Happy Aloha Friday

Aloha Friday!

Deck's aren't easy. Our old deck was starting to fall apart so we hired a guy to replace it with a slightly larger one. It took him several weeks to tear down the old and build the new one, mostly working by himself. Of course, the building code has changed, so the requirements are stricter. This one is very solid and maintenance free. I'm getting to old to move everything off then on again to stain it. We love the new one.

That looks really nice. It kind of looks like Trex or Timber Tech decking. I thought about using Trex but went with 2x8's similar to the originals so I could just change out the deck boards one by one. Originally, I used a solid white stain on the deck which lasted about 10 years, then a wash and solid white again for 10 years and then the solid blue grey stain for 10 years. I think we are going to go with a regular semi-transparent stain this time. If we don't like it we can go always go back to solid.

It is Trex. It replaced a 30 year old cedar deck. I used Sikkens semi-transparent stain on the old deck. This is what it looked like after 20 years.

Unfortunately, I'd have to stain the floor boards every year or two to keep them looking good. With Trex, I just have to hose it down. :whooopie:

I love decks but hate the maintenance. If we would have stayed in Wisconsin in our old house I would have put in Trex. The decks take alot of abuse with sun, cold, rain and snow. I always had to shovel mine so all that scraping doesn't help a finish either.

Great choice.🤙🏻

That cedar deck picture looks pretty good, imo. I used Eastern Washington Douglas Fir on the first deck because the growth rings are tighter. Most of the boards I pulled off are in decent shape and still have about 15 ft of usable surface. These new boards are Premium Grade Doug Fir with a tight growth ring from a mill in Northern Idaho. Thirty years ago I wanted privacy and protection on the deck so we have deck walls. I had thought about going with the wire for a better view but again decided on privacy and protection mostly because it is less work at this time, lol.

Our backyard neighbors are trees, and we don't care if the squirrels are watching us. The cables give us a better view of the critter antics. 😁

Happy Aloha Friday!!! It's the first day of Summer and a travel day for us. Our first trip back to the mainland comes to a close and we are on our way back home. We had an awesome trip and had a great time visiting with Family and Friends!!❤️

Aloha until next time. So this week's picture takes us back to Molokai and our lanai at Home at WaveCrest.

Happy Aloha Friday!

When we stay in South Maui, we like renting a condo at Ekahi Village. Walking through the grounds there is like walking through a botanical garden.

BTW, the white flower that's sticking up in the middle is a 20' agave flower spike. Ekahi Village is also in front of Keawakapu Beach, my favorite beach in Hawaii. The sand is golden, the slope is gentle, no rocks in the middle, but the rocks at each end make it good for snorkeling. The surf is gentle enough in the morning for swimming laps, and often high enough in the afternoon for boogie boarding.

Happy birthday from the First Coast!

Happy Aloha Friday!!! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. Summer is in full swing now. It was nice to get a little rain over the 4th.🤙🏻

This week's picture takes us over to Oahu in Waikiki with a nice view of the Pink Palace. The Pink Palace is the Royal Hawaiian Resort. It opened in 1927 and cost $4 million to build. I took this picture four years ago during the 4th of July weekend.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend !!!!!🤙🏻🌺🌴😎

In Coastal Virginia it is only 98 degrees but it feels liked a steamy 110 degrees.
It is Hot and Humid.
We're in our normal summer pattern, 81 right now with a high of 86 today. Perfect with the nice trade winds blowing through our condo.🤙🏻

Happy Aloha Friday from Sisters Oregon. The sisters names are Hope, Faith and Charity.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! So far the Summer has been a little cooler just like Winter and Spring. The trade winds have been comfortable along with our light rains in the morning. 🤙🏻

This week's picture keeps us in Molokai and only takes us 3 miles from home. Saint Damien's Catholic Church sits just off the road in Kamalo. The church was built in 1876 and still welcomes visitors to this day.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

Happy Aloha Friday!

MN is due for some hot humid weather the next week. We don't like it but the hibiscus loves it.
