Hey Jeff-

Can I see "The Southern Cross" from here? I'm not even an astronomy amateur status. I just love the CS&N song. ( hence I used it in my St. John power point slide show I made.
. Skip to 4 min for the song ) There is one mistake in my video, but I haven't fixed it & unless you're familiar with St John, you won't notice.

Yes, you sure can. I suggest downloading the free app Stellarium. It's easy to see once you know what you are looking for but it can be tough the first time, especially if it is clear and there are a lot of stars.

If anyone purchases a Planisphere like Art shows, make sure you get one for your area. Mine in Hawaii is for 20 to 30 degrees. I am at 22 degrees here on Molokai. shaka

Happy Aloha Friday!!! December is flying along and before you know it, Christmas will be here.

This week's picture keeps us on Molokai in Kaunakakai at Hiro's Ohana Grill. We decided we are going to Hiro's for our Christmas Eve Dinner so we are just waiting for their ad to post so we can make our reservation. This was our view from our table there last year.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!! shaka

Mele Kalikimaka!! The holidays with Family is the best. We haven't had that in years. In June we head back to the mainland for the first time in five years. shaka

We ate breakfast at the Gazebo, was looking over at Molokai wondering which end you are on...shaka
We drove the west end of Maui today to the point where it becomes scary... then turned around.

From the Gazebo, you were looking right at us. The red pin is the Gazebo and Home, of course, is where we live. BTW, we love the Gazebo.

Yes, that road can get pretty hairy. I don't blame you for turning around. If you get board, Molokai is 20 minutes away. :D :ROFLMAO:

Happy Aloha Friday! There's many festivals and parades in Waikiki. Here are some colorful pictures from the 18th Annual Honolulu Festival in 2012. The festival promotes ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim region. Performers from various countries and regions such as Japan, Australia, Tahiti, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Hawaii and the mainland United States get together and give dance performances and traditional art demonstrations.

Happy Aloha Friday!!!! Christmas is upon us and We Wish Everyone a Very Merry Christmas!!!

This week's picture takes us to the East side of Kauai to The Coconut Marketplace. The Coconut Marketplace has gone through some changes over the last few years. We always like to go when there is a small Hula show there. There's even a few restaurants in there now. It's always worth a stop.

Enjoy, have an Awesome Aloha Friday, a Great Weekend and a Very Mele Kalikimaka!!!! shaka

Happy Aloha Friday!

This is what our house looked like a year ago.

Today in Minnesota, it's cloudy, gloomy, and brown. Around the winter solstice each year, we're thinking about leaving for Kauai. To help get us through the next month, we like watching a movie filmed in Kauai, Six Days Seven Nights. It's funny, and the scenery is awesome.

This was just posted on Facebook from a friend in Wisconsin. You just never know but January and February are in deck.

We visited the Coconut marketplace 40 years ago (Dec. '83) for the first time when we stayed at Coco Palms, then at the Sheraton. It was a booming spot then with nice shops, good restaurants, and Santa in his shorts. Our last visit there was in January 2020 and so many of the buildings were empty. Then COVID hit and it is probably a ghost town now. 😥

There have been a few new additions since 2020. Hopefully that trend will continue.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! It's the last Aloha Friday of 2023 and time to ring in 2024.

This week's picture takes us back to Oahu and our old apartment at Aloha Lanai. I heard they are supposed to be cracking down on Illegal Fireworks this year but we'll see. While we lived on Oahu, every New years had huge amounts of fireworks all over the island. This was one picture I took of some that were set off by the Ala Wai Canal. We were on the 26th floor when I took this picture.

Have and Awesome Aloha Friday, a Great Weekend and a Happy and Healthy 2024!!

Happy Aloha Friday!

You won't see any tall buildings in Kauai because it's illegal for any building to be taller than a palm tree (50'). The way around the rule is to build on the side of a hill like they did for this building.

I climbed to the top of the stairwell one year to get this picture of Poipu Beach Park and to prove that the building isn't taller than a palm tree.
