I can kind of see this. If you have an elderly loved one who cannot live alone, putting them in a senior facility is not exactly a great option right now. My family is desperate to see my mom.

I see the need for the next 12-24 months or so but after that, these type of homes may not be in such demand. If I wanted to keep my elderly loved one at home, I would probably design a house that is not so limited in use.

By "reported cases" do they mean "positive tests?" If so the case acquired fatality rate is probably a magnitude smaller than presented on the chart.

Appears to be more rationalization of the facts... we're at about 250,000 dead in the US and 1 million globally so far, and it's going to be much higher before this is over. Stay home, wear a mask, don't congregate, slow the spread.

Be glad that you are in a phase of your life and that you live in a home that will allow you to avoid it.

I suspect that if you work in healthcare an employer might require it. Or a public school. Or if you live in a senior care facility. Or if you want to go to a concert. Many people will not be able to "opt out" depending on their circumstances.

Maybe masks work and we do not need to stay home. I took our daughter to the aquarium when we were in Georgia. 100% of people were wearing masks. There was little to no social distancing. Everything at the aquarium was open including petting the sting rays. We did not get sick. We have been going out a lot since we got our daughter and none of us have gotten sick. We wear a mask 100% of the time as does everyone around us. If this is such a simple solution, then why are so many people getting sick? I do not get it. Are the people getting sick not wearing masks?

People are getting sick somehow and rising rapidly. Not sure if it is in part a result of the nation wide super spreader event last week or that has still not further increased the numbers. But at a certain level even going to the bank or grocery store is a super spreader event. I am in favour of large lockdowns. Even to the point where people are restricted from leaving their house based on last digit of ID number and only for fuel, banks, grocery and pharmacy. Nothing else is needed.

Our county never got past stage two. I think we are not allowed to do much but after the Federal Unemployment checks stopped I saw many people returning to work. Every one wears masks every where but out doors for the most part. I officiated a couple of weddings this year and no one wore masks or social distanced. At the Cathedral where my great grand son was Baptized they limited the group size. I'm told there is no real regular Mass at this time.

I feel really bad for the older population that require assistance these days. They are locked away and have hardly any contact with their family and friends because of the Covid rules. When there is contact the visitor has to wear protective gear and a mask. That is what the older person who is not quite with it see. A person in plastic with a mask or a person they recognize separated by a wall of glass. Very limited personal contact when they need it the most, even in hospice.

Or is just one safeguard among many. Staying away from people is better. I would not go anywhere indoors where masks are not required. It has been that way here for 5-6 months now.

Have there been similarly infectious diseases, allowed to run unchecked and without a scientific based national response, in recent memory?

With many Governors still not insisting on basic common knowledge prevention techniques, such as masks, are you surprised that the R0 is increasing and many have C19?

So far this year the only certain method for lowering the spread has been lockdowns, masks, social distancing, and respect for the virus.

Hospitals are full again and the numbers keep rising.

Some days I wonder if those of you who claim to believe in science truly do.

Reference please on that quote. Since I have heard him talk about masks 100 times I have never heard him say anything like that. As for your last sentence that was answered by the cdc in post 74. In the link there are twelve studies showing masks work with an efficiency of 70 to 80 percent (please note NOT 100%). Please post any study that says masks do not work.

I think the reason some people will not wear masks is because the extreme pro-maskers talk down to them and insult them. It seems like people need a solution and they see masks as a solution and they also need a scapegoat and they can point fingers at the anti-maskers. This is probably why the President did not want to wear a mask. It wasn’t opposition to the mask. It was opposition to the people who looked down on them. It was worse when Covid started but there are still people who are doing this. It just causes the anti-maskers to dig in their heals and makes the problem worse. The pro-maskers are trying to encourage people to wear masks but the way they go about it has alienated many people. This is why it ultimately became political.
