Anyone playing wordle?

SIX yesterday, but back to 4 today!

Five today.

I felt pretty good as the greens rolled over on CHART. But, dang it, I missed the last letter. Well, that's OK, because in this case the fourth time would be a CHARM. But it wasn't. So I looked at the remaining letters to see what I missed. And there it was - CHARD.

CHARD brings back unpleasant memories of my mother cooking Swiss chard. She fixed it the same way that she fixed spinach - she would boil it in water till any semblance of good flavor had been cooked away, and all that was left was this horribly bitter tasting blob of ugly, limp, stringy, green leavish things on the serving platter. Beyond any belief by my siblings and me, she and my father actually enjoyed that glop.

In our house you had to eat every bit of what was on the plate in front of you, and skipping the vegetable was not an option. And if I didn't take "enough for a growing boy" she or my father would be sure to add more to my plate. It wasn't a good idea to let that happen, because then I would wind up with more awfulness on my plate than what I could get away with if I served myself. So there was this strategy of trying to take as little as possible without triggering one of them adding more to my plate.

It wasn't until I was well into adulthood before I learned that chard and spinach were OK as salad greens. I still don't care for them that much, but they are edible raw. Or maybe very lightly cooked. DD makes a quite nice spinach frittata, and I imagine chard could be a good substitute.

But the childhood memories remain. I should have known better than to be flippant with the Wordle gods.

A lucky fast 4 today.

An odd word blossoms into a green and leafy 4. I really expected my third word to be magically correct, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Sandi and I were almost identical. Trick word, though, if you ask me.

Three. As good as that is, I was shocked that, after my fortunate opening word, my second word was not correct. Sandi, Patri, and I all share the same second word. We all lost our bragging rights.

A three and had a really good shot at a two but it was not to be. TR, I hope today is the worst of your punishment from the Wordle gods! :D
As I was beginning the puzzle this morning, I could hear a couple of birds chirping, so I thought CHIRP would be a good start. Even better than I thought with C, H & R all in position. Ok, this is great but then I realized how many words have the pattern CHxRx. I’ve never done this before but I actually started making a list in my Notes app. I came up with CHARM, CHART, CHARD, CHERT, CHORD, CHORE, CHORT and CHURN. So, should I use an elimination word to narrow down the choices, or should I just start trying to outsmart the Wordle gods? I’m solving this damn thing! I decided to go with CHORD thinking the hard K pronunciation of CH was the trick. Dangit! The gods are laughing at me, TR! At least I got the ending D which means the only word left is CHARD. Distasteful!

Me too. I got the exact same words as you on my third, fourth, and fifth tries. I didn't even know this was a word.

Four for me today.

4 for me. I had a different consonant than most of you, but went down the wrong path on my 2nd & 3rd guess.

Four

Today I consider four to be a standoff. The gods probably thought they were reeling me in after guess 2, but I parried with CURDS as an elimination word. It took me a few minutes to proceed after CURDS. I couldn't find anything fit with xUxCY, so I went to xUCxY. That quickly led me to xUCKY, and MUCKY was the only word that fit that pattern. .

Four for me, as well.
I felt LUCKY that I didn't notice YUCKY would fit, as well, as I may have gone with that first. MUCKY it was, on to my day!

I also benefited from completely overlooking YUCKY as a possible solution.

If I solved it in three or four, it could have been "down and dirty", but alas, it was a truly fugly 6

Six. As Wordle itself posted "Phew!" Took me a few words to get it down to almost and then I had to guess at the first letter a few times before running out of tries. Just made it.

A surprisingly quick five for me today.
I’m watching the water fowl on the lake this morning and started with CRANE. Found an out of position C. I see that TR and I were on the same wavelength for our second guess, POUTY. I always like finding the Y early, plus the U out of position. I thought the C likely was in fourth position with the word ending with CY. JUICY must be it. Nope, C still not at home but the U is in the second position. So, I have xUCKY. These words run through my head, LUCKY, YUCKY, MUCKY, SUCKY (?), DUCKY, F, oh never mind! I briefly debate using an elimination word but decide to just go for it. I try LUCKY but, of course, I’m not. I almost go with YUCKY but decide on MUCKY, LUCKILY.
