Wyndham View From the Balcony

Club Wyndham Skyline Tower, 25th Floor:

IMG_1120.jpeg

If it wasn’t so foggy you could see the ocean. Really enjoying this one.

Moved to Unit 2447 from #2542 at Wyndham Panama City Beach this morning. A stiff wind from the east has kicked up the ocean a bit. Red flags are out and amazingly, nobody is in the water.

Wisconsin Dells (Glacier Canyon) - view from the balcony in building 7 (D) - this is the Aquavia Lumina. I think it runs 8pm - midnight. One of these days we'll do it, but with a 2, 5, and 6 year old we didn't attempt it this year. About a one hour walk outside, looks very cool! Daytime picture for contrast (sorry for the poor quality (bright and sunny day)).

View from the Rooftop of 'Inn at the Park' - San Diego. Beautiful views from all 4 sides of the rooftop.

* Looking over the harbor - that is Coronado Island (and the airport)

* The entrance to Balboa Park (most definitely in walking distance)

Another somewhat disappointing balcony from Wyndham Smokey Mountains 2BR rm 2915 - first floor. Though it was a cheap Extra Vacations buy through RCI and I had no idea what to request if anything... I guess next time I'll at least request a higher floor, and may try and see if I can get on the side of collier drive that the check-in building is on. Finding resort maps is a bit hard - I've resorted a bit to using google satellite view lol.

Edit, actually this side may be better for the Elcot ?sp? activities center, but would prefer being closer to it - maybe bld 22 or something. Will end up in my eventual video review.

Not much help, as it turned out.

Wyndham Nashville view from balcony. My disappointments continue... Many comments to come with my review and videos later on.

Last time I was at Nashville, which was 3 weeks ago, I got a pretty good unit in Building 14, think it was unit 1413. Ground floor, big 1BR DLX unit.

For the record, if you are going to the Nashville location and expecting views of any kind, you are at the wrong location. There are no "good" views of anything to look at. You will be looking at courtyards or one of the pools. The view out the back of my unit, which had a very big porch/balcony was of the grille area, a pavillion and one of the outdoor pools, which was closed for the season. Parking was plentiful and I was always able to get a spot pretty much right outside my unit which made unloading and loading pretty easy.

One or a couple of the older buildings there don't have elevators, so that's the one to avoid, otherwise, it really doesn't matter at Nashville.

One of the odd things I noticed about this unit was that the master bedroom the bed was set up at a 45 degree angle to the wall, there were no nightstands, no headboard but there was a recessed area you could put stuff in the area the headboard would have been. With a big mirror. It was fine, just different. Made the master bedroom feel smaller than it should have. But the bathroom had 2 sinks which was nice.

The "update" wasn't that bad

Wyndham Canterbury one bedroom (room 802).
No balcony. Just view from the window.

How was area around the resort?
Yes, this location is near the Tenderloin with lots of homeless folks.

Our immediate area felt safe but we weren’t out and about late at night. We had to use our room card to gain entrance into the building and it was quiet at night with no constant loud city noises.

The concierge will tell you when leaving the resort you’ll want to go left when leaving the building (towards Taylor Street) and stay out of the Tenderloin.

Also make sure your transit connections are outside of the Tenderloin. I wasn’t paying attention when my husband had us taking the Muni 27 and 7 buses to get to the Botanical Gardens at Golden Gate Park. Our bus connection location was at the border of the Tenderloin which looked a little dicey. We took a different route on the way back.

@WManning Update  ...well, this evening we decided to have dinner at a Japanese restaurant on the same block as Canterbury. I chose a window seat at the restaurant and during our meal, I saw a guy squatting across the street taking a dump :poop: on the sidewalk.🫣

I assume poop maps are still required when walking?

I didn't reference the poop maps. We just watched where we were walking. Luckily, it wasn't too bad.

Last time I was there was 2019, pre-pandemic. I can't imagine it has gotten any better. I had wife and 2 teenage kids with me.

