Hello,

I’m new and considering buying from a member. I have only bought from a resort in the past, so don’t know much about person to person

1. I’d like to pay a little extra and use an ESCROW company. Any referrals?

2. How do I avoid getting scammed?

3. Any links?

4. Advice?

5. Must do’s?

6. Must don’t’s?

7. What are customary charges?

8. How do I. Find out if they actually own the week?

I tried a basic search on this stuff, but I’m not used to the website yet…

THANK YOU!!

When you say Member, I presume you're meaning an Owner? "Member" implies someone who posts here on Tug. (Although many Tug Members also sell timeshares they own.)

Buying from an Owner is often easier than buying from a Developer, provided you've done your due diligence on what it is you're buying. If the price seems fair, and the person is forthcoming with details, it's a pretty easy thing. You can ask the Seller to provide an estoppel from the resort, which will give you a pretty good idea of what you're buying.

Unless you're spending a lot of money for what you're getting, an Escrow company may not be necessary. But a title transfer company may serve that need, in a more affordable way. LT Transfers are a very well-regarded company that provides title and closing services for just a few hundred dollars. Very trustworthy. They are Tug members, and are absolutely the best in the business. https://www.lttransfers.com/

If you'd care to provide some details about the purchase you're thinking of making, we can provide more specific information. You don't need to name the Seller, but listing the resort name, the week or points amount, the sales asking price, and so forth, will help us to better help you.

LT Transfers can also handle escrow in most cases.
