney, with other timeshare operations, who impose similar restrictions on resales..END QUOTE...

Lets talk about what Disney (a leader) has done, and was it fair..

Agree, seems to go round and round. Point is nothing in life is fair and if business thinks it can make $ then they will try to do it.

tough topics..

Yes these are tough to talk about..I never said ..come here for fun and good times...this is a thinking persons thread...It is what I think about. so as to position myself ahead of any changes...This industry IS evolving, like most,to survive..

Tia I disagree..There are a few things in life that ARE fair.more or less...the trick is..to find these things and make these things part of your life.

This thread...

Is about the GOOD ..THE BAD...AND THE UGLY...If you have good to share feel free to gloat...and yes yes,I know most here obtained their weeks for a song and enjoy the heck out of them..I want to hear about the other aspects of individual resorts..IE...If they have the best, kindest, most helpfull staff,or if thier landscaping is always perfect,or if thier pool needs fixing,or they offer great discounted tour tics..or thier location is a perfect location to do...whatever..

we can be optimisticly ,optimist if you want this thread to be ...fun..but it should also be informative..even if we do not like to hear some topics..

Sally, if you were a paying member instead of a freeloading guest, you could go to the reviews of any resort you are curious about and read what other paying members have to say about it.

No need to use bandwidth for rehashing what's available to those with a genuine interest.

This thread, like others you have started has (imo) run it's course.

well..

sorry you see it that way...

The course of whats happening now..today.. ,while we speak, can not be found in past threads...I did not want to limit the thread, but like YOU say..perhaps you would like me to ...as you put it...stay on the sidelines...

I believe paying members would like YOU to bring forth an original topic once in a while, instead of trying to drive away those that do....

Your cheap (FREE_LOADING GUEST) ...sally
thanks for THAT one too..jim

also..why has is magiclly run its course when tough topics come into the fray??
funny, bandwidth was not a concern, before, when I tried to condense my posts into shorter versions.

Yes and No.

Yes because both timeshares that I bought direct from Starwood were 'devalued' 10 days after signing. No because seven years later I have had great family vacations which is what I 'invested' for. Am in the process of buying additional units (resale) so one day these too will be devalued. Still happy even though MFs have risen, point values changed, etc. because my family's enjoyment is priceless. So it goes.

Jim is not talking about threads. He is talking about the TUG "Resort Reviews" which is separate from the TUG BBS and can only be accessed by TUG members. There is a lot of very good information there with ratings and reviews organized geographically.

Thanks for pointing that out, John. I should have indicated the TUG Resort Databases in the RED stripe near the top of this and every page. Sally13 may not have been aware of the reviews' location since she isn't able to access them.

The resort reviews are arguably the most valuable part of TUG membership... Jim

If TUG didn't want CHEAP nonpaying guests. They could easily eliminate them from posting or lurking. If some of you don't like us freeloading cheapies. Tough ****. You can ignore us. But I guess that is the way Sally feels about resale buyers.

Relax, nobody said that quests aren't welcome. We just said, as a member, you would be able to access the TUG database of resort reviews and ratings. As pointed out, that is probably the most valuable thing about TUG.

e.bram, CHEAP is your description. There are many contributors who have chosen for whatever reason to not be a paying member. Perhaps they don't exchange, and therefore reviews have no value to them. They already own what timeshares they want and have no interest in renting excess weeks or listing what they own for sale on TUG.

That's their business. They still contribute to discussions and as such are welcome.

When guests start asking for reviews- and posting their rentals/and rentals wanted, it gets into the members area. $15 is not such an onerous fee for access to this database.

When I am contemplating a resort to exchange into, the TUG databases are one (of many) sources of information on which I make my decision.

