What happened to the 6' rule?
The dingbats lost their minds over having to social distance. "But our church services and black pepper huffing parties!"
What happened to the 6' rule?
And yet, people keep dying from it.I’m talking about the protocol the staff had to observe, which even they admitted was ridiculous. Like moving two people from Room A to Room B for quarantine. The Room B residents moved to Room A. They were next door to each other. You yourself said the early cases of covid were the most deadly. We are far enough along now with medical intervention and weakened strains so covid is not a death sentence. Geesh.
Sharing food and drink, hugging. People that have been solo a while suddenly in the midst of others. No harm at all. Just not sure why if we are going to go down this testing path for a holiday gathering, how is that different than other gatherings of people? What's special about T-giving?
Repeating above. Covid is airborne. It doesn't require "sharing food or hugging" to transmit. We've been told all along that being in close proximity to people is enough (social distancing). What difference does it make it if you've been solo or not?Sharing food and drink, hugging. People that have been solo a while suddenly in the midst of others.
How close are you getting to your coworkers and gym mates? Close enough for spittle to land on your face?Repeating above. Covid is airborne. It doesn't require "sharing food or hugging" to transmit. I am routinely in my office. We have a huge kitchen island and we are eating shoulder to shoulder. We had a thanksgiving potluck in the office sitting tightly at folding tables. We have large groups of clients in where we have communal platters for breakfast AND lunch. I work with a bunch of Covid conscious people , No one has ever suggested testing before we come to work. My world & lifestyle seems very different than yours. SPITTLE? It's AIRBORNE.How close are you getting to your coworkers and gym mates? Close enough for spittle to land on your face?
a hug would be close enough for spittle to go right in your eyes or nose or mouth. Airborne. Add a mouthful of food to that before Cousin Jason laughs so hard it becomes projectile with his spittle all over it. Airborne. From right across the table. Worse once he’s drunk, hanging on people and slobbering.
most private homes do not have commercial grade HVAC, so that is a major difference from work, the airport, the gym…
you brought up the housebound thing upstream. I don’t know where we are on the building immunity via exposure thing, quit following the stuff. But if Aunt Vera hasnt been out and about and Uncle Ed has been all around the world, he could be bringing a new variant while aunt v maybe doesn’t have ability to ward it off. Mostly, tho, I’m concerned that Auntie hasnt been around people in so long that she clings too closely for too long. Forgets everything but cute nephew and the daughter she hasn’t seen in a while. My mother was that way long before pandemic. If auntie has lost beans like my mother has, perhaps she is not washing her hands as much as she should because she’s been solo at home, not used to frequent washing because nobody is coming around spilling droplets.
And there we go -- calling people you don't like "dingbats".
And the flu and pneumonia etc etc. If protocol makes sense, fine. But if the positive two left one germ in the negative people‘s room, that difficult rearranging would not have been beneficial. The facility is understaffed as is, and to spend an inordinate amount of time moving disabled people and beds around like that was silly. I don’t think they switched the end tables or emptied the closets, so the germ could have lurked in both rooms. And yet, people keep dying from it.
My daughter and her husband traveled to Europe in Sept. They did not test but did bring their cloth masks - only to have the ability to mask up if required. They hadn't had covid and weren't worried about getting it. But of course, they did - the *day* they returned home, based upon symptoms that developed over the course of their travel day. So if you were on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to LAX you had a strong exposure because they were both running fevers, sneezing, and coughing for the 11 hour flight. They felt awful for those around them. Hearing that story is what convinced me to wear a mask on the plane when we travel. You just don't know who is sick and who isn't - and I am not talking only about covid. We just returned from Hawaii and the amount of coughing and sneezing on the plane was noticeable. I wore a mask and surprisingly so did a lot of others.I have a question. If you're one of the people who think that testing is unnecessary unless you know that you'll be in close contact with immune-compromised or other high-risk individuals, because the transmission risk is the same no matter what you're doing, do you test before traveling?
We're all pretty much back to traveling and testing/masking are pretty much no longer required, right? So, do you test before going to the airport? If not, is it because you think at-risk people aren't traveling alongside you, or is there another excuse that makes sense to you? Is anyone other than me still masking for air travel?
If they bring something into the house and I get sick, they don't really care (beyond lip service).
Reminds me of the old adage about rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. And the flu and pneumonia etc etc. If protocol makes sense, fine. Covid is here to stay, the experts say. I do wonder if all medical facilities will require masks for staff and visitors forever now, whether a corner has been turned. At least the schools and businesses have returned to normal, and people are not dropping like flies.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I will also continue to wear my KN95 mask in medical facilities. That is to protect me from sick people in the medical facilities. IMHO.Reminds me of the old adage about rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
I will continue to wear my KN95 mask in medical facilities because that's where sick people go!

Exactly, everyone has the choice to do as they wish. Surgical masks are more effective in preventing spread of flu as it is spread by droplets whereas Covid is airborne so the cloth and surgical masks are pretty useless for covid. You wish to wear some mask, by all means do so. Keep the personal condemnation of those that wish not to do so, to yourself. My concern, if any at all and as minimum as it is, is with the flu. Happy Thanksgiving.
Couldn't we say that about any public area? As has been noted, Covid is airborne. You would need to avoid being near to all other individuals, masked or unmasked. In today's society that would be near impossible to do. We've been trough that as well. When, if ever, does that fear end. Covid is with us just like the Flu is. You can't go through life in some bubble fearing any or all other humans. One very important area to always wear a mask? CVS, Walgreens or ANY drug store.
The sick (and healthy) people go there for medications. The drug stores are a great incubator for catching something!
.

Is there any data on file of Covid spreading after a college or any NFL football game or a college or a NBA basketball gameCouldn't we say that about any public area? Do we do the same for other viruses? Not all are deadly with the exception of the Flu perhaps. Consider that viruses can live on hard surfaces like doorknobs, light switches and cell phones for up to 18 hours. The flu virus has been known to live on surfaces for up to three days. When does an over abundance of caution become Mysophobia?
Bring on the feast.LOLSome of you have interesting relatives. Maybe they say the same about you. We are celebrating today, and they are people I love to spend time with. My house is clean and my contributions are ready. Bring on the feast!
Forgive me Roger.I know that I am late in the game, but a pair of comments about the special dangers of Thanksgiving gatherings. (Travel)
You can be a exposed to aerosols from four to six feet away, but the intensity doesn't compare to when you are face to face hugging. Imagine a doctor trying to examine your throat holding a light six feet away versus holding the light up near to your throat. Same principle.
It's always possible for an office worker to pick up Covid and bring it to the office, but for the most part they are being exposed to the same contacts everyday. Compare that to a meeting at the office with sales reps coming in from across the country. The number of indirect new contacts would be enormous in comparison.
A special warning that one should do extra testing having traveled to family get togethers during Thanksgiving is well warranted. I don't regularly test myself, but certainly will do so after a get together in my family and advise others to do likewise.
RUH ROH … you are testing AFTER thanksgiving? The guidance was to test before hand.I know that I am late in the game, but a pair of comments about the special dangers of Thanksgiving gatherings. (Travel)

Thanks, I wish, I knew you should test before a major event.RUH ROH … you are testing AFTER thanksgiving? The guidance was to test before hand.
