You're Being Lied to About Electric Cars

It’s hard to beat the utility of a modern pickup truck. They drive like cars these days, and the higher end models have luxury features that rival most luxury cars.

Trucks & suv's ride nicely when the air pressure is reduced but the reduction does effect the mpg. I disagree that a modern pickup truck is riding anywhere as nice as a Luxury Sedan. Currently we are road tripping in the Lincoln Towncar and I can drive this car for for 14+ hours without feeling road weary.

I'm a big fan of the Ford panther platform, and enjoyed the Town Car rentals I've had in the past. IMO the Lightning does ride better than a Town Car, and the modern day Ram 1500 has very few rivals for comfort. Have you driven either?

Driving a truck as a daily driver gets to be a drag. My truck (F150, 4WD, 3.5EB) goes 0-60 in under 6 seconds, but there's nothing confidence inspiring enough about the handling or braking to make me want to do that. As with all full sized trucks, it has a turning radius of about half a football field. At this point, I'd gladly ditch it for a midsize truck if they were either clearly better at something or clearly cheaper. But they're not. If Honda would make a PHEV Ridgeline, or if Ford would bring the PHEV Ranger stateside, I'd likely bite.

Go drive either the F150LP or the RAM 1500 Limited models with the coilover air suspension. The 1500 Limited or Longhorn models are consistently rated among the top ten of all vehicle interiors for mass production vehicles for a reason, that’s why I have owned two over the past ten years now.

The air suspensions deliver a really nice ride for a pickup. I’ve taken road trips up to nine hours non-stop in our 1500s over the years except for bathroom breaks - zero issues.

Nope. The trucks we drive are bigger than a 1/2 ton other than our Ridgeline which is comfortable to drive for maybe 8 hours at most. Our slightly lifted Expedition would be as close as I can get to the Ram 1500. The Expedition is on 285's and I run 30 psi in the tire for a cushy ride but my mpg is about 10, lol. I did drive it to Sedona and it was comfortable but not as comfortable as the Town Car.

We were about to get another Ridgeline but Honda decided to use VCM and disabling the VCM voids the warranty is what they say.

I’ve ridden in a few older Expeditions before - the ride doesn’t compare to my RAM 1500 with air suspension. That said, some Expedition models do offer air suspension - I’ve just never ridden in one. I run 40PSI in my tires (Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2 - P275/60R20) rides just fine. I only air them down when driving on beach/sand. The Tungsten edition is the top of the line with upgraded softer alcantara leather heated and cooled seats - a step above the normal leather in the Limited and Longhorn models. My 2012 RAM 1500 had heated leather seats that were plenty comfortable but not as nice as my current truck.

Sounds nice but kind of spendy, lol. My situation is I can travel alot with family, have a cabin for family and help my family buy property or buy a couple of $80,000 vehicles. I guess I could do both especially if I financed the vehicles but I'm happy with the vehicles that we have.

We paid $47k for the 2018 RAM 1500 back in Jan 2018 (MSRP was 64k back then). We leased it through our real estate business for three years, then bought out the lease in 2021 for around $28k with a note at 2.49% and paid it off early. We have a firm rule to only have a single car payment at any one time. We bought our 2023 Tesla MY LR two years ago now for around $60k and financed $30k at that time (sold our 2017 Honda Accord that was paid off to fund most of the downpayment). That was the most expensive vehicle we’ve ever purchased by far.

I’d never buy a new pickup these days. They are just too expensive at $80-90k MSRP for the higher end models that I prefer. I’d buy certified preowned - which is how we’ve bought most of our vehicles prior to buying our current RAM and Tesla vehicles. That said, we only have 63k miles on our 2018 RAM 1500 and knock on wood it’s in great shape - no reason to get rid of it really.

We test drove a couple of ev's yesterday for kicks. Two of them were Chevys. One was an Equinox which is way to narrow in the front seat. We didn't like the fit or the ride. It was peppy. The other was the Blazer which was comfortable enough in the front seats and had barley enough room in back for cargo. It could work. Checked out the Silverado EV and we like the look with the taper coming off the cabin like the Avalanche has. The seats were ok but not what I would call luxury. The Silverado looks the best of all of the EV's I've seen but we ran out of time to test drive it but I was assured that the ride is better than the Blazer.

Went over to Tesla and checked out the Model Y and Model 3. The model 3 is a bit cramped in the front seat. The model Y is roomy enough but the seats are hard. I wouldn't want to drive either of these for a long road trip is what I think. I wanted to test drive the model Y but there were only two guys working and both had customers.

