I have 2 AC’s in my II account. I have not deposited any weeks yet for exchange.
Do you need to deposit a week to use an AC? Or is it like a gift that you have to pay for?

AC are a way for II to clear unwanted inventory. They will be put into your account on a regular basis. Only cost will be the booking fee.

As an RCI member who doesn't have access to II, I'm curious about this . I had thought that ACs were given to folks to encourage them to deposit high demand weeks. Instead, it sounds more like everyone gets a couple, making them kinda similar to the RCI Last Call deals. Does that mean II doesn't always have ~$300 weeks available to everyone close to check in date? Does the limiting it to only a couple of units per account mean that the quality / availability of those last minute weeks is better with II?

Many thanks - I think we're going to get II when we find a WM contract, but I'm still learning about the II ins and outs.

Not all II ACs are created equally. And remember that II also sells Getaways.

Yes, sometimes they will offer an AC for depositing a desirable week. For example, if I lock off a Marriott 2BR into its separate 1BR and studio, I may get 2 ACs from that deposit if Interval has a promo for deposit running. In general, these types of ACs seem to have more "power" to pull better weeks, and also may have a longer term until they expire. Also, these may allow you to place a search request.

Sometimes II unexpectantly drops 1 or more ACs into your account, as mentioned above. These are of variable duration. It's not always easy to find a desirable trade because II is offering the less desirable weeks for these ACs.

The cost on an AC trade varies, usually from about $250-ish to $400-ish. Some of our past AC trades have been gems, but we've had some duds.

I have 2 II accounts, so I have a bunch of ACs at the moment. I don't know a quick way to automate searching, so it can be time consuming to search with multiple ACs. ACs tend to have different fees, so if I do find a week I might want, I then check if it's available via my different ACs and select the least costly.

Also, you can't always assume that an AC is the cheapest or best way to go. Occasionally I have been able to purchase a Getaway for less than an AC trade.

We've owned our timeshare since 2004. I have learned a lot about the timeshare game since then (thank you TUGgers), but I still find the inner workings of Interval International somewhat mysterious.

The difference is ACs can be booked further in advance that RCI Last Call which is 45 days I think. ACs are usually up to six months or so. I've found a few great bargains and I never deposit a week because I own Vistana points. They just show up in my account but you have to be diligent with your searching because availability frequently changes.

II gives out ACs for a varity of reason and as seen here, for no reason.

The ones you get for deposit are good for a year and you can put in an OGS for what you are looking for, which is nice.

You may also get one during one of their specials "buy a getaway, get an AC". These are usually restricted to inventory available during Flex time.

As a general statement: they are good for use in in the off season or in areas with a lot of inventory (Orlando). But there is some great LM availability out there (check the AC thread in sightings).

For the price, I make long weekend out of a lot of them. Can't go wrong.
