Now I wish that I stockpiled toilet paper. When the run on toilet paper started I thought it was ridiculous. I get mine from Amazon every 2 months and it covers both our home and our business. It's due to arrive in a few days and of course, Amazon says they are out and will attempt to find some to fill my order. So, I tried ordering from HomeDepot, Smart and Final and Coscto - all show they are out of stock in my area. Local grocery store has zero on the shelf. I have 3 rolls, so hopefully I'll be good for a while...
If you have a ts or hotel nearby, check in for a night and take the 2 rolls, tissues, paper towels, wipes, coffee, etc. Diamond has some available for 50 points a night = $10

There’s over 120 manufacturers of toilet paper in the USA alone

I doubt we will run out forever as some seem to think

Problem is going to be in a few months when these companies have no sales other than from those of us who didn’t fill our garages full of it
Probably be a year long sale on the stuff

Today when I was talking to our son he was telling me how when he was bored he was calculating how long it will take people to use up all the toilet paper they're buying. What!! He told me he hasn't bought toilet paper in a year for the 4 of them. So a family of 4 with two little girls ages 3 and 8 who once in a while need to be reminded that they don't need to use quite that much toilet paper to get the job done. Most of us have been there with kids. When they moved into their house in March of 2019 my husband took him to Costco and stocked them up on food and paper products as a housewarming gift. Then when we were staying with them in July I took he and his wife to Costco to stock them up and get food and snacks for a vacation we were all taking together. So in one calendar year two 30 packs of toilet paper from Costco and they still have 8 rolls left.

Apparently some people think that they need to have enough toilet paper to last a family the size of the Duggars for the next several years. I truly hope all stores institute a no return policy on toilet paper, paper towels, bottled water and hand sanitizer. If they don't it will all probably have to be thrown out for health safety reasons. Good times for the dumpster divers. Lol.

still don't understand it.
I don't need TP but couldn't help but notice the empty aisles in Kroger this past weekend

damn, I did not stock enough paper towels for the number of times I have laughed with beverage onboard... I live alone, nobody harmed by my spit-up, completely safe...

yes, keep it going, folks, I'm loving this. I guess I am glad people went nuts on TP so we do have something to joke about.

I talked to a stock-person about the grocery shelves being so empty
-- O.J., milk, cheese, bread, water --
Even the blackberry-lemonade was in short supply.
He said they get a truck load every night, and hoarders show up the next day.

No TP available for online ordering. Sigh. We did not stock up but should have enough to last for the next 2 to 3 months. Hopefully the hoarding madness is cured by then and TP will be on the shelves again.

You have 3 months supply of TP and you're calling others hoarders? Hello kettle! :)
Does it count if a big brick is about a 4 month supply in your house? And yes we were running low a couple of weeks ago and bought a new supply. I am good until about august.

Good point. A Costco Brick can last me many months as well.

For all of you worried...from Today’s Wall St. Journal:

Relax, America: The U.S. Has Plenty of Toilet Paper
Factories are flush with bathroom tissue, but large manufacturers say the problem is getting it to stores
U.S. toilet-paper sales were up 60% for the week ended March 7, compared with the same period a year ago.

America can spare a square.

Jittery shoppers across the country are clearing shelves of bathroom tissue as coronavirus keeps people home and threatens to force more Americans into quarantine. But toilet paper—unlike some other high-demand items such as hand sanitizer and face masks—remains plentiful, according to the two biggest manufacturers.
Charmin maker Procter & Gamble Co. PG +7.87% and Cottonelle maker Kimberly-Clark Corp. KMB +2.93% say they have ramped up toilet-paper production and are able to make enough to meet demand. Kimberly-Clark has started posting pictures of warehouses full of toilet paper in some markets. The problem, the manufacturers say, is getting the product shipped to warehouses and retailers, and then onto store shelves, quickly enough to keep up with sales.
The shopping frenzy stirs memories for some of the global financial crisis, which disrupted the market for, among other things, short-term corporate debt.

“This is literally 2008 played out over toilet paper and not commercial paper,” said Justin Wolfers, a University of Michigan professor of economics and public policy. “As long as I believe you are going to run to Costco and buy toilet paper, I’m going to run. And as long as you believe that I am going to run, you are going to run. Both are rational.”

People are buying extra toilet paper as a safeguard and not using a dramatically larger amount, which distinguishes bathroom tissue from face masks, sanitizer and other cleaners that are being consumed in far greater quantities.

U.S. toilet-paper sales were up 60% for the week ended March 7, compared with the same period a year ago, according to Nielsen. It is a significant jump, but not close to the sales increases for hand sanitizer or aerosol disinfectants, up 470% and 313%, respectively, for that period.

Restocking inventory can take several hours or days as goods work their way from the factory to the warehouse to shelves. The consumer-products industry, including suppliers, manufacturers and retailers, have overhauled supply chains over the past two decades to be more profitable and flexible by keeping limited inventory on hand as opposed to stocked up in warehouses. The more cost-effective system means that when demand spikes unexpectedly, supplies run short.

Toilet paper is relatively easy to make. It is produced in the U.S., involves few materials and doesn’t require parts imported for packaging. U.S. industry sales were roughly $9 billion last year, according to Nielsen.

Kimberly-Clark said it has plans in place to meet increased demand for its products, including faster production and “reallocating inventory.”

A P&G spokesman said toilet-paper shortages are sporadic and generally temporary. He noted that on any given day in P&G’s hometown of Cincinnati, there are stores with plenty of toilet paper and stores completely sold out.

“We have seen some temporary out-of-stocks at some retailers given rapid consumer purchases,” he said. “However we continue to manufacture and ship products to retailers nationwide.”

Sales of toilet paper and other non-perishable, non-consumable goods will likely slow down considerably for a while after the coronavirus situation stabilizes, said Bill Simon, former CEO of Walmart U.S. The purchase frequency for items such as toilet paper is consistent and predictable, he said.

“You don’t use more toilet paper because you have it,” he said. “If you bought three bags of Doritos, you’ll eat them.”
