I read on a investor report by an executive that Marriott has big plans for Hyatt. I can’t find the link online. Does anyone else have it?

Well, this may not be what you remember because it is somewhat the opposite. This is the transcript of an Investor Relations presentation at the Goldman Sachs Leisure Conference on June 7, 2019. It appears the VAC (Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation) acquisition of ILG (Interval Leisure Group) triggered a change in control event between ILG and Hyatt. This is requiring VAC to negotiate licensure with Hyatt over the continued use of the Hyatt name prior to doing anything with the Hyatt-branded properties.

"We are continuing discussions with Hyatt about the continuation of the license agreement there. You may recall that Hyatt sold the Hyatt Vacation Ownership business to ILG back in 2014. There was a change-of-control provision that was in place. It got triggered when we acquired ILG. We have been making great progress in terms of those negotiations. We hope to finalize those here in the very near term."

I think what I read was from April. This makes me wonder if they could rebrand Hyatt Acquired timeshares within MVC families.

Posible, but Hyatt probably likes that revenue stream, which is pretty much free money.

I was just in Westin Playa Conchal. I heard in 2020 or 2021, they’re doing major renovations to the Royal Beach Club where we stayed and moving it up the hill so every room and suite has an ocean view. They are moving the family club to where the Royal Club is now. It sounds incredible. That is a top rated beach in Costa Rica, It was so beautiful, clear warm and clean. I would love to a stay night after the Renovations. I wonder if Marriott might either acquire Hyatt hotels or rebrand the Hyatts as Westins. Hyatts may be a step above Westin but I see Westin hotels going luxury. Here and in Madrid, some of the best hotels are Westins. The Westin Place is a Very prestigious hotel in Madrid, where I stayed a night on points. All the Westins in major cities are about a 4.5 star or so, some even 5s.

The W on the other side of the Westin Playa Conchal just opened in Nov 2018. We drove over to see it but I did not go in since it was quite unattractive compared to the Westin side that felt like a luxurious sprawling resort with golf carts to take you anywhere on property. I learned The W guests have their own spa and pool but the Westin guests can visit the W. The W guests can’t use the gorgeous Westin spa. That big red W just raised my blood pressure. It’s the same Virgin Cruiselines crowd. Young hip and loves red, loud music and sensory overload. We met some 30 somethings (millennials) staying at the W on one of our excursions to go river rafting. They were beautiful and very hip indeed.
