Save a seat for me at the table.
I thought I had a chance at a 2, but as @DaveNV says WORDLE chose the wrong word again :D

I first thought of locus, tho' not quite sure it was a word. FOCUS seemed the most obvious choice. When I looked up LOCUS and then saw 'loci' as the plural, it nailed it for me. I remember hearing loci many times in biology/genetics type classes.

A normal old four for me. I’m impressed with @clifffaith and @T_R_Oglodyte threes. Strange word. Fortunately, I didn’t give it much thought before trying it.
I was watching my cats FIGHT, actually play, but FIGHT suited my purpose better. At least, I thought it did. PARSE only uncovered an out of position S. By now, I have a SCOWL on my face. Very useful, as it turns out. That added C, O & L to the mix. For some reason, I thought LOCUS was a word and I tried it. It worked. After reading @Sandi Bo post above, I also googled it. I’m with her. Never used it. Probably never heard it.

A three. Thought that I had it in two with a much more common word but when it failed that only left me with the correct answer. (My bet is that this was not one of the original 2000 available words.)

LOCUS - really Wordle?
I just asked my daughter who's bachelor's degree is a double major in mathematics and bio-chem. She said she has never heard of the word. When I explained what it was, she said - oh, well, I've probably heard it but don't remember it. And I would never guess it in Wordle.
Where do I file a formal complaint with the Wordle gods?

LOCUS has non-technical uses as well. It can mean a center of power or activity.

Four. it was the only logical use of the five letters I had at three. I wasn't even sure it was a word, but gave it a shot. Oh well! :D

I actually remembered it as a word from secondary school.

Five. I would have been mad if it was my last choice, a type of grass (using S).
Look at us expanding our vocabulary. :ROFLMAO:

We could be like Toastmasters and see how many times in a day we can use the Wordle word of the day - you know, make Wordle the LOCUS of control for our day? (Did I do that right)?

Maybe it should be the word of the next day so we don't spoil things for anybody?

A surprising 3 today!
I was just hunting for consonants on my 3rd guess, after r/o the vowels. Just pure luck.

There had to be another or maybe even 2 more Es. I couldn't think of a word with T, so went with the L, as it's one of the 5 most.common consonant in WoF gameshow. Ledge just popped up in my mind, so I went with it.

Lucky to get a four after having a brain fart with my third guess.
It seems my wife has some gardening to do today so I started with PLANT. A lone L out of position. Speaking of my wife, I decided to try LOVER with my second word and it was helpful, getting the L in correct position and uncovering an E. I was trying to think of other vowels to pair with the E when LUCKY popped into my head and I promptly forgot all about the E. So, I took a deep breath, counted to ten and stepped down from the LEDGE.

Four today

I almost used HEDGE as my second guess, but then I decided to hunt for more vowels instead. After guess 2 missed with added vowels, but landed an E in position2, then I used HEDGE. If had followed my first inclination and used HEDGE in guess 2, I would have solved in three.