Try it, you'll like it... Jim

Resorts Owned
WKORV, WKV, SDO, 4-Kauai Beach Villas, Island Park Village (Yellowstone), Hyatt High Sierra, Dolphin's Cove (Anaheim) NEW: 2 Lawa'i Beach Resort!
Yes - the member's only Reviews, and Sightings and Distress forum, plus the 25 free Marketplace Ads you get with membership are worth far more than $15! Consider the fact that Redweek charges $24.99 for ONE Ad and you get 25 - for free, with membership on TUG!

I am always surprised when people don't join when it's only $15! But of course, since they can't see it, they have no idea of the wealth of info. they are missing out on!

Paying dues...

I chose to pay to be a member before even buying a ts. Let's face it, usd 15 is the price of 2 coffee and 1 bottles of water hardly gonna break the bank...

Jim is not a problem for me,as there will always be his type..(HE SHOOTS HIMSElF)...no wiggling out of that one JIM...:D

I am well aware of what tug offers, and will avail if needed..I do not think tug is in a cash crunch...

my posting inquiry's,are to generate debate and thought on THIS thread..with up to date info, and with present folks..

With that said..I believe Sail27bill's post NAILS IT!!...It is about shared times, and friendships made..kuddos to you!!:)

sally i hardly follow this but i have wondered why you don't join. i think the guest invitation is for one or two time posters and after that, since you are participating, it is only polite to join. strange user name too since i'm pretty sure you're male. my name is my name and i would love to meet up with fellow tuggers to have face to face conversations. i will not write something here i could not say in a live conversation. and i am female.

I'm no calling you a free loader

What I do believe though is that 15 bucks not exactly a kings randsom. I like tge fact that there are enough paying members for us nit to live in banner land.

It is easy. Sally would not join a club with members rudely others.
Me? I would not join a club that would have me as a member.

Rather than putting thoughts/words in anyone's mind, I will just go with sally13 probably not knowing that all the information she says she seeks is already available. There is no need to 'reinvent the wheel' and assemble a database of hundreds and hundreds of individual resorts, as it's already been done.

For those (Guests) who don't have access to the reviews, there is a scoring- represented here:

10 World class resort with everything included. Should be the best resort you have ever seen! Most are self-contained vacation destinations. Everything is in perfect order. There should be very few ratings of "10" given.
9 A great resort with everything except a major extra (e.g., golf or skiing being off-site). Beautiful units with fabulous decor. This should be among the 2nd to 4th best resorts you have seen.
8 A good resort with a great location. Still has top quality units and furnishing with on site recreation and activity director. An excellent exchange.
7 Above average resort but missing some extras and charges for the extras they do provide (e.g., tennis, bikes). Units might be a little smaller, not quite as plush but still very nice.
6 This resort is nice but just one step above average. Has planned activities, but units may be older. Does not have many activities or full time director. An ok exchange, but wish it were better.
5 Average resort. Nothing special but OK. Would not go there again.
4 Below average.
3 Below average.
2 Awful. Avoid if possible. Has old furniture, poor service, no extras, poor location, would not trade into again.
1 Awful. Avoid if possible. Has old furniture, poor service, no extras, poor location, would not trade into again.

Also reviewers are encouraged to rate the check-in process and helpfulness of staff.

Distressed/Sightings- also exclusive to members- show various (mostly desirable) resorts and exchanges and what deposit it took to see it as an available exchange. Very handy for those looking for a good vacation, but not with a specific ongoing search in the works.

Not to engage in any further name calling, but just as explanation of what one gets for the modest membership fee.

I have been called cheap, cheapskate, tightwad, thrifty. I have been accused of having fish hooks in my pockets or being the slowest one on the block to get out my wallet. All badges of honor.

That said, TUG membership has saved me thousand$ of dollar$, and has been among the best travel investments I've made.

You need a few more million in the bank, then they call you eccentric!

What would I do with a few more millions? Oh, probably just spend it on timeshares until it's all gone, then my heirs can pay some PCC to get rid of them.... Jim

Love it

My point is that when people perceive you as wealthy, the words they use to describe you change.
