Our westgate experiences have been good

Do you know who is credited with saying that, only not as polite as spitting, for surrounding himself with adversaries as advisors?

it's coming from somebody inside the tent spitting out, not outside the tent spitting in.

A typical Wastegate move

I have been an owner at WVV since 1987 and love the resort. We've had a few "kinks" over the years trading, banking, etc. This year I used my week at Westgate VV and was shocked to have to pay an "upgrade" fee. I expected to pay the exchange fee but was told that the week I have, which I bought as a "red time" week (as classified by the resort and exchange company back in 1987), is now a "value" week. What's happened here? The company changed the value of my week without any notification. I spoke with the resort reps and the main office of CFI and got nowhere. Apparently, they spoke of the change in the resort newspaper, but the owners were never notified. If it had not been for people like myself, Westgate would not be where it is today. I feel as though a "bait and switch" was done to all the early owners. They've explained the growth through the years and the reason for the changes, but it doesn't sit right with me. Does CFI need an extra $500 (upgrade fee) that bad?? This is my home resort.
Anyone aware of this? Is it legal? I feel like I should pursue it further, but don't know how to go about it.

This is one of the far too many examples that Wastegate will find a way to screw owners eventually - even if those owners have been happy as things have been. Wastegate makes unilateral changes that negatively impact owners, won't answer questions, won't notify anyone and may not even have a legal basis to make the change. There is no true owner representation as the Wastegate Developer has not, as required by Florida timeshare law, turned control over to owner on the HOA Boards.

Who do we complain to? Who represents us mere owners? There are no answers, yet. Hopefully as more and more owners wake up to the issues the State will step in as they are about the only thing the King and his Weasels fear. They hold the power to shut down sales - the ONLY thing that matters at Wastegate.

Reading back through, just for nostalgia value ;) , it occurs to me that I loved the movie Groundhog Day. It is a comedy . . . remember . . . and quite funny . . . as is the exploits of Mr. S . . . of course, only in a sick, black sorta funny, as opposed to Bill Murray's funny sorta funny.

But, yes, WG has played out the same old same old day in and day out since it's inception, ala Groundhog Day.

It had to happen eventually. . . now WG is attacking the Branson Market, whole hog (Groundhog ;) ). The airways are filled with their $39 vacation special to Branson, three days and two nights, including another Bonus Vacation. Gosh, I wonder where those Bonus Vacations might be to?

They are playing up their presence in Branson Landing, the only timeshare allowed there, in the media ads.

Everything I have heard about the sales market in Branson--timeshares, nightly rental condos, etc.--indicates things are not going well, entire staffs being called in and let go. There's beaucoup projects going after less than beaucoup prospects and in these lean times the lean seem to be getting leaner.

I bet the sale of antacids is up! ;)

As for the latest, mentioned here, when we speak of nickel and diming and Mr. S' Cash Cow, this is what we mean. If there is a way for Mr. S to squeeze another penny out of his captives, he has or will find a way to do it.

Sure, we get tired of listing all of them, and there have many examples like this, cleaning fees, special assessments, transfer fees, upgrade fees, a claim on sales commissions, fee fees, fee fee fees. When you plunk down your money you are signing on to seemingly endless access to your $$$.

If he ever pays Ms. Myers his sexual harassment judgement, you can bet it will be from some fee charged owners. After all, it is just another expense of doing business.

And, no, you really have no recourse as long as you go along with it. Like us, I'm sure many have bailed just to stop the bleeding.

I don't know for sure but I assume the author -- or best known user -- of that colorful phrase is President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

As for keeping it polite, I always try to do that on TUG-BBS. (Nearly always, anyhow. So it goes.)

Supposedly, when asked why he appointed adversaries to his Cabinet, Abraham Lincoln answered, "I would rather have them inside the tent ----ing out than outside ----ing in."

Perhaps Lincoln was attributed with it because of this comment on page 13:

But, yes, it is commonly attributed to LBJ, talking that about J. Edagr Hoover:

I have posted on this in the past, but just to reiterate, this happened to us as well. We didn't receive any prior notification and yes, the unit was also sold to us as a red week etc. We didn't even receive a Westgator newsletter - that petered out a long time ago even though I told them and they checked they had the correct address. I tried to argue with them about it but it was pretty hopeless.
