I think outlook on how you view this virus and the risks you take can be directly related to knowing others that had it and their outcome. The severity and reality is realized.
We had a friend hospitalized and still not fully recovered. Another friend very sick for 3 weeks. Another friend works at hospital in N. VA where over 100 have died--she said wear a mask and take precautions.

Need to say @Theiggy if I lived in New York I would think and act totally different. I am sorry this is so close to home for you. Hopefully better days ahead!

We live in San Jose Ca, Santa Clara country has been hit pretty hard. My wife and I have largely been in category 2 above since early March. But we are now cat 3 or at least moving that way.

I work at large tech company, I will be working from home indefinitely, we are banned from entering the campus. My wife is office manager for a small medical practice, she has been been working from home, but just this week started going back into the office part time. Apparently there is fair bit she cannot to remote.

We have done some social distanced socializing, but i try to limit that.

We've been at 4 and headed to 5. Haircut, dentist, outdoor and indoor restaurants, YMCA, lots of outdoor playing (yard work, cycling, running, hiking, etc.), friends over for drinks on our porch, visiting with neighbors. The only crowds we've been around are at Costco, Lowe's, Target, and Publix. The only places that have required a mask are Costco and the hair salon.

Was the toilet paper thing a real thing?

I agree but in the opposite.

I agree but in the opposite.

Last week was the first time we saw toilet paper at our SafeWay in months.

Since I am in Alameda county above you I had to took. San Jose has had 2520 cases and 139 deaths compared to the 90 deaths in Alameda.

Our numbers are very close. I guess it goes to show that perception is in the eye of the beholder. I would not presume to say who is right but wish you well.

My daughter has been working at a large grocery store. She does not know of a single employee that has gotten sick .
I wonder if they announce it? Has she noticed if there are workers that haven't been showing up?

I was curious so I did a quick search and there have been grocery workers who have gotten COVID-19 and have died. So tell your dd to continue being careful.

4 and would be at 5 if things like theatre and concerts were happening.

I was never at 1. I was at 2 for a very short time and quickly went to 3 and then 4.

This week I got my haircut and hubby and I went on a neighbors pontoon boat with 6 other people. I felt very alive at least for the day.

Was part of my retirement dream to get on the lake. Was hoping to walk to the mailboats and MS MT Washington a lot to get out on it but I don’t know that they will be operating this year.

I do plan to tell our son he is welcome to visit us now as I am done with this whole thing and I need for our home to feel like a home. Everyone we know here is having their families over- grandchildren, etc.

if I die because of it so be it.
Happy to hear your retirement is taking shape. When I read that you are at a 4, my first thought was "what about your son?" - - glad to hear that door has opened.

I started and stayed at 3. Purchased a very small amount of wipes and liquid sanitizer. Went to use the wipes recently and they had dried out. I would leapfrog to stage 5 if it were possible. At this point I know of -0- cases in my circle, and don't even know a friend of a friend who has been hit. (Speaking only of the illness, not secondary effects.)

Yes they announce so that co-workers are informed of the fact that they may have been exposed. She got two communications of "possible Covid" but both were negative upon testing.

Been at #2 since March 10. Masks inside places of business, but not outside except at the drive-thru window. No gloves. No housekeeper (she came across town on public transportation) so we've been paying her not to come; but we've had workers come into our house for home improvement projects. Transitioning to #3. Definitely no travel this year, and probably no flying next year. My risk profile: age plus one condition, controlled with medication.

I am not at 5, even though we have the antibodies. We still care for two elderly people, both in their later years: my stepdad and Rick's stepmom. We cannot expose them to anything that we might get while at the stores. We wear masks, we do very few trips to the store, and we are making sure the two of them go to the stores only when absolutely necessary. There is no stopping my mother-in-law from going anywhere she wants. My stepdad needs a haircut, so he will be going soon, but of course he will wear a mask. He is a germaphobe anyway, so this has made him worse.

