As a 5 star owner I have been a Lifetime Platinum status holder with Bonvoy since the merger. This benefit continues to be advertised as a benefit of ownership at this level. On Monday I was downgraded to Gold and I have been told by Bonvoy that only Vistana can rectify this. Really, I have to work to resolve this with Vistana when the Bonvoy systems show I was “Lifetime Platinum” last week. I have sent an email and tried to call Vistana, but as you might expect they have a few other things going on at this time. I will try again to call tomorrow. In the meantime, is anyone else experiencing an improper downgrade? Maybe I misunderstood whose Lifetime was the measure for how Bonvoy defines lifetime status.

You should have 2 statuses in Bonvoy. There is Lifetime status which is not associated with timeshare ownership. Vistana/Marriott ownership gets whatever Bonvoys status as long as they continue to own timeshare at that level. What are the 2 statuses that show up?

If you have only 90 nights then you were not Lifetime Platinum. You may have been Platinum courtesy of 5-Star Vistana status but that is not Lifetime Status. Of course, if you continue to be 5-Star then it is a continuing Platinum status similar to Lifetime Platinum. Lifetime Platinum is only granted by Bonvoy and requires 600 nights and at least 10 years of status at Platinum or higher.

So you have Lifetime Silver. If you are still a 5* Elite, you should have Platinum but not Lifetime Platinum.

I know a lot changed when Marriott and Vistana merged along with changes to Bonvoy, but I thought Vistana owners got Platinum Elite in the old Starwood Preferred guest. After Starwood and Marriott merged the two programs Starwood Platinum = Bonvoy Gold?

I'm 3-star with Vistana so got lifetime Bonvoy Gold Elite. Not sure what 4 and 5 star got.

I believe 3 and 4 star get Bonvoy Gold and 5 star gets Platinum.

And remember, these "lifetime" statuses are good only as long as you are an owner in good standing.

Actually anyone with a Vistana developer purchase receives Bonvoy Gold. 5-Star Elite receives Bonvoy Platinum.

Just ended a call with Vistana who got a Bonvoy representative on the line. All are in agreement that I should be Platinum as a 5 Star owner. Bonvoy also confirmed that they grant Lifetime status to Vistana owners so that they are not required to have the annual stay requirement and risk getting downgraded for not meeting the regular stay requirements.

Bonvoy is opening a case as it seems their algorithm only looked at stays and not ownership or other Lifetime status when performing the annual status evaluations that take place in March of each year. Seems that due to this algorithm other owners may have been downgraded where they did not meet the regular stay requirement and their ownership was ignored.

Was told this would be resolved in 3 to 5 business days.

Again, everyone should be checking their Bonvoy status, particularly where your status is via ownership and not annual stays.

Lifetime is not granted to Vistana or Marriott owners.

Strange. I no longer own my Marriott Weeks and haven't stayed in a Marriott Hotel in the last 10 years but about 2 months ago received a fancy metal Lifetime Platinum Card in the mail...

Correct, it is for life, not lifetime. Each year at status renewal time if you still meet the ownership requirements, they are supposed to grant you the Gold/Platinum status for another year... if you already earned a higher status from the hotel side, it would be active instead...

I gave up trying to get credit for 14 nites I stayed at Vistana resorts (WKORV and WSJ) in 2019.
They just made it too difficult.
I don’t plan on staying at MAR hotels anytime soon.

I just booked a November Vistana timeshare stay through owner site and the reservation automatically showed up as an upcoming trip in my Marriott Bonvoy account. Is that new? Presumably your trips did not show up in the Bonvoy account in 2019 after the reservations were made.

I have yet to have a Vistana stay show up automatically on Marriott.com. I also have had to fight and then give up on getting elite night credit after SVV stays. I am lifetime platinum and would rarely get even close to 50 nights in a year to qualify for any of their elite level "gifts".

It is interesting. In January, I had booked several WKV reservations for March 2020 and those also showed up before I cancelled. I wonder if they link developer-bought timeshare accounts differently from resale owners? Just a thought.

I’ve never had a Vistana stay NOT show up in my Marriott account. But all my weeks are developer-purchased. My understanding is that you don’t get any Marriott credit or linking for resale purchases unless you managed to negotiate that.

i always get Bonvoy nights credited for my Vistana stays and have never had to call (well, maybe once during the merger when things were a little screwed up.). So it does seem like something is going wrong in your case.

Just to be clear. Any "lifetime" status from TS ownership is the lifetime of your ownership - not your lifetime.

My ts stays at Vistana and Marriott have showed no issue in my Bonvoy account.

We have that problem every time - I'm the lead on the account so they credit to me if the reservation is in my name. We make our villa stays in DH's name because they count as stays for his status, which is currently Titanium. Even though I make the reservations in his name, they end up getting garbled in transmission from Vistana to Marriott. We fix it at check in and confirm it before the final invoice is printed.

Even when that doesn't work, he's been able to use the app to report a missing stay and gets credit in a few days.

My status (earned the same way as your wife's) is also still Platinum on the website.

My 2nd week at WSJ last June was credited - my 1st week was not.
My SO reservation at WKORV that followed my Home Resort reservation was also not credited.
When I tried a couple of times to get credit - I was denied because they stated at the time that Vistana TS stays did not count. I sent them the section of their policies that states that they are, but gave up when I got no response and tired of calling (and being transferred to others). It became to much of a hassle and time.
(e.g. send them a copy of my invoice of my stay (again...). At first they said it was because I didn’t spend any money, I sent section of their policy that states that VSE counts. They gave me credit for 1 week at WSJ, but not other. Nite stay credits requests are week by week - so one associate gave me credit. The other... never heard back.

There is another thread about this topic.