Bill

I called Tesla and made an appointment for this afternoon to drive a model y. The two guys from yesterday were working today and there were plenty of people in the show room. I told one of the guys I have an appointment and he got right on it. Anyway, we did test drive the Tesla model y. It's definitely different and accelerates better than the Blazer EV. The ride isn't as nice as the Lexus and I could feel every crack on the road, imo. It's not really a luxury road trip vehicle.

Did you drive the new MY? I doubt it as most places don’t have them yet especially outside of urban areas. My local Tesla showroom doesn’t have one yet either in the showroom or for test drives. The new MY - affectionately dubbed the Juniper - has a much better suspension - similar but better than the new M3 - along with many other upgrades including a much quieter cabin - basically significant upgrades for NVH characteristics that makes it feel more luxurious. Here’s a link to a recent review on the new MY:

The Tesla is definitely not a Lexus or an old Lincoln ride, imo. It does put a smile on my face when I accelerate. Same goes for my wife. Honestly, if it didn't have so much tech I think it would draw a larger group of buyers. The Chevy Blazer seemed more of an in-between with just enough tech not to be over techy.

As far as my feeling for Elon Musk go, I don't care about what people say about him. I like him because he is an incredible inventor and a capitalistic entrepreneur. I think history will remember him this.

Yeah it’s not going to be as luxurious as the Lexus - you’d have to step up to the Model X for a bit more luxury but they are pricey and IMHO not worth it at least for us - but YMMV.

We took the model Y out. It was a 2025 but I was told there is a refreshed Y arriving soon to Palm Springs which is where we are today. The model y we tested has antonymous driving installed, panoramic roof, leather seats, decent enough stereo and alot of tech. There is an area just out of Palm Springs that has about every car dealer in a small area. The only one that I liked regarding looks was the Chevy Siverado.

I'm not a fan of the doors on the x, lol. I did see a Tesla Roadster EV pull in as we were leaving. It was very nice and looked fast. I'm not sure what they call it but it's a wow for looks.

Inventor ??????

Note: Musk didn’t invent anything. He bought out the two partners who did the inventing.

Every day there are new announcements about advanced battery technology
Many are destined to never become more than a laboratory curiosity

Here is a breakthrough that may move out of the lab and into new age battery production

Developed by MIT researchers, it checks off all of the right boxes

Not true - Musk was as an early angel series A investor in Tesla from the outset and became directly involved in vehicle and battery engineering with JB Straubel, basically as co-chief engineer in 2004 - and became Chairman in 2004 - and eventually became CEO in 2008. Tesla was founded on 7/1/2003 . Tesla did not release the Roadster until 2008. This is an often parroted but inaccurate assessment of the early days of Tesla.

Yes, inventor and innovator. In the last couple of years Musk has invented a product we were looking into called Neuralink. You are right in how things are invented in that it can be a collaboration of many people who are experts in their fields. Elon Musk had the vision and resources to hire the right people at the right times. Here is an old list of inventions pre-political viewpoints of Elon Musk.

How much longer does anyone thing the EV rebates are going to be offered ? The Fed has stopped buying EV's mostly because they don't have anyone to fix them when they break down is what I think. The EV chargers that were a big part of the Inflation Reduction Act are no longer happening so charger infrastructure will be affected. I'm not sure it matters as most EV drivers use home chargers.

oh boy. You insult all of us engineers and scientists by saying Musk is an inventor.
As a friend says, Musk is just a slave driver.
Musk has the money to hire the best engineers and scientists and pushes them to find the best innovative solution but in no way does this guy find solutions.
He may approve or reject any proposal solutions presented by his engineers/scientists like any engineering manager/director/VP does.
Just check the quantity of patents his companies owns and check the few where his name is listed in the inventor list.
Even if he listed as inventor, it doesn't mean he did something important in the invention because I see in my career many people added on patents as inventors when they did nothing.

FYI, Neuralink (founded in 2016) is one of many companies working in the Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) field. Some have been founded before Neuralink but the biggest difference between Neuralink its competitors is the funding ($$$) of Neuralink is much more (https://www.idtechex.com/en/researc...rket-thrive-before-elon-musks-neuralink/31746).

Like some people say, wait some years until people forget about Twitter and you will see people starting to say that Musk invented X.

I think it's already happened. From what I read Nueralink was founded by Elon Musk and a group of other professionals. I guess it's kind of like Thomas Edison getting credit for inventing the light bulb which was invented by others. We were interested in Nueralink for an ALS patient. It's amazing that this technology can help in the way it does. It's hard to believe there are those in power that purposely deny those with ALS this tech which should be available to anyone with ALS, imo.
