In 1973 there was a manufactured shortage of oil and rumors flew about other shortages.

Johnny Carson quoted from an obscure newspaper article that there was a possible shortage of toilet paper.
Store shelves were soon bare. I recall seeing only two rolls on a supermarket shelf.
Someone we know ordered two cartons delivered by a department store, G Fox in Hartford,CT.
Subsequently, their basement was flooded and the two cartons of toilet paper were ruined.

My sister in law was at the grocery store today as a man was leaving with three 20 roll packs of toilet paper.

A man coming in stopped and said, "That's what I'm here for. Where did you get them?"
He then rushed to pointed aisle.

I did check our modest toilet paper supply today. Maybe we could use more.

That's funny, two pallets.

It might be better than gold.

Don't keep it in a damp basement.

Entrepreneurship by any other name.

One man was caught trying to flog packets of toilet paper for $2,000 after listing them on Gumtree and demanding desperate customers pay cash only.
He's not the only one to attempt to make money from the toilet paper shortage. Others have listed single sheets, rolls and entire packets online for outrageous prices.
The man's toilet paper scheme comes after supermarkets such as Coles and Woolworths were forced to bring in a four-pack limit to stop people hoarding rolls.

Coronavirus fears see online sales for toilet paper rolls rocket, as some individuals attempt to sell toilet paper for over a thousand dollars.

That is the norm when you travel around Mexico. Often times you have to pay for a couple of single sheets when you use the restroom to a person that has acquired the roll from inside the restroom.

You went to a public restroom in Mexico?! Whoa, no way a little coronavirus is taking you down. I too remember a couple of sheets there.

Every now and again there is a public outcry here (Los Angeles) because folks used to using public potties in Mexico dispose of their toilet paper in the bathroom trash cans because the Mexican plumbing won't accommodate the paper. There will be all sorts of disgust and hand wringing until something bigger comes along to complain about (like homeless pooping on sidewalks) .

40 years ago as poor backpackers my future wife and I toured every state in Mexico via bus and 3rd class train with the farmers, chickens, and goats. We had many shocking surprises but the public toilet memories are the thing that still gives me shivers.

Just let Costco, I arrived at the store at round 9:50 am today. There was a line wrapped around the store passed the delivery docks. I was told shoppers started forming a line at 8am. They sold out TP in the first hour and you were limited to buying 2 carton of water per day.

Friend home in Ottawa posted this from our local grocery store. Canadians aren't subject to media panic.

Folks; Plenty of Toilet Paper and Paper Towels are available on the Costco dot com website.

You won't have to fight the crowds or stand in line. Place your order on line and it will be delivered right to your door in two or three days.

No need to panic! Just a few keystrokes and it is all yours.

Wait until this passes and everyone uses their stash or worse, returns it to Costco :LOL::LOL:.

I was actually thinking of this, own 2 of three biggies. Charmin Bears are part of the PG empire. Scott and Cottonelle are part of KMB. Georgia Pacific makes the rest.

Keep stocking up, folks, keep me flush in dividends...

I remember this from our trip to Egypt eons ago...One of our first trips, after which toilet paper became an item on our packing list depending on our destination!

People have it all wrong. They don’t need toilet paper, they need a ventilator....hmmmm. I wonder if Costco sells that?

I reordered TP from Target Sunday; not due to be delivered for several more days, so seems like their warehouses are lacking.

The Chinese are probably thinking that Americans eat it

I think a couple was seen loading up their cart and everyone else started to also

The part they didn’t know was that the couple live 500 miles out in the middle of nowhere and load up once a year

Now I wish that I stockpiled toilet paper. When the run on toilet paper started I thought it was ridiculous. I get mine from Amazon every 2 months and it covers both our home and our business. It's due to arrive in a few days and of course, Amazon says they are out and will attempt to find some to fill my order. So, I tried ordering from HomeDepot, Smart and Final and Coscto - all show they are out of stock in my area. Local grocery store has zero on the shelf. I have 3 rolls, so hopefully I'll be good for a while...
