Jobs-not a eulogy of praise

I see it as only 'slave' labor if they're forced to work those jobs. As long as that didn't occur, I'm not going to make it an issue. Yes, it may be considered slave wages, but if that was better than what they had anyhow, why is that a major problem?

I personally don't have any Apple products.

I didn't know anythingaobut Stever Jobs until he die. I live under a rock.

But what gave me pause about how 'sainted' he is beign portrayed since death is a few personal actions he'd taken in his life. Personal, moral decisions.

Like fathering a child and then claiming to be sterile in court to avoid paternity charges. This was approx. 25 or so years ago when paternity tests weren't a dime a dozen. What was he willing to do to a child to save his own skin? What was he implying about the mother of that child to essentially say, you don't know who the father is (you slut) because it couldn't have been me, but not because we didn't have sex (you slut). What did he do to that woman's life by abandoning her and HIS child? He later admitted the child and 'reconciled' with her.

Apparently he was also ok with lying and cheating Steven Wosniak out of about $4,000 (round number) when they were both poor starving students. Mr. Wosniak reports this incidence in his biography so ok, maybe it's not all true, but still...

I am ok with not speaking ill of the dead per say, but to only focus on the good isn't a balanced/realistic view of a person's life either.

Maybe the best thing is to say "He did great things. But he did scummy things too. Like most of us do. He was human, not a god."

I guess some of you never heard of "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all," especially on the death of somebody. To me, it is in extremely bad taste to denigrate somebody directly after they have died. Can you imagine how your family/friends would feel if somebody did the same upon your death.

I know my saying this comes across as moralistic, but I can't help the way I feel. Obviously for some of you YMMV.

With the population of China being 1,331,460,000, there are probably not enough jobs you might approve of to go around.

Dear Tuggers,

When I die, please don't euologize me.

Well then, let's get the dirty laundry part done with ahead of time!

Go ahead and list out everything you've ever done that someone else might find immoral, unethical or distasteful. Go ahead and throw in the things you aren't sure about so we can fully assess your motivations. Be sure to include anything you've bought that may have been made by someone that doesn't live as well as you do. Or was at any time in manufacturing, shipping or merchandising handled by someone not quite making American min wage + bennies.

When you've completed that list, see if you can find offsetting actions you've taken to benefit mankind. Rescuing kittens, reading to the blind, taking meals to the elderly ...

Kind of like a weighted pros vs cons list, we will assess and determine your relative merit as a human being. Then you will have the peace of mind of not being dissed once you're gone, you can face judgement and humiliation while still living! :cheer:

:)

I'm amazed that this thread is still up here. It's not about Steve Jobs, it's about social/economic policies of shipping jobs overseas with all the related issues of unemployment, prices, human rights.....surely controversial social topics.

There's that. :D

But I'm amazed the OP is being raked over the coals for this thread. It says right in the title that it's "not a eulogy of praise." Sure it's possible to disagree with the content of his post, but getting on him for not praising Jobs in this thread is somewhat foolish considering the OP's warning.

Had there not been all of the posthumous deification of Jobs, this thread would likely not exist. He was no DaVinci, Edison or Einstein (comparisons I've heard). He was the CEO of a major corporation. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sad that he died at a young age, and my condolences go out to his family, but beyond that his passing brings me no more or less sorrow than that of any other semi-public figure.

I'm not. The OP deliberately opened a political/social commentary thread under the ruse of it being a "non-praise eulogy".

Speak for yourself. I didn't buy any of it.

I've been Apple-free since 1976.

an apple a day keeps the viruses away....and man do i love that.

pc's can go directly to ---- without passing go, etc. etc.....never again. apple rules

This thread is in extremely poor taste. Wow. In addition, it is about controversial political and social issues.

Thread closed.
