My hot rod Lincoln

I went to license it this morning and was told the car value is far greater than what I paid so I had to pay the higher value tax rate. I said that can't be right but they showed me the RCW that they have to go by.

Bill

I'd just factor in that extra to the price you paid for the car. It still sounds like you're money ahead.

Yup. That's what I think. It's just kind of interesting that the state would impose a "true value tax" instead of using the actual cost. I asked what if I had bought this car from a dealer and it's kind of funny that the lady said I would have likely paid way more tax than the state valued tax. There is no good way out. Even more odd is I gave my son one of my motorcycles this spring and told the licensing person that there was no money exchange, it was a gifted. There was no sales tax on this.

My recollection is Washington has no sales taxes on gifts, so that's likely why your son wasn't charged. But any other purchase involves giving the State their blood money. When you think about it, the person who sold you the car probably already paid sales taxes when they bought it. So collecting taxes on it again seems kind of underhanded. Then to assign a value to it based on what THEY think it's worth, rather than what you actually paid, just throws salt into the wound.

The dealership where I bought the Porsche in Arizona required me to pay sales taxes, even though I was taking the car out of state. They said if I'd bought it online and had it delivered, I wouldn't have had to pay any taxes on it. But since I was driving it away, there were taxes charged. Then, when I got to Nevada with it, the DMV said the car was worth a certain amount, so charged me registration fees based on their assessed value. But they did not charge me sales tax, since I bought it out of state.

Either way, it's a money grab.

Fellow Volunteer of mine at the National Museum of the USAF Is 84 and comes to work in his IROC Z Camaro. Classic red and stick shift.

Myself, I have an Amphibian Aircraft kit on order having earned my Seaplane Rating last year at 79. Aircraft may be less practical but lots more fun for me than cars.

For us, Michigan only allows no tax gifts between close relatives, with proven relationship for car purchases, i.e. my sister can buy my car with no taxes but my cousin's child would still pay.

I have been very happy with my 2nd generation Genesis sedan with a direct injection V6. While it is not a sport sedan, it really gives a lot of bang for the buck for a "german" type ride.

My dad was an enthusiast of the Buick and Cadillac cars, I nearly crashed in a Buick LeSabre rental when I took a turn aggressively in that soft suspension. The later Caddies did address the suspension, but I'm still not a fan.

My BIL is a fan of the panther platform and he found a pristine Mercury Marauder and is happy with it. Its nice, but I would have to mod it to make it meet my driving expectations. I would fit it out like a police pursuit cruiser. Stiffer suspension.

My next car is going to be '22 Genesis GV70. While it is not a sport SUV, it will perform adequately for my needs. The twin turbo V6 has more than enough power (375 BHP) and the chassis is based on a rear wheel drive car, but is AWD. Also, it is an 8 speed automatic, not a CVT. Yeah, it would have been better with an 8 speed DCT, but this will do. I would LOVE to see what the Hyundai N-Line team could do to this car, but for me, it's good enough.

Our Town Car looks exactly like this one!

I ended up with a 2010. Like your Continental Edition, mine has the shock upgrade. That was one of the reasons I was looking at 2010 and 2011. I took the Lincoln to Costco to get gas today. Then I went for a little ride. I need a stereo system or some cd's is what I thought.

Easyrider that is one clean Town Car inside and out. Please enjoy it every moment and every day. I feel you have earn your Hot Rod Lincoln.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::whooopie::clap:

We named the Lincoln "Silver Bullet". It is a fun car to drive especially on long trips. We added the mags, new stereo system with cameras, window tint and have been thinking of a performance chip or programer. We are getting about 23 - 24 mpg on the highways and 17 - 18 in town. I like this car so much that I might buy another if one falls in my lap and then stash it the shop.

That Silver Bullet is built liked an army tank. Man it is clean and I love your gas mileage in town and on interstate highway.

I bet your trunk space can hold six (6) large pieces of luggage with no problems.

I was sorely tempted by a 1969 Buick GS in excellent original condition with 40K documented original miles that was available locally for $5K but thought about it too long and it was gone.

I want to get completely out of front wheel drive, which are a booger-bear to repair, and hopefully out of anything with a computer in the engine. I have a Ford SUV I need to replace with a different vehicle.

We also have a 2014 Jeep Compass. We will have to wean ourselves off fully gas powered cars eventually but might try a hybrid first before giving up our reliable gas powered vehicles.

In looking at these photos, one line from a song comes to mind...
"I've got a car, as big as a whale, and it's about to set sail...."

Glad that we've all got different tastes, and a car market that's large enough for all of us to find what we like. :)

Love shack baby, lol.

I never thought I was a Lincoln Town Car guy and neither did my wife. Her dad drove big Town Cars for decades and his friends drove big Town Cars and DeVilles. I liked big trucks and suv's. My lovely wife said she would never drive the Lincoln but she has put more miles on it than me.

We test drove a 2019 Lexus RX450h and thought it was nice but a bit small. We also test drove a Toyota Venza and I liked the looks and feel of the Venza better. Both of these used cars were selling close enough to msrp that we decided to get a new one but changed our minds as the prices were crazy out of line, imo. A friend bought a Rav 4 hybrid and tells me he doesn't like it that much on road trips.

We are set in our ways car wise, never learned to drive a standard stick shift. Learned to drive with no power steering, Windows were manual and car only open with a key. Had no air conditioning . Not saying it was better but what you don’t know you don’t miss. First time we rented a car it had all the updated features, we then started buying cars with more options. Not looking to go all electric, but I suppose if we don’t have a choice, don’t see it happening soon though.

I did replace the Pioneer entertainment center with the Kenwood last summer. Im probably going to add a starlink mini soon. Also had a set of Michlin tires installed.

Next road trip is coming up soon.
