Four. I thought of the right answer at three, but thought Wordle would pop in my choice on a whim. They got me.

Five. Thought I had it on four but…
I started out with SCRAP and only found an A. I moved the A with THANK and got it positioned correctly but nothing else. I tried BLADE next, thinking there might be an L in 2nd position and checking for an ending E. Got the L. I thought the first letter had to be F or G so I was concentrating on that and all of a sudden, I saw that LLAMA worked and thought it was a perfect wordle. It is, it just wasn’t today. The second L did help me find the answer so I could stop FLAILing around.

Four today, Got it narrowed down, then just had to find the right word.

After guess 2 I had it narrowed down to FLAIR, FLAIL, PLAID, PLAIT. So I just picked a word - PLAID. If PLAID was wrong but the P was correct than it would be PLAIT. If the P was wrong, then it would have to FLAIR or FLAIL. Either way, I would do no worse than five.

Another four day. Took me awhile because I tend to forget some letters can be repeated. Once I figured it out, I was like, "Well, duh!" :D

After guess 2 my word list was STAGE, STARE, STAKE, STAVE, STATE. Too many to do them one-by-one, and if I did the mounting anxiety as I got closer would give the Wordle gods the frustration they thrive. So, time for an elimination word. I couldn't come up with a word that eliminated more than three, but I came up with GRAVE, which would catch three possibilities. If missed totally with GRAVE, I would still have two possibilities with two guesses.

As luck would have it, GRAVE gave me a hit on the G, so the answer was STAGE.

3 for me today
As much as I hate to, I used a burner. I was tempted to go for 2 with STAGE, since we just DANCEd. However with so many possibilities, I used the burner. Thinking STAGE, STAKE, STALE, STAVE. And I hadn't thought of STATE (seeing T_R_Oglodyte's solution). So glad I went the safe route with the burner.
No guts, no glory, ending with a safe 3.

Four. Like Patri, I was on the right track early. I was lucky enough to guess right for the fourth letter, the one that gave Patri trouble.

Three! Either I outsmarted the gods (doubtful), or they threw me a bone today. Either way, I’ll take it.
I’m going to the BEACH today! I love living here. Anyway, BEACH got me the middle position A and an E needing a home. The E had to be the first or last letter. I opted to move it and try finding it’s position instead of banking those two letters and searching for five new ones. I also didn’t want to waste a search for another vowel since it was unlikely there would be a third one. I chose STALE which has some common consonants and it was a good decision. I was left with STAxE. I came up with STAGE, STAKE and STARE. I missed STAVE as TR pointed out. I probably would have used an elimination word but the only one I could think of was KEGGER :D and that’s too many letters. So, I prioritized and got ready for a five. STAGE was my first try, and, fortunately, the only one necessary.

After guess 2, I narrowed the options to PEACH, READY, BEACH, HEADY, HEAVY. Of those words, HEADY looked like the best guess, The worst case would be that HEADY gives a yellow H and misses on the D and Y; and that would leave just PEACH and BEACH. Any other outcome on HEADY will eliminate all but one word.
