 This looks like an update on an article from a travel blogger a few weeks ago that said France and the head of the E.U. is thinking of closing their borders to all except Schengen countries until September 1st. The USA was on short list of other countries they don't want coming in because of all the Covid cases . I I told my husband that as long as I can get into Bavaria, Germany I will be happy but that is moving further away . BAVARIA...…" Bitte, let me in, Danke

This is another reason dd and I are thinking of postponing our river cruise until 2022.

Yes makes total sense considering 'per capita/million of population" there are several Schengen countries with higher counts  - Including right next door in Spain,Belgium and Luxembourg.

Every country has a right to ban whoever they want. But many countries in Europe have a higher death rate than the USA. Belgium, Spain, Italy, UK, France, Sweden and the Netherlands are all higher than the USA on a per capital basis. Switzerland is almost as high. I assume the bans will be reciprocal.

The US per capita death rate is rising rapidly. I'm sure we will be #1 soon enough.

Although Sweden just passed the US.

That there might be other countries on my short list doesn't mean that the US doesn't rightfully belong on it.

Brian,
I do agree with you because I wouldn't want us either, but I am VERY sad about it :bawl:. When its all said and done, Bavaria is hands down my favorite country and we have been to over 40 countries . We go there twice a year.

Oh thank goodness.
I keep hearing about US citizens pretending to be from Canada when traveling, wearing "maple leaf' hats !

Brett: I don't think too many New Yorkers have manners that are good enough to pass as Canadiens. And we give ourselves away with jaywalking and pronouncing "out"

When traveling in Europe my dd would just wear her UBC or Canada hoodie and keep her mouth shut.

Today, the EU Commision issued their guidance on how to reboot Europe's tourist industry in 2020. I skimmed through it and was impressed. It is a comprehensive plan that provides detailed guidelines for tour operators, hoteliers, transportation providers, restaurants, and just about anyone else associated with the travel industry. From what I can gather, the approach is to first allow tourism among the 27 EU nations, then hopefully expand it later. It's appears to be a solid plan driven by science. It's a lot of info, but here's the link to download the pdf's; https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/IP_20_854

I am not sure many Americans are jumping at the chance to go to Europe right now or in the near future anyway. I am sure there will be travel bans based on citizenship for a long time to come.

Naahh! It's just us Canadians in our Maple Leaf hats (or sometimes Yankees hats...OMG, did I just say that!?!), pretending to be Americans in case we commit a faux pas and don't want anyone to "blame Canada"!!! LOL!!! :p

Here are the statistics for Canada. Based on the ranking of the chart by deaths/1M of population, Canada would be right at the bottom with 141 deaths/1M. That is an important part behind the general consensus not to reopen the Canada/US border anytime soon, or to permit the arrival of international travellers from overseas. Currently only essential commercial traffic or essential workers are permitted to cross the border in either direction. The first time in over 150 years.

Mav, check flights. I see flights from Frankfurt to USA according to US Embassy. I'm not sure which cities. More flights will be opening up and the date I'm hearing is June 15th

:love:THANK YOU!!! Nerodog! I'll see what I can find out, I am not sure but I think you have to have official business to go there from the USA, but it gives me hope. I have a flight to go to Bavaria, Germany on July 3rd, but at this point I will go even sooner if I can. This gives me hope I will get there

Germany is looking into travel bubbles rightvniw with Austria and Switzerland. It appears that EU countries don't want to lose the summer season yet alotvhas to do with flights espmfrom North America. I agree, probably need a reason right now. I would not give up hope just yet...keep an eye on the news and watch Lufthansa site for info.
