I finally gave up and ordered some random not packaged toilet paper off of Amazon. I've wasted close to an hour each day trying to find any online and when I have found some, it says delivery in May.

I'm quickly losing respect for the general population in my area. I went to the store yesterday (first time in over a week) and they hardly had anything. Seriously, no milk!?!?! I don't understand how much food people are planning on going through. Did they not eat before? Are they just going to throw out all that produce and dairy products?

Same here, all the dairy shelves empty, no cheese, lunch meats, hot dogs, etc.

I was able to order tp delivered from Costco, supposed to arrive today, will see if they come through. We are down to 10 rolls, might have to panic shop next week. I haven’t been out much since a week ago last Thursday, only Dr visit and grocery runs.

I will try and restore your faith in people. I am not convinced that the shortages are caused by hoarding. I have seen estimates that Americans eat 30% of their meals in restaurants. In today's business world inventory costs money. Most business' have very expensive software to manage demand and inventory. I do not think grocery stores can meet this kind of demand. If anybody out there works in grocery logistics I would love to have them pipe in. Also it is prudent to increase your order as you do not know how often you can get there. I know my shopping trip almost two weeks ago now was probably double normal as I usually shopped twice a week and was now planning on once. I do not believe my behavior was bad, but did also temporarily increase demand. Now TP may be a different dynamic on the consumer side but again I would love to know how much above modeled daily sales the grocery store has on hand.

The severe shortage of certain products (discussed recently) should resolve itself within a few weeks for any number of reasons such as:

1). People won't venture out to stores due to fear.

2). Folks will run out of money due to being out of work.

3). Plenty of shipments in the pipeline now to fill store shelves.

4). Those that already have 100 rolls of toilet paper don't need or want anymore.

5). The Government imposes a stay at home quarantine.

6). The USA financial system collapses and only cash accepted for purchases.

7). Government imposed rationing of certain products.

Let's hope things get better soon.....

Let's hope not! Our local Facebook is reporting lines at banks and withdrawals limited to $1000 per day. We aren't venturing out to a bank soon, but do need to deposit the $275 check Mom wrote me for groceries yesterday -- and I'm thinking to cash that instead.

We don't keep cash and don't bother with any withdrawals. People who go and withdraw large amounts of cash are insane. Credit cards will always be available. This is not the third world war.
I rarely have any cash. When we‘re on a trip and need to tip the valet or bellhop, I always have to rely on my wife to have some. I just never use cash but she always wants to have a few bucks just in case. She comes in handy every now and then. :) That’s why we’ve been married for 47 years now.

Too funny. The WSJ has a small article today that some stores and businesses were refusing to accept cash because of the fear of getting COVID-19 from the dirty $$$ :p .

Like the young people who go around licking ice cream at the store, put container back on and place it back on the shelf. This was way before the virus took over. There is also a video going around on FB. A young man is shown on a train (not sure where/I tried to read the advertisement over his head) taking off his mask, licking his fingers and then wiping the pole. People are sick.

We wash with soap and water all of our vegetables and fruits. Now the last two weeks (using gloves a few times from leaving the house to back home), we wipe down every item bought with lysol wipes. We also leave our shoes by the door and wash clothes right away. Wether or not we are overdoing it......just trying to do what we can besides staying home.

Definitely no paper goods here - I guess TP is a necessity if locked in. There is always water :).

after the state and local police investigation of the teenager's facebook activities

"The investigation concluded the teenagers did not actually cough or spit on customers or the produce
while filming it on their phones," police said."

.... a prank viral video that upset many people causing mass panic on social media

these strange pandemic times

I have a husband who buys stuff for projects at home and then never does the project. He purchased a bidet toilet seat a couple years ago and it's been buried in the garage. It is now attached to his toilet! The seat heats and the water heats. I told him I'll probably never see him again and he said at least I'll always know where he is now. :giggle:

I do have the standard $200 I take out before a trip. If you've ever been caught on Empty in the Smokies past 8 pm, you know you had better have cash when you glimpse neon. There are also places I have had to fuel that I would not want to use a credit or debit card because it seemed sketchy.

"not because they’re making more trips to the bathroom, but because they’re making more of them at home. With some 75% of the U.S. population under stay-at-home orders, Americans are no longer using the restrooms at their workplace, in schools, at restaurants, at hotels, or in airports."

not sure I completely buy into that argument, the TP shortage occurred in a very short time at the beginning

My DH said our little market had TP this week but we do not need any more so he did not buy it. He did bring home one roll of paper towels. That’s something else that has been hard to get. We shop at a little local market where few people go. They have plastic protectors up for the cashiers and tape on the floor so people stay 6’ apart. Still, no guarantees.

I think hoarding caused the original shortages. But that should have been one and done when the supply chain responded.

Otherwise, the issues in the article are real. You can't immediately switch from institutional market to consumer market. What should happen, though, is that retailers such as Costco, should start receiving from the institutional supply chain. I don't get out so, I can't say whether or not that is happening to any degree.
