Marriott Week - Florida Club - BeachPlace

I currently have a 2BR platinum in BeachPlace. I can convert the 2BR to a 1BR for one week and a studio for one week. Essentially changing my one week 2BR to two separate weeks in a studio and a 1BR. They call it a lock off and charge $95 to process the lock off. That allows me to trade or do something different with the two separate weeks. They already charged me $99 for Interval. I can add the two weeks to Interval and book something from Interval. If I book a Marriott property they charge a $164 booking fee for each week I book into something else. If I book a non-Marriott property they charge a $239 booking fee for each week. If I need to change or cancel a reservation they charge $45.

Or, I can enroll in Abound for $250 per year and all fees are waived. I would get a refund of the $99 I already paid to Interval. It may be the way to go, but it sounds like there is a catch?

They want me to speak to someone at Abound. I would guess they will try to sell me points that come with an additional maintenance fee. I most certainly could find it resale on Tug.

My questions are, is Abound the only way to save on all the fees? If, so does one have to buy points into Abound to have access to the $250 fee? If so, what is the least expensive way to join Abound? Are there any other options to save on all the fees without joining Abound? Thank you.

When did you purchase the week? Was it resale or direct from Marriott?

Resale. Just hit my account last week.
Okay. Well, then it probably isn't going to be worth it to save a few fees. You're talking about having to consider spending $40,000+ to get that week enrolled. You will need to buy a lot of Club Points, probably 2,500 or 3,000.

That is what I suspected. I purchased the week to do the lock off and to have access to Interval cash opportunities. Maintenance is $2,400. $1,200 per week is better if the one week is broken up into two weeks. However, with all of the fees, the weeks will be $1,500+ per week. Are there enough benefits in the program for all the fees?

Unfortunately that is a big drawback of resale Marriott traders. All the extra fees. It can make the week much more expensive to own and exchange. There were perhaps better options out there as a trader; Grand Chateau, Grande Vista and Willow Ridge have cheaper annual maintenance fees. Beachplace is good if you plan to go there fairly often, at least in Platinum season. Outside of that it isn't one of the more desirable Marriott weeks to own to trade.

As for if the benefits are worth the fees. That is hard to say. Getting a week in a 2BR for about $1,500 isn't too bad. If you can utilize II getaways, you can bring down the overall cost per night of vacation quite a bit.

Hopefully learning the getaway system will bring value along with whatever the studio can be traded for.
