Hilton Timeshare Presentation T&C

I have a vacation coming up and I think I'm in a bit of a predicament. This time last year, I booked a regular stay at Hilton Grand Waikikian and prior to my arrival, I had received a call asking if I would like to attend a 2 hour timeshare presentation. I said sure why not and at the end of the presentation, I bought the VIP package. I knew I wanted to come back the following year so I made my VIP reservation fairly quickly.

About 3 months after coming back from Hawaii, I saw a Hilton promo package for Vegas (4 days/3 nights ~$226 total). I bought it and had intentions of going to Vegas towards the end of 2022. For various reasons, I decided not to go and called the Hilton number to see if I could cancel and receive a refund. They had stated that the package is non-refundable, but I could exchange the location I wanted to be at and pay the difference if needed. They listed Hawaii as one of the available locations and I thought it would be perfect if I could use this package to sort of extend my VIP stay. Hilton concierge just called me wanting to confirm my promo reservation and asked me 3 questions, one of them being "Have you attended a timeshare presentation within the last year?". I said no, which was the truth as my presentation was exactly a year ago last week.

My concern is that fact that my 90 min VIP tour is on a Thursday and my 2 hour tour from the promo deal is 6 days after that. I'm not sure if I'm breaking the T&C of the promo package:

You are not eligible to participate in this promotion if you:

• (i) have an open, incomplete package requiring attendance at a sales presentation,
• (ii) have attended a Hilton Grand Vacations sales presentation at any property within the last year, and/or
• (iii) are an employee of Hilton Grand Vacations, Hilton Worldwide or their affiliates.

Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated.

The way I am reading your facts, you would be in violation of (ii) for your promo tour after having taken a VIP sales presentation 6 days earlier.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I might just skip that one and pay the $500 fine, which seems like a much better deal than paying the full room rate.

In the long run, you might be better off buying a HGVC (Resale Only).
You could then book your stays with points. -- Just a thought. --

Yes, I'm currently in the process of looking at resales. Do you know if a person is allowed to buy a HGVC resale prior to attending a Hilton timeshare presentation?

Yes. HGV will not know about the purchase until the deed is transferred to the buyer’s account.

Yes, and in fact you can usually continue to attend presentations after you purchase resale.

They should not have sold you the 3 night package or automatically refunded it when they found out you has an open VIP.

No one knows that I have the VIP package and also the promo package. I'm just trying to cover my bases if/when they do find out I have both, which I believe would happen if I were to attend the VIP presentation and then 6 days later, attend the promo presentation.

One could argue a couple of thing here:

1. When you signed up for these, you actually had not had presentations within the specified time period
2. They should have looked this up and not sold you conflicting packages

Not sure I'd try to argue either of these. It's also quite possible that this will slip under the radar. Not sure I'd chance it. Just throwing things against the wall.

Before you do that, call them. Tell them that you made a mistake and missed that part of the rules. Maybe they will work something out.

I agree. Part of me definitely wants to chance it, but I know logically I shouldn't. My vacation is in a month, so I think the safest thing for me to do is skip the VIP presentation, but attend the promo presentation so I won't get charged the nightly rates.

I was thinking of calling them too, but I'm nervous that they'll tell me the trip will have to be cancelled and the trip is a month from now too. The only reason I thought about this conflict was due to a representative calling me on Monday and asking me the questions I mentioned in my OG post. I decided to look up the T&C of the Vegas package and figured that applies to all promo packages, which leaves me kind of in a bind. It seems that VIP concierge and promo package concierge have no way of knowing I have both or they just have very poor communication with each other.

Can you simply skip the VIP presentation? Isn't a presentation a requirement of the VIP package?

Yes, it's a requirement to attend the presentation for the VIP package. I would have to pay a $500 fine if I skip the VIP presentation, which isn't too bad of a cost when you compare the penalty for skipping out or violating the T&C of the promo package i.e. paying the nightly rate, which in my case would be $700 a night for 6 days.

Yes, if lying is an option that would work for the OP, this can work. Different folks have different values on violating a rule versus openly lying.

Personally, I would either call and check with HGV on my eligibility or just go and attend both presentations. Unless you used different names, HGV knows or at least should know you have multiple promotions.

You can always go and claim ignorance of the T&C, i would not set myself up for a certain penalty my skipping the presentation. Just my two cents.
