Four today ...
After guess 1, my first inclination was to use STRAP at guess 2. But then I reconsidered I should try for another vowel, and went with GROAN instead., only to return to STRAP at guess 3. That lead directly to CARAT. If I had used STRAP at guess 2, there's a good chance I would have used CARAT at guess 3.

I got a three even though I made an error with my second word.
After not using it for a while, I opened with HEART this morning, influenced by @dsmrp‘s reference to AORTA yesterday. Found the ending T plus an A and R. I was so pleased with CRAFT that I didn’t realize it left the A in the same position. Duh! However, it did get the C correct and left the middle position as the only option for the R. So, I was left with CxRAT or CARxT. Either way, it had to be CARAT.

4 for me. @T_R_Oglodyte and I had similar 3rd word guesses, except I went for the other consonant ending.

I had used the answer as a guess in a previous puzzle and was far off. So I didn't go out on the limb this time for my 3rd guess. I went for more common consonants instead.

An uneventful 5 today.

I'm in with the not so proud crowd.
Felt I should have had it sooner and faster, but my brain would not comply.

Quick three today

After guess 1, the big question for me was where to put the I; it almost surely had to be in either position 1 or position 3. For guess 2, I decided to try for position 1, and selected INSET. In set didn't work, but it confirmed that the I was in position 3. Which also mean that T has to be in position 1 or 2. So THIEF looked like a good guess.

I thought it was FRIday, but it must be TRIday with all these threes.
I actually started out with a variation of two, using TWICE as my starter. Got the T and I correct, plus an E. Keeping with the TRI theme, I tried TRIED next which only confirmed the E in fourth position. The only word left, I think, was THIEF. A fairly quick and easy tres.

I'm with the 3 crowd too!

I first thought of the answer for my 2nd guess. But doing diligence to put the E in first position, I came up with EDICT, which I thought was a more unusual word.. Sigh...

Change of topic. Has anyone else tried the new NYTimes game that is currently being beta tested, Digits?

While the goal of the game it clear, it took me a while to understand how you enter your entries. I found the instructions obscure. My other comment is that they have it set up where you are suppose to play six rounds on a given day. Each round gets harder and harder. I would just as soon drop off after a round or two (which you can do, but then your scores are not retained.)

I have two links below. The first is an article on how they developed the game, the second is to the game itself.

For me, personally, I love word games and hate number games. Or, I’m just not good at math and don’t like puzzles I can’t solve. I’ll stick with the word games but that does look like a pretty good game for those so inclined.

Could have been better but ended with a 5.
