[ July 2024 ] It's 112º right now at 5:00 pm

It's like 89 here, and we've got another severe thunderstorm warning again. Last week was Tornados - which never used to happen. I hope we just get some rain.
This map doesn't indicate they never used to happen. Rarer than western NY and Ohio, but not never.

I snowmobiled every winter for about 35 years. It was fairly common to have frozen beers with bulging cans. They turn into Coors slushies, lol.

I grew up in Minnesota. On one New Years Day, we went snowmobiling. Air temp was -30 F. (Note, this was the actual temperature and not "what it feels like). We were cruising around 30-35 mph. So, the air-chill factor had to be much lower. The wine skin container laying on the engine froze solid. As we raced about, there wasn't a single inch of skin exposed. I had trouble with the moisture from my eyes making my goggles from fogging up. We stopped to have a wiener roast and I used a pocket knife to sharpen a twig for holding a wiener. It was so cold that the blade snapped. The wiener broke in two.

I know that this is a thread on being really hot, but I've experienced both ends of the spectrum. The coldest I've experienced was -55 F. The propane tank had trouble "gassifying" enough propane to run the propane furnace.

I have also experienced 122 F in Palm Desert. It was so hot that the outdoor ice machines were not working and would only put out cool water rather than cubes. I prefer warm weather but not that warm.

I can attest. I wasn't snowmobiling, but I do remember temps < -20 °F in the Twin Cities.

For me, the high was 117 degrees while riding my motorcycle and -18 with snow and wind while duck hunting. I would be bummed out if my weiner broke in two too.

Ha ha. You have a good sense of humor.

I’m enjoying the 50’s and sunny here in New Hampshire. I could never live in a hot climate.

Please note: I started this thread in JULY - and it was brought out of moth balls today.
