Strike at HHV started today, 9/24

Well the sounds of silence. We certainly know that the strike is over today. There is NO noise from the chanting and drum playing. I just hope Local 5 got enough of what they wanted to vote for the end of the strike tomorrow.
We'll find out soon.

When I open the Google app on my phone, it "suggests" things to read based on my search history. I actually like this as I've found a number of interesting things (and routinely forget what I went to search for in the first place :)).

In a recent one, there was an article from a Hawaii paper suggesting that this strike will likely lead to more at other hotels in the area. So, it may be done, or nearly so, at HHV, but this may just be the beginning for Oahu and Hawaii. Let's hope that, if the Hilton agreements go through, they can serve as a model for the other hotels.

Cheers.

I read the same or at least similar article. I know that has been common in other labor negotiations. The latest agreement a major player sets the baseline for other agreements. I have not heard of any progress on the similar strikes in other mainland cities. Though the news cycles seem to be dominated by another topic recently....

Other properties will be offered the HHV contract as a starting point and those that discuss finer points are likely to avoid a strike, but any property trying to negotiate substantially lower is likely to have a strike called.

Let’s get back to the original topic.
