Wyndham View From the Balcony

How was area around the resort?
Yes, this location is near the Tenderloin with lots of homeless folks.

Our immediate area felt safe but we weren’t out and about late at night. We had to use our room card to gain entrance into the building and it was quiet at night with no constant loud city noises.

The concierge will tell you when leaving the resort you’ll want to go left when leaving the building (towards Taylor Street) and stay out of the Tenderloin.

Also make sure your transit connections are outside of the Tenderloin. I wasn’t paying attention when my husband had us taking the Muni 27 and 7 buses to get to the Botanical Gardens at Golden Gate Park. Our bus connection location was at the border of the Tenderloin which looked a little dicey. We took a different route on the way back.

@WManning Update  ...well, this evening we decided to have dinner at a Japanese restaurant on the same block as Canterbury. I chose a window seat at the restaurant and during our meal, I saw a guy squatting across the street taking a dump :poop: on the sidewalk.🫣

I assume poop maps are still required when walking?

Last time I was there was 2019, pre-pandemic. I can't imagine it has gotten any better. I had wife and 2 teenage kids with me.

We stayed there a week, splitting time between the Donnatello and Canterbury. They are both within a couple blocks of each other.

Donnatello is closer to union square, but right on the edge of the Tenderloin.

From either resort, going East and North is better than going West or South.

When I went there, we flew in to SFO, got there really late and took a cab from the airport to Donnatello, the drive as we got closer to Donnatello reminded me of taking a cab through the lower east side or Bronx in NYC in the 70's and early 80's. The next morning I got up early and went to the closest drug store which was a Walgreens South and West of Donnatello on Geary Street (has since permanently closed I just learned). The few block walk was littered with passed out and sleeping homeless people, pools of piss, needles and all other sorts of mess. It was a real eye opener, having not been there since the 1990's. It really is a different world, closer to night the druggies are out in force, openly smoking what I can only assume is crack or meth, in additon to weed and drinking. It's wild...

Canterbury is a few blocks farther from the worst of the Tenderloin. I later found out there is a CVS a slight distance father in the "better" direction I could have gone to.

I did see poop too, so that's real, although I didn't know about "poopmaps". You can walk a couple blocks towards union square and take the cable car to the wharf or walk to Market street and take either a bus or the BART around.

It's a nice town but parts of the city are pretty disgusting. It's worth it to rent a car for a day to see some of the places it's not super easy to get public transportation to, don't park it anywhere in downtown or it will get broken into or vandalized.

I stayed at Canterbury last summer and there were a few homeless and/or drunk guys hanging out across the street. They didn't bother me. No one was sleeping on the sidewalk nearby and I saw no poop!

I took public transit (train and then a bus) from the airport. My return flight was very early in the morning so I got an Lyft or Uber. I had to catch it at 3:30 am. There is a security guard near the resort and he stood with me as there was a group of young men getting mouthy and rambunctious. That was the only time I felt uneasy during the whole week.

I took the city bus and the trolleys as I was there for a conference. I left early in the morning and returned late at night most days. We had evening events and I felt safe. The hills are a killer if you are walking! There is a fairly close CVS and Walgreens and a local "mom and pop" market.

The resort staff was fabulous. You have to buzz in or use your keycard to get in, and they have security there. I loved staying at Canterbury. I would try the Donatello if I were going to the theatre.

No thanks but I can find thousands of other places to visit with my family. Poop maps or not.

Lake Marion, Bldg. 3, Unit 310.

I have posted balcony pix from Lake Marion I don't know how many times. Here's another one. I-95 can't be more than a couple hundred yards behind me but could be on another planet in terms of peace and quiet.

Kingstown Reef, Azalea Bldg., Unit 4302

First time here. All units are Presidential. Booked 2BR, upgraded to 3BR. Unit is very nice. One unusual feature is a divider with gas fireplace between living and dining areas. Microwave is in the island at about knee level!

Resort has two pools, two hot tubs, children's wading pool, mini-golf, fitness center, grills. The area has about everything you can think of. Semi-high pressure to attend an update (guaranteed not a sales presentation!!) with the usual hooks -- new this, new that.

Three nights here then off to The (cleverly named) Resort on Cocoa Beach for two weeks.

The resort is a shared property with the Worldmark Orlando. We stayed in Wyndham units before they were converted over to Worldmark and before they added the PR rooms. Every time we drive by when in Orlando I say to my wife that there is her favorite resorts. It isn't. I have no idea why they made it a PR property in Club Wyndham.

Our original plan was to stay at Ocean Walk for three nights before going to The Resort on Cocoa Beach. (Last year at ROCB, we were so late checking in that we were assigned an oceanfront unit on the second floor with no view whatsoever of the ocean.) However, I got scared off by a four day rock concert at the Speedway with over 150 bands, etc.

Kingstown Reef is nice enough but there's really no reason to stay here over say, Bonnet Creek, where there's a lot more going on. It's just not a particularly remarkable resort. (Although the master bath is spectacular!)

Edit: Adding a few pictures.

Is this Club Wyndham Newport Onshore, Newport, RI?

Yes, Club Wyndham Newport Onshore. Where you staying for spring traing in AZ 2026? We stayed at Legacy Golf Resort the last 2 years and South Mountain the previous 3 years. Any of the spring training venues you won't be disappointed with and the weather is perfect at that time of year.

Club Wyndham Towers on the Grove - room 1034 - this is the corner two bedroom portion of a three bedroom lockoff that contains both 1034 and 1036. I always recommend rooms ending in 20 or 34 as they are the corner oceanfront rooms on each floor.

Never stayed at TOTG. Been to SeaWatch and Westwinds countless times and Ocean Blvd maybe twice. Based on your liking the resort so much, I booked a 2BR Deluxe unit for four nights in mid-November on the way to the Orlando area.

What are the chances of an upgrade to 3BR that time of year?

My wife likes it especially as it’s within walking distance of a local grocery store that she loves, and a few restaurants, mostly Snooky’s oceanfront right next door, or Don Schemas Mexican place (only been open a year). We also really like Roca Roja Cantina - about 3/4 of a mile away for a bit more upscale Mexican.

TOTG rooms are smaller than the other MB resorts from what I’ve read - just a heads up. Not sure on upgrade chances at that time of year as we always use our resale points to book 10 months out since we usually want a three bedroom unit to host other family members. We made due with a two bedroom deluxe oceanfront this year and hosted two different couples and our youngest son (on the couch) and it was fine for us but others might consider it a bit tight. The oceanfront view from the room and balcony is what matters most to us.

This year I confirmed that ALL three bedroom oceanfront lockout units are on the corners of the building ending in 1034/1036. So if you book or are upgraded to a three bedroom lockout, you’ll always be on the corner which IMHO has the best views all around and has windows and balconies in all bedrooms.
