Happy Aloha Friday!

Winter has finally arrived in the midwest. Snow starting tonight, and sub-zero highs expected Sunday and Monday. We need some winter here to help appreciate how nice Hawaii weather will feel when we get there. 🥶

The cold has hit the PNW. I'm kinda cold in Hawaii too. I'm wearing long sleeves and jeans today but I can't see my breath so all is good enough. Some one will probably shafaka me for saying that, lol. Happy Aloha Friday.

Twins Cities shouldn't get much snow, but will get some nasty wind chills. Fortunately, we don't have to go anywhere anytime soon, and we have wood for the fireplace. Tonight we'll probably watch our favorite travel video.

It's a VHS tape, released in 1986. I was able to digitize it and make a DVD out of it. It has beautiful video, music, and narration. It's certainly out of date because many of the places to visit aren't there anymore. The black sand beach south of Hilo was overrun by lava, Waimea Falls Park used to feature cliff divers, Kodak used to have a Waikiki Hula Show, and sadly, Lahaina used to be a popular destination. We watch the video every year shortly before we go.

My brother just said they have 6 inches and are expecting 6 more, plus it's really windy and it's going to get really cold.

My wife is still always cold. She has the lanai door closed and has a sweater and a blanket on right now. It is down to 73 in the condo today.:D

If you start to see your breath in Hawaii just come down from the mountains and you be fine.shaka

It didn't really warm up today. Even so, back home was minus 23 when counting the wind chill. We are happy and warm enough here.

We’re north of Houston, and now they’re forecasting freezing rain in addition to lows in the 20s (fortunately rising above freezing in the daytime). I’m really glad that our son will be off and won’t have to commute to and from work on icy roadways with other drivers who have no idea how to drive on them!

A minus 23 degrees is cold.
I cannot LOL. That is cold.
We were down to 61 degrees here last night. That's the coldest we've seen since we moved hear. We closed all the windows last night. Only up to 75 degrees today.

Luckily, it back to 81 tomorrow. shaka

The blizzard just missed us. We got less than 2" of snow, but at 2 PM the wind chill is -17. After shoveling the driveway, I needed some of my favorite warming fluid, Dow's Ruby Port. 🍷

Happy Aloha Friday!!! We finally seem to be out of the rainy storms for a while. The forcast is showing some nice sunshine for the weekend and temps back into the 80's.

This week's picture takes us back to Kauai and on a lanai at the Pono Kai. Kauai Beer Company in Lihue has a nice variety of craft beers that make it worth the trip the next time you are on Kauai. They have some good food there too. 🤙🏻

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great weekend!!!🤙🏻🌺🌴😎

Happy Aloha Friday!

Years ago, five of us had landed in Kona, rented a large SUV, and were headed to the Royal Kona Resort. Just as we were approaching the lobby entrance, our son who is normally rather quiet, said with great authority "Dad, stop the car! NOW!". I complied. Then he said "There's a spider in the car!'. Of course, immediately everyone jumped out. Fortunately, when we opened the tailgate, the spider, who must have been as startled as we were, jumped out of the car and scurried into the bushes. If everyone had not seen it run off into the bushes, I never would have been able to get them back into the car.

I found out it was a cane spider, which can get rather large. BTW, this is not my hand and not my picture.

The Commander-in-Chief and I would like to visit against The Land of Paradise either in October or the first two (2) weeks in December 2024. We need to stay two (2) consecutive weeks in a (2) bedroom villa.
One week maybe would be taking The Pride of America cruise ship around the various islands.
The second week would be totally R&R on one of the Island.
Which would be the best time to visit Hawaii.
We need to avoid heavy crowds.
Mahalo.

Mahalo.
I think you'll find crowds anytime of year, but your choice of an island to visit will certainly affect how big the crowds are. Honolulu and Waikiki have the largest crowds by far. Maui can get crowded in the resort areas. The east coast of Kauai is also congested. It's much harder to find crowds on the Big Island, because... well, it's big. As Slip will probably tell you, you can't find a crowd anywhere on Molokai.

As far as the best time to visit, we avoid December and January because those are the most likely months to get rain. If you want sun, the best places to stay are on the southwest side of mountain ranges. The moist trade winds from the NE get pushed up into the cool air of the mountains, and the air is drier and sunnier by the time it gets to the SW. Here are some good weather charts and maps for each of the islands.
