Resorts Owned
Marriot Oceanwatch Myrtle Beach
I have a Marriott Vacation Club timeshare that my wife and I purchased in 2008. We have decided that we really do not use it much any longer and the fees have gotten too costly for us. We would like to get something for it and not just deed it back to Marriott.

In 2008 we bought a week and, I cannot remember which year, we enrolled in the club points. So we now use club points which we really liked because you do not have to use a full week. Is there anyone with Marriott experience on selling this particular type of timeshare. One that has enrolled points. Any info is appreciated

Unfortunately the points option will not transfer to a new owner, unless you gift it to a child.

If you want to try to sell it yourself, look at redweek.com to get a sense of current asking prices. Understand they are only asking prices and even those that are marked as “sold” may have sold for less. The other option is to find a resale broker, including the option to have redweek.com handle it for you. What ever you do don’t pay anyone up front. That arrangement is a scam.

It may help if you list exactly what resort, season, unit size, view and whether it’s an annual or every other year unit, so we can provide other helpful suggestions. I assume you don’t have a loan on it given when you purchased, but if you do have a loan it has to be paid off before you can sell it.

Take a look on Redweek and eBay to see what units like yours (that is, same size, resort, season).

Most (all but eight) Marriott timeshares have a ROFR. So, if you line up a buyer and the sales price is low, Marriott may jump in and buy it. But as a seller at least you'll be done with the unit.

Curious which 8 if you don’t mind. I’m in the market to buy a Marriott week.

I think that if you google it, you'll find the eight. The only one that I remember is Marriott Desert Springs Villas 1. No ROFR.

Marriott's Monarch on Hilton Head Island is one of the eight without ROFR.

Summit Watch "used to be without ROFR" but that has since changed and they now do have ROFR. Not sure how ROFR ever got snuck in after the fact......

.

Thanks for all the responses. So to get this stratight I can only sell my week and not based on the points? I get 1400 points per year which can banked and borrowed. Has anyone used Redweek to sell their timeshare?

Also we own Marriot Oceanwatch in Myrtle Beach

Yes, if you sell your week to someone who is not a family member, the benefits of being able to elect for club points do not transfer with sale.
All the person gets is the original week and the ability to book within the season that is owned. They can then rent that out or exchange it in II, but not use Abound, unless they buy more direct from MVC to enroll it.

Unfortunately, at 1,400 points, you don't have a Platinum week. Maybe Gold? Reality is that the value of a non season resale week is going to be very low. You can check in on the Marriott board for more advice, but it may be best just to surrender to Marriott to stop the fee.

I used Redweek full service to **buy** my MGC timeshare. I have no complaints with how it went.

Thanks again. I kind of figured it wasn't worth much. It is a tough decision for us because we have been trying to get to Newport Beach Marriott in California for some time and found a date that would work for us. I also saw the cost of the room per night there would be much more than the points we have. For info here is what I own:

Did you look at exchanging into NCV via II, that seems to work OK for many people, even with low season weeks.

I will have to look into that but already exhanged my week for club points

You can log on to your II account and do dummy searches against the 2026 line under My units then vacation search, entering a fake reservation number and check-in date and then search for what is available. Once you are in the 2026 reservation window, you can book your week and then do a request first in II for when you want to go to NCV.

I was just looking at this thread as I am looking to sell my unit at DSV I, which is one of the resorts without ROFR. When I purchased, I was following the guidance about buying somewhere I would enjoy that was within driving distance. I am also a huge tennis fan, so I always reserved for the first week of the tennis tournament. It has worked well for me, but now I am looking to move out of state. I currently have a reservation with check in on March 6th, so if there is a tennis fan out there interested in buying and taking advantage of the 2025 usage week, reach out and let me know. In the meantime, happy holidays to all!

I just posted regarding my week that I am putting on the market. Feel free to reach out if you are interested or would like more info.
