Yesterday I received a call from an acquaintance who had bought a new Shelby Mustang 500 GT at 78 years young and had decided to sell his Towncar. I had missed out on one last year because I waited too long to answer and here was another chance. This Town Car is a 2010 Continental Edition in almost new condition with about 43,000 miles on it. Ron had put new tires on it 5000 miles ago. Anyway, I did buy it for very little and it drives like a dream. I might tweak it but this car was made for cruising so I'm leaning to keeping it a cruiser.

While I was getting this car Ron's buddy showed up in a new Corvette. Ron's buddy is 80 years young and the two of them were going to go out to some car event to show off their rides.

That's a hoot. Glad those guys are enjoying themselves. And great that you finally got your Towncar. I knew you'd been after one.

I decided a few months ago that I wanted a "sunny day roadster" for those fun top-down drives here in the desert. So I searched out and bought another Porsche Boxster. I had a 2002 previously that I really liked, but sold it when we were moving down here. I didn't know what to expect, and figured we didn't need three vehicles here. This time around, I wanted a newer car that didn't have the potential engine issues that one did. I ended up with an excellent 2007 model, purchased in Arizona from a place that specializes in higher end cars. Very happy with it.

My oldest son went to Rennsaeler Polytech...one of his professors was one of the "lost planet airmen". He emailed me one day to tell me that and to ask if i ever heard of them and i sent him this:


At the time my son was driving my lincoln continental which really was a hot rod in its time with the 24valve v8 driving the front wheels and a driver adjustable suspension...

I always thought that a Lincoln Town Car (BIG honkin' V8, rear drive sedan) and a Lincoln Continental (front drive V6 large, mid-size sedan) were 2 different critters. Am I mistaken?

Still, I gotta think that the 2 80 y.o. dudes cruising with a late model Shelby & a new 'Vette would be WAAAAY COOL!

There were a number of years that the continental (4 door)had the HO V8 transverse mounted to front wheel drive. The Mark(2 door) was rear rear wheel drive with the same motor. Not sure what motor was in the town car. Then there were a few years wher they produced the Continental town car...not sure what went into that.

A few years i met a guy who must be in that age range by now. We were camping side by side in Watkins Glen during a Nascar race. He was from western Canada. He was in the process of building an "original" Ford GT40(from the Ford vs Ferrari era/movie). He had to source everything from specific vendors from accross the world in order to achieve his goal. A couple of years ago he sent pictures of the completed project...pulled over on the hiway by the police...not for a ticket...they wanted a look see! It is registered and titled properly...not a copy, a hand built original.

Yes, it does have a 4.6 liter V8 but Ron said he got between 23 -26 mpg on the road trips. The interior seats are very big and comfortable. The only update I have planned for a soon as thing is the entertainment center. I plan on a big screen with gps, bluetooth, cameras and xm. Maybe next year some Craiger Mags and different tires. There are other upgrades and mods for speed but I want to enjoy it the way it is. Ron pretty much gave this away so I have plenty of extra cash to toss at it.

Boys and their toys! I envy your friends and would be happy with either of their rides. I got rid of my 2019 Mustang GT and have been bouncing around trying to find the perfect replacement. Driving a Camry XSE V6 right now that just doesn’t have the get up and go I’ve always liked since I started with my first 64 GTO tri power. There’s a new 22 Mustang GT sitting at my old dealership right now. Going to drop my buddy who is still there a note this morning and see what I can buy it for. I’m not quite as old as your friends but at this stage in life my motto is don’t put off for another day what you can do now.

I might install a performance chip this year. It would be fairly easy. First I have to decide how much I like the Lincoln. So far I haven't really had the chance to do a long day in it but we do have a road trip coming up.

I have never yet had a ride in a Porsch Boxster. It looks like fun. I have had a ride in a Carrea through a twisty river canyon and it was a blast. Anyway, nice Boxster Dave !!

Thanks! The Boxster is a mid-engine car, very evenly balanced, so has almost perfect stability on corners. Very low center of gravity, and it will FLY if you ask it to. With a trunk on either end, it's also a bit of a convenient grocery-getter. ;)

The Towncar reminds me of Highway Patrol cars I've seen (same family as the Ford Victoria, I'd think.) I'll bet it's a fantastic road car.

Yuppers. The Town Car is on the same frame as a Crown Vic and Mercury Marauder. Billy Mach told me these are built on what is called the Panther Platform. The ride is cushy and the seats are like sitting in a lazy boy. It doesn't have cameras yet but does come with a back up alarm that kind of freaked me out first time it went off. I went to license it this morning and was told the car value is far greater than what I paid so I had to pay the higher value tax rate. I said that can't be right but they showed me the RCW that they have to go by.
