changed my mind about this post :)

You do realize that it has 18g sugar, right? This is way too high for most adults.

There is 45 grams of sugar in my mostly daily Pepsi with lunch for 40+ years. I ... do ... not ... care at my age. Same with butter and my daily heavy cream in my morning coffee.

Life is made to be enjoyed -- on my terms. I definitely do not want to live to be 80+ and endure all the associated difficulties.

I am 80 plus. I had cancer in my mouth I ended up with five surgeries. I don’t even want to tell you what was done to me.
I was on clear liquids for a month and then after the last surgery could not swallow . Radiation caused burns on my mouth and for four months I was on a liquid diet. I could barely swallow a protein drink a day
I had to learn to eat again and it is not easy to eat
I decided I would eat what I want and could and what I enjoy.
I inadvertently ate some crushed pineapple mixed in at a pot luck. For four days my tongue was so swollen and I had welts all over my mouth so not much intake that week
If I eat a hamburger or a sandwich I have to cut into pieces
I have no scientific basis for this but it seems if you make it to 80 you keep going. I have friends into their mid nineties that live regular very busy lives and are totally self sufficient.

Statistically, you are running a bit low on the cholesterol. Below 140 causes the cancer risk to start elevating.
Let's be careful about saying "causes" vs. "is related to." "Correlation is not causation" is a basic tenet of statistics.

Here's a 2012 research study appearing on the American College of Cardiology site with some language I'm quoting below.

"Dr. Lavigne cautions the current study does not suggest that having low LDL-C somehow leads to the development of cancer. He recommended that patients diagnosed with high LDL-C should adhere to cholesterol-lowering guidelines, including the use of medications, to prevent heart disease.

“There is no evidence to indicate that lowering your cholesterol with a medication in any way predisposes to a risk for cancer. We suspect there may be some underlying mechanism affecting both cancer and low LDL-C, but we can only say definitively that the relationship between the two exists for many years prior to cancer diagnosis, and therefore underscores the need for further examination,” Dr. Lavigne said."

I am not a medical doctor, a registered dietician, or a nutritionist, but I doubt if other posters on this thread are either. Some of the advice being handed out distresses me, so I am not going to read this material anymore.
Best wishes to all for a long, healthy, and happy life.

I think I have finally decided that next September 31, 2027 will be my retirement date, by that point my SS will have hit the dollar amount I want and it will give me one more solid year to sock away the max in my 401K Roth Accounts.

I had a bad car accident during a business trip and now have 3 herniated discs + Whiplash in my neck. The accident happened on March 25 and I am still in a lot of pain. Workmans Comp is taking care of all the bills but the pain is still severe.

We get our bonus paid out in August ever year and you have to be on payroll to get the bonus, thus the reason I am leaving in September of 2027. We downsized in 2022 from a 4,000 sq ft home with a 1/2 acre lot to a small condo and that has saved us so much money. We are looking to purchase a small condo / house in a warm climate ( Florida, Arizona, Nevada) for the winter months as I do not do snow... this past winter ( live in Michigan ) was the worst ever in the last 8 years, we had back to back days of 6 inches of snow and it was still snowing in April.

The bulk of every current paycheck goes to 401K --- I'm currently contributing 42% of my salary - ( we have a mega backdoor roth 401K plan at work) so I should be ok in retirement but I worry about everthing...

Paid off Car, Paid off Condo in MI ( just taxes + utilities + HOA ), pay off my Credit Cards every month to get the points or air miles. I'm a finance person so my spreadsheets tell me my money will last me to age 96, so I should be good to go next year...

I worked for BCBS and jumped when they offered early retirement. I was 56 my husband 63, he retired 6 mo after I did. That was 10 years ago! Shortly after we retired my mother had a major health issue and I was able to bring her to our home and care for her for 2 years before she passed. We later became snow birds and eventually purchased a second home in 55+ community in Daytona Beach. It's is a golf cart community and there is something going on all the time including live music every day! You can do as much or as little as you choose! We often reflect on how lucky we are when we think of family and friends that never made it to retirement or died shortly after. We have many friends and family holding out on retirement because of the high cost of health insurance. I was so very lucky to have health insurance benefits for the two of us as a part of my retirement package in addition to my pension and 401K. I think the days of pensions and health insurance in retirement are fading fast. We have 2 family members that are retired teachers and their cost of insurance as retirees was shocking to them.
@Kat05 , this is what we want to do, purchase a 2nd home in a golf cart community and stay socially active...

We are visiting the following places in June:

On Top of the World (ocala)
Village of Citrus Hills (north of Tampa)
Babcock Ranch (North of Ft Meyers)
Del Webb Naples
Minto Margaritaville Watersound (Panama City Beach area)

We might also visit a Del Webb near Charlotte, as we will be there for a long weekend in a couple of weeks.

Hopefully, we will have an idea of where we want to be or where we don't want to be after the trip in June.
@joestein, We have been going to Naples for the past 15 years and love that area, Del Webb Naples is simply amazing and its so beautiful there...

Thank you!

I know many who boast about their income and wealth, but never heard of IRMA, RMD, and lots of other terms. They are unaware of benefits of Florida residency.
IRMA is my biggest worry in retirement, you do not want togo over that limit by even one penny or you jump up to much higher Medicare fees...

I expressed myself poorly. I was noting correlations, not causality.

One of many reasons for converting standard 401Ks/IRAs to Roths along the way, long before retirement. Money coming out of a Roth doesn't count as taxable income, which means it doesn't affect the IRMA test amount for the higher brackets.

We were in Charlotte over a 4 day weekend. While the main purpose of our visit was to see family and go to the Cheerwine Festival in Salsbury, we did stop and look at Del Webb Riverside in Belmont, NC.

While we like one of the models very much, we did not care for the community itself. It was block after block of homes with no nature or even artficial features (like lakes) between them. It was a like a retirement concrete jungle.

When I saw the site map for Del Webb Naples - it looks much more laid out with spacing of tree or lakes or both between the streets. Much more what I am looking for.

Looking forward to seeing that. My wife and I do like the Renown layout very much.

Brookdale my local community college is having a 2 week course about this, but sadly one week is the week I will be in Florida visiting retirement community. Otherwise I would go.

I am doing 49% of my annual salary, mostly Roth contributions to a 403b and 457b.

My math says I can retire at 61.5 years old, Jan 1 2028.

Me neither. Now I kind of wonder what pineapple juice would taste like in Crown Royal.

Bill
Ew! Don’t do it!

A neighbor enjoys brandy, stocks all the flavors. Gave a bottle of pineapple brandy to neighbor who said she was going to mix it with pineapple Faygo. 🤮