We stayed there a week, splitting time between the Donnatello and Canterbury. They are both within a couple blocks of each other.

Donnatello is closer to union square, but right on the edge of the Tenderloin.

From either resort, going East and North is better than going West or South.

When I went there, we flew in to SFO, got there really late and took a cab from the airport to Donnatello, the drive as we got closer to Donnatello reminded me of taking a cab through the lower east side or Bronx in NYC in the 70's and early 80's. The next morning I got up early and went to the closest drug store which was a Walgreens South and West of Donnatello on Geary Street (has since permanently closed I just learned). The few block walk was littered with passed out and sleeping homeless people, pools of piss, needles and all other sorts of mess. It was a real eye opener, having not been there since the 1990's. It really is a different world, closer to night the druggies are out in force, openly smoking what I can only assume is crack or meth, in additon to weed and drinking. It's wild...

Canterbury is a few blocks farther from the worst of the Tenderloin. I later found out there is a CVS a slight distance father in the "better" direction I could have gone to.

I did see poop too, so that's real, although I didn't know about "poopmaps". You can walk a couple blocks towards union square and take the cable car to the wharf or walk to Market street and take either a bus or the BART around.

It's a nice town but parts of the city are pretty disgusting. It's worth it to rent a car for a day to see some of the places it's not super easy to get public transportation to, don't park it anywhere in downtown or it will get broken into or vandalized.

I stayed at Canterbury last summer and there were a few homeless and/or drunk guys hanging out across the street. They didn't bother me. No one was sleeping on the sidewalk nearby and I saw no poop!

I took public transit (train and then a bus) from the airport. My return flight was very early in the morning so I got an Lyft or Uber. I had to catch it at 3:30 am. There is a security guard near the resort and he stood with me as there was a group of young men getting mouthy and rambunctious. That was the only time I felt uneasy during the whole week.

I took the city bus and the trolleys as I was there for a conference. I left early in the morning and returned late at night most days. We had evening events and I felt safe. The hills are a killer if you are walking! There is a fairly close CVS and Walgreens and a local "mom and pop" market.

The resort staff was fabulous. You have to buzz in or use your keycard to get in, and they have security there. I loved staying at Canterbury. I would try the Donatello if I were going to the theatre.

No thanks but I can find thousands of other places to visit with my family. Poop maps or not.

Lake Marion, Bldg. 3, Unit 310.

I have posted balcony pix from Lake Marion I don't know how many times. Here's another one. I-95 can't be more than a couple hundred yards behind me but could be on another planet in terms of peace and quiet.

Kingstown Reef, Azalea Bldg., Unit 4302

First time here. All units are Presidential. Booked 2BR, upgraded to 3BR. Unit is very nice. One unusual feature is a divider with gas fireplace between living and dining areas. Microwave is in the island at about knee level!

Resort has two pools, two hot tubs, children's wading pool, mini-golf, fitness center, grills. The area has about everything you can think of. Semi-high pressure to attend an update (guaranteed not a sales presentation!!) with the usual hooks -- new this, new that.

Three nights here then off to The (cleverly named) Resort on Cocoa Beach for two weeks.

The resort is a shared property with the Worldmark Orlando. We stayed in Wyndham units before they were converted over to Worldmark and before they added the PR rooms. Every time we drive by when in Orlando I say to my wife that there is her favorite resorts. It isn't. I have no idea why they made it a PR property in Club Wyndham.

Our original plan was to stay at Ocean Walk for three nights before going to The Resort on Cocoa Beach. (Last year at ROCB, we were so late checking in that we were assigned an oceanfront unit on the second floor with no view whatsoever of the ocean.) However, I got scared off by a four day rock concert at the Speedway with over 150 bands, etc.

Kingstown Reef is nice enough but there's really no reason to stay here over say, Bonnet Creek, where there's a lot more going on. It's just not a particularly remarkable resort. (Although the master bath is spectacular!)

Edit: Adding a few pictures.
