Five. Struggled trying to place what was eventually the third letter. By the time I got to the fifth line, only one word would fit.

Four.
Going to Animal Kingdom today and expect to see a CAMEL ow two. The gods were not impressed, only revealing an E out of position. I tried PIOUS next to flush out more vowels and found an out of position O and S. For my third attempt, I had a minor brain fart, leaving the O in position 3. SHORE finally got an ending E and added an R. After playing musical word chairs for a couple minutes, I finally got WORSE, which was good.

Should have been 4 but became a 5.

three for me

I switched from ALIEN to AIDER as a starter word so that right away I could find out if a the solution ended in ER, since the xxxER pattern is one of the toughest to solve.

Today, that gave me E and R, but out of position. So for guess 2 I was looking to put the E and R in new positions. HORSE looked like a good choice, since it put the E and R in new positions, tested for two new common consonants, and added O as a new vowel.

Three again

After guess 2 I came up with the following list of solutions: PATTY, PAGAN, TOPAZ, KAPPA, PAPAL, HAPPY, POLKA. Of those POLKA looked like the best guess as an elimination word, because it checked for P in position 1, looked for O as a new vowel, tested for L and K, and looked for A in a new position.

POLKA didn't just eliminate, it solved.

Easy threesy.
I’m at Bonnet Creek this week in Tower 6 with the HOTEL next door. That helped me find the O in second position and an L. I moved the L and checked a couple of common consonants and more vowels with SOLAR. It was a very fortuitous choice. That got the L in correct third position and found an A out of position, but could only be the ending letter. I was left with xOLxA. POLKA was the only word I could make.

Four. A bit like Patri in that I had a hard time placing the single letter that was correct in my opening word (but it was a different letter than what Patri struggled with).

Question: I know that Wordle never has words that are simply a plural of a four letter word where one adds an "s." Is the same true that it never includes past tense words where one simply adds a "d" to a four letter word? I have been avoiding "-ed" endings and forgot about that in my second entry.

I've always assumed past tense xxxED words based on three letter verb roots are in play - PRIED, FRIED, TRIED, PARED, FARED, etc.
