I just found this site after myself and my spouse purchased a timeshare/vacation share with Sapphire Resorts just a little over a year ago. We are well past the opt-out period and have paid for our timeshare in full. We basically felt like we were lied to by the selling agent, but shame on us for not doing our homework. The company was obviously no help, just stating we can purchase a better timeshare package. The package they sold us is something we can not even utilize. We need help and advice. We have thought about not paying our assessment fee of $275.00 this year and just walking away from it and taking a loss. Is this smart? Can they send us to collections? What are your experiences?
We also thought about selling or even giving it away? How do we go about this? Can anyone help?

Are the Sapphire resorts in RCI? Are you points or fixed week? If you are like most of us when we were new owners you are probably having a very hard time figuring out what you own and how to use it. It probably has more potential than you are realizing. If you've spent the money keep it and learn how to use it.

Yes we have access to RCI. Our actual vacation package is a point system of 5000 a year we can use and can be rolled over for 1 year. So at most we will be 10,000 points before 5000 drops off. This already limits us to places we can go with acutal resorts. Also we are limited to booking ALL trips less than 30 days in advance which we can't use due to our jobs. Any advice on how to get out of this? Sell this? Give it away? Or if we stop paying yearly assessments do you know what could happen?

Did you know that you can borrow and rent points? Could you use your week at your home resort instead of the points?

RCI has so many great sales that you can get weeks for $229-$269 with no points needed.

Again I think you are giving up too easily before you've really tried actually using it.

Hard to tell by their website but it appears to me that Sapphire Resorts is a club membership and that the OP doesn't own anything.

In the (mostly quite lame) discussion forums on RedWeek.com, there are extensive postings about "Sapphire". Virtually all of those posts are by disgruntled "members" who find their Sapphire "membership" to be (literally) impossible to actually use and therefore essentially completely worthless.
Many of them openly (and angrily) assert that "Sapphire" is nothing more than a thinly veiled outright scam.

Personally, I've never before even heard of "Sapphire", nor do I know if the Sapphire mentioned by the OP and the Sapphire being routinely lambasted on RedWeek are even one and the same entity. In any event, I'm guessing this particular "product" can neither be sold nor even given away for free.

I looked at the list of the Sapphire resorts and there are six just here in Florida. There are two in Destin, one in Delray Beach, one in Kissimmee, one in Jensen's Beach and one in Mulberry. There seemed to be a decent selection of resorts in varying locations around the Country. I've seen many of Sapphire resorts with availability on RCI.

Several of the resorts here in Florida must have been taken over by Sapphire in the last year or two as I remember them having been part of a different group.

The person could pay the extra to be RCI platinum and that would allow them four years to use the points.

I suggest you call RCI and ask a live person (it can take a while to get one on the phone) whether you HAVE to book through Sapphire, or if you can enter a direct exchange. At the presentation I sat through last week, I think I heard it said that one could book further out than 30 days. I could be wrong, of course, and it could also have been a bald-faced lie on the presenter's part.