Thanks, I know each country reports independently , but in many ways the whole bay area is linked. I have a number of coworkers that that live in Alameda country, so lots of daily cross pollination between the cites and counties...,

We are between #1 and 2, and plan to stay that way for the duration. Fortunately, we took our annual trip to Hawaii the first 3 weeks of Jan, so we are done with vacations this year. We have another home in Nevada, that we can safely drive to if we want to, but haven't yet. We've made 2 cautious trips to the post office box and the credit union in the last 2 months. We walk for exercise nearly every day, but we live on the edge of town and can walk on the canal banks without coming in close contact with anyone. We carry masks anyway, in case something unexpected comes up. We have groceries, prescriptions and all other supplies delivered. We take all deliveries into the garage first, and wipe everything down on a table out there, before taking it in the house. Produce goes into a fresh bag before it comes in. Our adult kids limit visits and we visit outside wearing masks. No one comes in our house.

*Few more thoughts: I'm giving my husband a "butch" with the clippers today - at his request. I colored my own hair and cut my own bangs last week. I have long hair so the rest of it is fine indefinitely. Due to some insurance changes, I saw all of my doctors at the end of 2019, so I'm caught up on that for awhile. I recently cancelled routine check-ups with my eye doctor and dentist. We're paying our housekeeper not to come. In early Feb, before everything hit, we put a $1,000 deposit down on a pool renovation project, and we decided to go ahead and do it, because we were concerned that the company might go out of business due to the Coronavirus. The workers stayed outside and we stayed inside - we talked to them on the cell phone, when they had questions. Each day after they left, we wiped down the gate handles.

Recently my daughter asked me, "Wouldn't you be mad at yourself if you got the Coronavirus and you knew that you could have been more cautious, but weren't?" - Yes, I would. YMMV

Coronavirus Stats from our county: 621 confirmed cases, 26 deaths.

I'm a 3. We get out and enjoy the lifestyle here on Marco, without going to bars or many restaurants. Mostly take-out or delivery for us.

Cindy, how were you able to be tested for the antibodies?

Wow, this all sounds pretty cautious. I can't imagine being more so.

We’re between 1 and 2. I’ve resumed three-mile daily walks through our town—I certainly don’t wave people away but I will cross the road when I see people approaching in my path and I’ll talk to them from that distance. I carry a mask but since I don’t go into stores there’s rarely a reason to put it on.

I’m deferring haircuts and dental cleanings for now. I had a medical close call last year (in situ melanoma aka stage zero) so I’m on a 3-month schedule with the dermatologist. I’m keeping those appointments, and I’ve already had a non-cancerous mole removed during the lockdown with me the only patient on the premises and the surgeon and I both masked.

We’ve never had a housekeeper so that’s a non-issue.

CVS delivers for free and we pay for a big Instacart order every couple of weeks. Plus lots of UPS and FedEx trucks in our driveway. I don’t believe in wiping things down but delivered items spend a day or two in the garage or bagged in the refrigerator before we handle them.

We’re the lucky ones—retired with adequate savings plus Medicare and two good social security checks. A big backyard that we pay others to mow. Semi-socialism for us but not for the people who do the work.

Cindy, how were you able to be tested for the antibodies?

I don’t know where Cindy is, but here on Long Island, NY antibody tests are readily available at most clinics.

Cindy did you have coronavirus early on?

In March we were a 2. By the end of April we were at 3.5. In May we are at 4+.

We had some family over for dinner and my three grand daughters decided to stay the night. We played the Nintendo WII. I always lose any game we play. Those girls are fast.

Going to the cabin tomorrow to do some Jeeping. It looks like there will be 40+ people up there through out the weekend. Mostly family members.

Interesting is that many adults in the family think they had covid 19 between Jan - March. I think I may have had it last December. Same for my wife. We think this because we all came down with the dry cough and fever. Only 1 of our family members was tested and she tested positive at a nursing home but has recovered.

We are between 1 and 2.....very much like descriptions provided by DeniseM and Conan - We have been isolating since the first week of March; we were in Florida for the month with my daughter's family but they were aligned with our feelings and it was actually a wonderful month enjoying isolation together. We were lucky & took our 1st big trip of the year in January to Frenchman's Cove with same daughter, son-in-law & grandkids. Since we've been home the last 7 weeks we isolate; most Dr appointments were scheduled in February; although my husband has a colonoscopy scheduled in July and it's a must.....so that will be our first big isolation compromise. We order all food & prescriptions; love gardening in a big yard and enjoy the special distraction of our foster baby (who turned one this week :cheer:- - we live in a very rural area of SC (we have 40 cases in the county right now; 3 in our zip code).
