and here is Mt Figueroa in the spring, maybe 70% of the way up the backside, aka The Wild Side. We did not see Lou Reed that day, but did pass M Jackson's Neverland Ranch on the way back to town. I blew right by it on my bike, thinking "Why is there a crowd of people here in the middle of nowhere?" I had been told it would be there, but near the end of a 60 mile bike ride over a mountain, some things slip the mind.
(have to degrade that pic to get it to load I think)

Happy Aloha Friday!!!! It's the last Friday in July and August starts next week. The summer is flying by.

This week's picture takes us back to Kauai and Hanapepe to the famous Swinging Bridge that crosses the Hanapepe River. The Bridge was built in 1911 and built by Plantation workers to provide access to the town from the near by fields. It was also restored after Hurricane Iniki in 1992.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!🤙🏻🌺🌴😎

Aloha Friday!

Many visitors to Kauai's south shore stop by Spouting Horn. We usually go in the winter and we've always seen it spouting. Not many know that you can get a completely different view of it from the Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor. Here's a picture I took from the end of the pier. In the upper right corner you can see some visitors watching it from Spouting Horn Park.

Happy Aloha Friday.

It finally cooled down enough to finish the top of the decks. In another week I should have the bottom stained and the deck project is over.

Happy Aloha Friday. Here are 2 pictures from when we lived on base a few years ago...apologies for the one with the "obstructed view" :)
Great life indeed.

just realized I have a bunch of old HI stuff hanging round, well, not THAT old. here is one that art's pic reminded me of. small one that looks like a whale to me (and to others). I think I know where this is, but it is hard to reach, esp if you get there the way I get there, so I saw it almost 20 yrs ago.

Hi all. Headed to Waiohai Beach Club in September and can't wait! Went last year and loved it. Funny thing is we asked 3-4 groups to come take the other room and all have said no so far. I personally could never turn down that offer if it was given to me so it blows my mind people would turn down a $500/night free room.

Aloha Friday!

Hawaii isn't for everyone. There can be many reasons too, timing, expense, fear of flying and just not interested but you'll still have a Great time.🤙🏻

West Maui Cycles rented those for an amazing price on a 10 day rental. Fire must have eliminated WMC but I heard they may be renting at OGG?

Happy Aloha Friday!!! Welcome to August. The summer keeps flying along. We have been enjoying some really nice weather this summer. 🤙🏻

This week's picture takes us to the west side of Molokai, where I took this picture of an Axis deer. There are over 60,000 Axis deer on Molokai and when you see one, you are sure to see many more around. Eight Axis deer were a gift to King Kamehameha V in 1868 from Hong Kong.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌺🌴😎

Happy Aloha Friday. It's going to hot today so we are heading out to play in the river and watch the sky tonight. They reported it could be 109 today so it will be at least in the mid 80's in the mountains. The pic is South Point at the jump on Big Island.

Aloha Friday!

St. Paul's Suni Lee was the 2020 Olympic all-around champion and uneven bars bronze medalist. This year she overcame some serious kidney problems to get a gold for the team competition and a bronze in the all-around. St. Paul honored her with a bust on the shore of Lake Phalen.

hate to say it I guess. Will be mid-70s here and sunny, just as it was 8 of the last 10 days and most likley will be 8 of the next 10 days (and the 10 days beyond that? maybe high-70s) Volatility? Will the sun break thru the marine-layer as early as 9 am or as late as noon? Are you standing in the shade or the sun?

when I wrote that pic of my bike was "a few miles from the blowhole", I was thinking it was closer ... it just seems like miles b/c there is a nasty hill there that wraps around both sides of a gorgeous bay. I checked. < 1 mile from blowhole to that bike & here is the bay: Honokohau. The bike pic is about 100 yds west of the bay. GO another 100 yds and it is Honokohau Lookout, a tiny parking spot. As slip undoubtedly figured out (since that bike had Molokai in the background), this is just east of the extreme NW corner of Maui. So, go back 100 yds east of that bike photo and you see the bay before teh road plunges down

see that road going uphill on the other side of the bay? That is famous for cycling on Maui. Known as "The Wall", which interestingly is also the name used in CA for a few roads with the same characteristics: a constant gradient of thigh shaking steepness. It is just a straight line til you get almost to the top.
and coming down it goes into a 90 deg turn. Fun times
