Hi all!
Was hoping to get some help/advice on here.
My husband and I made the huge mistake of signing a timeshare contract with westgate on Jan 21. On the 23rd (2 days later) we went to westgates contract office to tell them we want to cancel our contract. The closing officer there asked me to write a letter. I wrote the letter. She took the letter along with our folder and tablet. She stamped my letter with date and time, she wrote her name and checked off that tablet and folder were returned. She told us that that’s all we had to do for cancellation and it could take about 21 days to have the cancellation processed. I al
Seeing here that many people sent in their letter via mail. Is that necessary? Or was the letter at westgates contract office enough to get out of this legally?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

What you did may or may not be sufficient, but why don't you do it again but according to the terms in your contract so there is no doubt? The effort and expense are minimal; the amount at stake is substantial. Yes, I am being very cautious, but you don't want to get stuck being a Wastegate owner.

Problem is they took everything back from me when I gave them the letter. I don’t even know what I would have to do for it to really be sufficient and according to the terms of the contract. Ughh what a mess.

Do you have any evidence of the cancelation at all? I would consider doing as vacationtime1 suggested above. If I were in your situation I would include in my letter documentation of everything you did including the name of the person you talked with. While others may laugh at this, I would state in the letter to "please check all your surveillance cameras for X date at X time and you will see the sequence of events." I actually used this line in a totally different situation and it worked. Considering it is a ts business I bet everything was recorded on camera.

Whatever you do try not to panic. Most likely everything is okay and you are out of your contract. Fingers crossed. Do come back and let us know how it turns out.

Maybe another Westgate member here can give you specifics, like address and such, but Westgate is infamous for sleazy tactics. The managers you talked to did nothing but stamp your paperwork. You still own it, and on the 10th day from when you signed it, you no longer can cancel. You MUST send a letter out today by certified mail. Once it is in the mail today, you are all set.

Would you know where I have to mail my letter?

Thank you very much for this. I don’t have to send anything to Las Vegas? I don’t know why I thought I read something about Vegas?
I so appreciate all of you helping me with this. Awesome group over here. Thank u!
You will find ***ZERO*** people here who has anything good to say about Westgate. If we can save one, or 1 thousand, from spending tens of thousands for a worthless timeshare, this is the place to do it!

Many Westgate Resorts may be purchased on eBay for just a dollar. Check it out for yourself......

Good move to rescind!

While this is normally good advice I think Westgate is so terrible (including the resale restrictions) that OP shouldn’t buy it for a dollar either. Op can get much better timeshares on eBay for a dollar than Westgate.
