Four for me.
CLEAR came out of nowhere but I tried it anyway. Pretty productive with the starting C and A and R looking for homes. Moving them to what I thought were likely positions, I tried CRASH. Nope. I tried reversing the A and R with CARGO. Got the R right and left last position as the only option for the A. So, CxRxA. Perusing my keyboard, I finally found the answer CIRCA 9am.

Three today after a fortunate second word. Usually I am just trying to nail down the vowels on my second word plus look into a few conssnants, but sometimes everything falls into place.

Two …

Had a hard time coming up with any word that fit after guess 1. After putting each of the remaining letters in position at least twice, I finally saw CEDAR as a possible answer.

I’m with you Sandi. I still feel pretty good about it, though.
The kittens were STALKing a lizard in the sunroom window so I tried STALK. Just an A. I went with the old tried and true ADIEU next and added a D and E. I knew DREAM was probably too simple but thought I might get at least one letter in the right place and possibly add another. I did, getting the A in position and adding the R. After looking at a couple of scenarios, I tried xEDAR and CEDAR became apparent.

I am impressed with all the 2's!
I obviously did not choose good starter words.

I should have looked for the A instead of the U for my 2nd guess. Wish I had used BREAD which was my initial thought....
