It is the concept of selling something is better than nothing. Also, once a member buys a small amount of points, it's easier to persuade them later to buy more points to be able to make more bookings.
Could be.
But it didn’t used to be the pitch- I was always shown the points chart to see what I’d need for various location in our sales meetings.
It is entirely possible the sales force has been instructed to use this method.
In any case id the sales people are saying the points purchase is needed to fully participate and that’s not true I am looking forward to hearing from some folks who call them out in their meetings.

If you want to, PM me when you are about to arrive and we can have a meet n greet. Will be in Naia for Thanksgiving week but will probably be in Kona for the other weeks of Nov.

Have a safe trip and have fun at MKO.

Exactly.
But when sales people tell enrolled weeks owners they need to buy 1000 points so “all our points would be available in the new point system” that’s what they are saying.
So the answer the enrolled owners should give the sale person is you told me I’d have access to everything when I enrolled.

Now if they want to hold the Sheraton/Westin resorts separate and require purchased points to get access to them that’s another angle. But that’s not what I’ve been reading.

I‘ve read many posts about sales people saying you need to buy “1000 points” and also have friends with an enrolled week who was told 18 months ago that they need “1000 points”.
This concerted effort by the sales force to sell everyone just that number seems odd to me
Thats why I came to TUG to see if this was something complete new that they are planning to roll out with all the changes that were happening or was it just a sales pitch to just get us to buy something if not all more as we would be receiving the biggest benefit as the more you buy the bigger the discount or just get us for the 1000 points.

If I buy trust resell points and pay the 3 junk fee I should be good anyways! Right? That would still be better than buying from them.

Yes as long as you pay $4.50 per point or under all in (without the $3 MVC fee). At $7.50 a point it would be the cheapest way to aquire trust points.

You do not need to buy points to have access to the new Sheraton/Weston resorts. If you are an enrolled MVC owner already, you will also be an enrolled member in Abound with no need to buy anything. They just changed the name and added new resorts. If your purchase was not to climb to a new ownership level, I would certainly rescind.

Where did you see that statement regarding MVC owners that are automatically enrolled in Abound?? I hope you are correct. I met with a Marriott sales rep two weeks ago that told me that I needed to buy-in to the Abound program for about $15,000. Marriott owes the MVC owners s a detailed statement regarding Abound eligibility for MVC owners ASAP! Also, Marriott needs to inform their sales reps that they are providing fraudulent information to MVC owners that they need to buy points to join Abound! If anyone has seen such a document, please share with the group. Thanks.

I think the more accurate statement would be that MVC owners that are enrolled in Destination Club will be automatically enrolled in Abound; Destination Club is simply being renamed Abound and adding the option for Vistana (Sheraton/Westin) resorts and their owners to join in. If you are an MVC owner whose weeks are NOT enrolled in Destination Club, then yes, you would need to buy-in to enroll in Abound.

It’s in the Abound information and FAQ that has been posted on the MVC website, that all members of the Destination Club are automatically transitioned to Abound. It’s the same program, just a new name.

You missEd this part of his statement. ‘If you are an enrolled MVC owner already”. If you have resale weeks you would need to buy points to enroll.
