Yes, we love the Pono Kai and Kapaa has changed over the years. Definitely more Mexican Restaurants. The Olympic has been the mainstay over the years.

We were last there in 2022. What building are you in? I Love the B building while my wife loves the F building. So we usually stay in F. :D

Sushi Bushido used to be in town but they moved out to the Coconut Marketplace. Sam's Oceanview just closed. I haven't heard if anything is going in there.

Tiki Tacos is one of our favorites but more for lunch but we love their homemade Tamales on Saturdays but they usually sell out.

Kountry Kitchen is our favorite for breakfast since Ono Family Restaurant closed but the wait can be long.

Hopefully you guys won't get hit with the storms that are supposed to come through. 🤙🏻
We are in building E but we met people in Builidng F and had drinks on their Lanai overlooking the Ocean.

We eat all of our breakfasts and lunches either in our unit or bring something to eat when we are away durning lunchtime. The Olympic doesn't do dinner. Neither does the Hawaiian Food in town place so we brought some back so Kaliua Pig for dinner tonight.

My husband bought fresh fish a couple of times from the fish place in town and broiled it at back at the unit.

We ate out at a Mariachi's a couple of times. The sauce for the Diablo Shrimp Dish was fantastic.

We ate at Paco's one night since it was the closest to the resort and the weather was threatening for our walk.

Last Saturday night there was a street fest so we had some Indian Food on the street.

Last Friday night we went to Hanepepe for Art Night and had Kalua Pig.

Yep, first Saturday of the month is the. Streetfest. We haven't been going annually since we moved so Olympic not doing dinner is new to us.

We liked Ono Family Restaurant more than Paco's Tacos but we thought Paco's was good.

Kapaa has changed alot since started going there but it still feels like home.🤙🏻

Enjoy the rest of your stay. We may hit Maui next year too. I'll have to see what year our Maui Schooner week lands. We have an every other year week.

Aloha

We liked Paco's but Mariachi's was better. Better Diablo sauce for the Shrimp Dish.

We brought back Kalua Pig at Pono's to the resort and that was very good.

On Saturday Night in Kapaa we went to Paniola's for Dinner and a Jazz/Blues Type Band. Very Nice Barbeque Pork, Beans and Rice Dinner. The Music was very entertaining.

Yes, Paniolo has been there for years and it's a nice little music venue. The last time we were on Kauai, we had to do take out because Kim wasn't getting around good.

Aloha Friday!

We stay in Kauai each year, and often another island. It's so hard to choice when we love all of them. Next winter we'll stay in Waikiki. It already has me thinking of Duke's breakfast buffet, great food and great view. :whooopie:

The last time we were on Oahu (2013) we stayed a week at Ko Olina. I had exchanged into a 1 BR but ePlussed into a 2 BR at the last minute. Our initial impression was mixed but the place grew on us.

Wow, it is certainly worth going back now that she can enjoy walking into and around town as well as that great walk/bike path by the Ocean which we enjoyed each morning before it got too hot.

Our plans were always to vacation on the different islands when we moved here. Even with her limited mobility, we made vacation trips. In my first year of retirement, we went to Kauai and last year we went to Maui, Lanai and Big Island. We also extended a medical visit for some time on Oahu. It was a busy year and we felt a little too much. We will try to keep it to one or two trips at the most.

We are ready for a return to Kauai. While her mobility is much much better, it is still limited. She does fine with walks as long as there are places to rest along the way and it's great because Kauai has plenty of that.

We love some time on the beach or lanai and visiting some of our old favorite places. Then of course checking out some new spots.

After next year, we may vacation more in the winter like we used to before we lived here. It's more crowded here on Molokai during that time and that way we are here when it's nice and quiet during the summer.

Surprisingly, we have followed our plan that we had before we moved here. Five years before our first visit back to the mainland(that will be next month) and some inter-island trips during that time. Now we have to decide when our next mainland trip will be. We're thinking another five years maybe but we'll see.

Our plan was to spend the winters in the warm weather when we retired. We didn't care where. We started off with loving Miami South Beach. Then we found Waikiki which is where we now live. We have been to all six of the islands that we can go to and love them all and will continue to visit all of them. We both have the same desire to spend the rest of our lives in Hawaii even though in totally different types of locations. We both have very little desire to return to the continental US.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! May is half over and flying by. It's been pretty wet here with a Kona Low going through but we have been lucky on our golf days.

This week's picture takes us back to Kauai. Anyone who has been there knows the unmistakable views of the Kalalea Mountain range also known as Kong. Of all the beautiful sites on Kauai, Kong is one of my favorites.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

Aloha Friday!

If you're only going to take one helicopter ride in your life, do it in Kauai. Be brave, and pick a helicopter with no doors. There's no experience like it. The only other helicopter ride we've taken together was to land on a glacier in Alaska. That was amazing, but can't compare with flying over the Na Pali Coast.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! It's Memorial Day weekend so many will enjoy a three day weekend. We're getting close to our Mainland trip so we are cleaning the condo this weekend.

This week's picture takes us back to Kauai and the small town of Kapaa. It's the awesome view from Sam's Oceanview Restauant. Sam's recently closed so hopefully a nice new place will be coming in.🤙🏻

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Holiday Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

We had a very eventful trip in 2011. We were in Waikiki when the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. We stayed up until 4 AM waiting to see if there was going to be any damage in Waikiki. There wasn't anything serious. Then we went to Kauai and hiked the Kalalau Trail. On the way back from the hike we stopped by Sam's for a late lunch, except back then it was Scotty's BBQ. Here's a picture of my brother and his friend. The view was awesome and so was the food. We hope it's not long before a new owner reopens the place and serves food as good as the view.

Happy Aloha Friday from the first coast! DW and I will be making our weekly trip to the beach this morning. It is a gorgeous day here and it should be a very nice start to the Memorial Day weekend!

The photo below is what I saw when I walked into our sunroom a few days ago.

We remember Scotty's well. Hopefully, the new proprietors will continue the tradition of a good food and service at that location. 🤙🏻

Happy Aloha Friday! We are back in Northern CA where the garden is in full-swing, along with a few aphids and Cabbage Loopers, (aka Inch Worms) which I'm dealing with organically. The strawberry tower has a few tiny strawberries on it:

View attachment 93413

Upon returning from Hyatt High Sierra, I also found a bunch of Devil's Horn mushrooms growing in one of my raised beds - the spores must have come in with the mulch. They look like alien eggs hatching! Creepy!

Here is a picture from Wikipedia of a fully intact specimen - it's Latin name is "Phallus Rubicundus."

It's looking great. I just got done watering mine for today. I have a few Cherry Tomatoes now and everything is doing well so far.🤙🏻
