Happy Aloha Friday everyone

Hoping for some warmer weather tomorrow. Still waking up to 40s.

Our 6th grandchild was born a few days ago on my husband's birthday!!!! Tiny cute little one - hoping mom (my daughter-in-law) and baby can come home today or tomorrow :). Lot's to celebrate!

Happy Aloha Friday!! It's Mother's Day weekend. Kim and I are going to Hiro's for a nice dinner. Hope all you Mom's have an awesome day.

This week's picture takes us to the Lahaina Harbor for the Lanai Ferry. Expeditions has been providing ferry services between Maui and Lanai for over 3 decades. The trip crosses the 'Au'au Channel and takes about an hour. Between December 15th and May 15th the ride can turn into a whale watch ride as the whales frequent this channel alot during that time of year.

Enjoy and have a great Aloha Friday and an awesome weekend!! shaka

Happy Aloha Friday!! We have had this next week planned for a while. We are heading to The Big Island tomorrow to meet some friends from Wisconsin. It's their first visit to The Big Island and besides my work trips, we haven't been there for a long time.

This week's picture will take us back to The Big Island, to Hilo at The Grand Naniloa Hotel.
The hotel overlooks Hilo Bay where cruise ships come and go. This hotel is covered with Hawaiian Culture and features over $4 million worth of Kim Taylor Reece's Merrie Monarch and Hula Dancer art and Hawaiian artifacts. It really is a Hawaiian treasure and well worth staying at. I have stayed here many times on work trips and it never got old.

Enjoy and have a great Aloha Friday and an amazing weekend. shaka

Good morning everyone and I'm wishing everyone a Happy Aloha Friday.

That cruise ship looks liked an old Norwegian cruise ship.

That looks like the Pride of America. My wife and I took her parents on NCL's Pride of America in 2006. We went to Akaka Falls and some exotic mosquito gardens. When we returned to the ship, the ship went out to an area where we dined while watching the lava flowing at sunset. Happy Aloha Friday !!!!

Yes, that is The Pride of America. The bartender mentioned that while people were looking at it.

From May to September, there are few cruise ships that go to any Hawaiian Islands.
Almost only the Pride of America goes to the Hawaiian Islands during that period.
Almost all other cruise ships go to the Hawaiian Islands during October to April.

So, if you want to see a cruise ship this week or another week of May to September on the Big Island, as per the schedule, The Pride of America will be at the port of Hilo on Tuesday and at the port of Kona on Wednesday.

We're scheduled to do the inter-island cruise on the Pride of America next month. My mom and dad are visiting for my 1st retirement. I'm not fully retiring yet, in part, because we bought a house in Kaneohe. Can't complain about the views though. First 2 pics are from our upstairs lanai; 3rd is from our front window; 4th is from a walk in the neighborhood.

We like looking at the cruise ship timetables before we book a dinner at Duke's Kauai. It's fun to watch them wiggle their way out of the tiny Nāwiliwili Harbor. When we went last February we got to watch a ship we had sailed on before.

You are correct! It's the Crown Princess. We took it on a Mexican Riviera cruise in 2014.

We sailed the Hawaiian islands on the SS Independence, shortly before American Hawaiian Cruises went bankrupt following 9/11. We were *by far* the youngest on the ship, by a good 30 years, so almost all of the "active" excursions were basically the three of us (me, my spouse, and my very fit mother,) and the activities director, LOL. The ship was the sister ship to the one featured in An Affair to Remember. We had cabins in "steerage" and literally had to change elevators in order to reach the upper levels, because back when it was built, people in cabins like ours weren't *allowed* on the upper-levels. Good times, good times. But it was that cruise that convinced us that we needed to go back to Hawaii, for longer than one week, and that Maui and the Big Island were our favorites. :)

Happy Aloha Friday!! It has been cloudy for our trip here on The Big Island this week but we really didn't get much rain until last night. Last night those clouds gave way to on and off rain for most of the evening. Today is our last full day and we will be headed back into Kona for an Oceanside dinner.

This week's picture keeps us on The Big Island and takes us to Volcanoes National Park to the entrance to Nahuku (The Thurston Lava Tube). This Lava Tube was discovered in 1913. When it was discovered, the roof was covered with Lava Drippings. Unfortunately, those soon disappeared due to souvenir seekers. When The Lava Tube was active, Lava traveled through at 2,000 degrees F. When the Lava stopped flowing, it left this Lava Tube Cave that we can all explore.

Enjoy. have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!! shaka
