Peloton App Question?

Have a decent spin bike. Not A Peloton.

If I get the app on my tablet is the music streamed in stereo?
Streamed in stereo? I mean, doesn't that mean multiple speakers? Is other music on your tablet streamed in stereo?

Both Laura and I have the bikes...I truly love mine! Been working 4 or 5 days, 10-12 hours, with 1 day off. So yesterday, I was not up for a class, but did a couple of scenic rides and slept great!

I considered going the economy route and purchasing a less expensive bike and then adding the app. No regrets about getting this bike. It is terrific!
When I test rode it at the store, the sales kid (haha) suggested using the bluetooth feature to connect a wireless speaker for a surround sound experience. I think that would work for you as well.

Also, I am getting a connector for HDMI to connect my iPad to my TV to use the app for the yoga and strength classes - just personal preference.

Hope this gives you some ideas on how you can tailor the technology for you! Ride on!

@Snazzylass Every time I ride I check to see if you are on the bike at the same time you are. If you have a Roku , Firestick, etc (or a Smart TV) you can use the app on your TV that way (vs connecting via an HDMI).

I have used the app w/o the bike a few times...When I traveled, I used the app to do some workouts using free weights at hotel gyms. Also, I'm self-quarantining at the moment so no going to the gym for me . In the meantime, I have been using the app on my Roku do some body weight workouts .

I have also streamed the app on my wireless speakers and the sound is just like any other music you'd stream.

Thank you, Laura! Great points! I look for you, too!

Yes, you are correct and thanks for mentioning those other methods (which I don't have ...haha) I do have a Smart TV and LOVE my TV. It rode in the back seat (with my road bike on the back of my car) when I moved out here. Unfortunately when I bought it, the wireless feature seemed unnecessary. Thus, the need to buy a connector.

I was super impressed with one yoga class. The instructor is a gal who I have on a DVD for my Pilates workout. Not sure how old the DVD is, but she has developed some serious guns!

Son1 was super impressed that we had used the camera feature :) Next time, I'll have my glasses nearby so I can see what I'm doing:LOL:

And I'm @DePauwNotDePaul

Maybe we are going to need a TUG hashtag if we keep up this momentum.

I have only had one Peloton complaint since I got my bike. I did a live ride last Monday w/Alex and Tunde, which was excited about. However - they did not tell us in advance that the music was all Beyonce. I'm not a fan.

So I just went ahead and downloaded the app. First Month free.
Yes it does stream in stereo.

Back in Sept I purchased an inspire fitness bike at Costco.
Inspire has a similar app with classes. What I found was the instructor was recorded of livetime speaking with the background music.

The music sounded muted and flat.

If you have ever taken live spin classes its all about the beat and the rhythm of the music. I was not fully engaged.

The peloton app is a rich experience with music streamed in stereo fidelity and the voice over like a live DJ.

So the answer is yes.

From here on out its the Peloton App without the cost of a $2000 machine. I'm sure the Peloton is a good piece of equipment that costs less than $1000 manufacture in China. Markup is steep.

Sort of like paying full freight for a timeshare. The app is $12.99 / month.

Are you able to get your bike metrics (eg output) to coordinate w/the Peloton app?

Hi Billy Mach, I did a quick chat on the Peloton site and they confirmed that the music will stream in stereo from the app. I used blue tooth headphones when I ride my bike (Peloton bike) and the sound is very good. I have also used the app through the roku device on my tv but using the TV speakers which aren't great so I couldn't tell. Its an awesome app!

Cornell and Snazzylass, haven't caught you on a ride yet, but I'm riding just about every day. I'm doing the Power Zones program with Matt Wilpers and I highly recommend it if you want to build your performance. The program takes you through learning about all 7 Power Zones and learning what your personal output level should be at each zone (although that is determined through the FTP tests which this program builds up to). I'm amazed at how much my stamina for longer and more difficult rides has improved in a month. Not bad for a "60's aged guy". Keep riding.

I've also been doing the sleep meditation program on my phone/ iPad at night. Very good and easy 5-10 minute mediation each night to help fall asleep, if you haven't tried it.

Interesting that the app is only $12.99/ month vs. the "membership" that is $39/ month. The app is a good deal if you don't have the bike. Enjoy and "friend us" if you can do that (I think you can as the instructors do sometimes refer to "on demand" riders.

Have not tried. But I doubt it. Those are probably built in proprietary features. I could live without. So long as I get good music. Notice the Instructors on Peloton are very engaging as well. My goal is 50 min ride burn 600 calories. Used to go to LA Fitness loved it.

Will look out for y'all. Thanks!

And as you said -- it's so much about the music.

See you soon! And drop your Peloton handle.

There are lots of Peloton app users who don't use the Peloton bike. There's a facebook group for them too.

The bike is not all that special compared to other high end spin bikes (which all cost around $2k). The things you will lose by using a non-peloton bike are:
- seeing your heart rate on the screen (but quality spin bikes should have something for that)
- a power meter for powerzone training (again, quality spin bikes will have an option for that)
- video chat with other peloton users while you ride (but you can use a phone or tablet for that)
- auto resistance (only the new peloton bike+ has that, so lots of us peloton owners don't have it)
- the scenic rides (but IMO they aren't that great)
- the Peloton leaderboard, which can be motivational for some people (it ranks the riders by their output so you can find someone near your output and 'chase' them to try to beat them)

That leaderboard is a big part of the 'community' people talk about with peloton. It's very motivational for a lot of people. But there are also people who dislike it or who don't need it. And there's plenty of community in the facebook groups for peloton users.

Enjoy!

I just use the app on my phone since I use my bike on a trainer in the garage. I would like to get a cadence sensor to use. If anyone has the Sapphire Reserve card they are offering to pay up to $120 in costs.

Please explain? I have the Sapphire Reserve card?
What cost will they reimburse?

Yeah, don't have the card. My Fin Ad has been trying to encourage me for years to get it...so, do tell!

I had a computer on my road bike years ago that had cadence and a heart monitor. I'm sure you will be able to rig something up!

Well, congrats! I looked at the Costco bike, but frankly I was just kidding myself. I need another DIY project...NOT!

Absolutely no regret about my purchase. And, I'll be honest, I purchased my T/S from the developer 20 years ago and no regrets about that. I was already intimately familiar with RCI. My purchase at the time was a bargain and still is. I knew how to maximize my purchase, and boy, did I!

I am somebody who took spinning classes back when they first added these bikes in gyms. My instructor was a demon and I loved him. Over time, music and such was added. My fav were the black lights...do they still do that? Last time I took a class was about 10 years ago.

I think I'd like to get some laser lights or something to add to my ride experience. ;)

LOL, s CC, ounds like you will have a real Spin "studio" set up soon! We put our new bike in a bedroom that we use as an office (one of the kids old rooms). Having the bike in a convenient spot (just across the hall from our bedroom) makes a huge difference in my wife's motivation to ride often! The only extra thing we added was a small fan to point at the bike while we ride. It makes a big difference!

I'm actively house hunting & "where will the Peloton go?" is a big discussion w/potential homes :)

If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Preferred card log into your account and go under benefits and it will tell you how to sign up and what the maximum credit is. I think all you need to do is under your account in the app add the chase card as your payment method.

Excellent! Thanks so much! I will take advantage of that offer for sure!

For the moment... I might change my handle but I am using wingmanF14. wingman was taken already. I will look out for you all. But I tend to stick to the on demand classes. Don't like being tied to a schedule.
