I attended the HGVC "Owner Orientation" in Dallas this morning, with over 300 other owners. I was concerned it might be a sales pitch, but it was not. In fact, there were NO salespeople in attendance only Owner Services folks. It was exactly as advertised, an attempt to help HGVC Owners understand what they own, how the program works and how to get the most of out their timeshare ownership.

They did a good job of going over how to use the HGVC Owner Website, covered seasons, usage, the difference between Bonus Points and Club Points and other fine details of the program. Key takeaways from this:

1. Clearly, most people do not buy resale. Most were shocked to hear what we paid for our 9,600 Platinum Points at Kohala Suites. I told those that were interested about TUG and the very knowledgeable and helpful community here.

2. HGVC is working to update their reservation system which currently requires owners to book separate reservations with Club Points and Bonus points. Sometime in 2019 they hope to have updated the software to let owners comingle their points and book just one reservation. Rather than having to check-in and check-out of one and into another.

3. As others have already noted, they are working on bringing their Florida Affiliates into their online booking platform.

4. I made a point of asking about HGVC owner's inability to access Getaways on our RCI Portal. The response was "We are aware of that. You have to call in." I was not encouraged by their response, so do not expect progress on this front.

5. Helpful hint: If you need to save your 2018 Club Points you will save $25 if you save them on-line between October 1 and October 7.

If you are an HGVC Owner and are thinking of going, I would encourage you to do so. The workshop moves along quickly, they have time set aside for questions from the audience and they have experts afterward to answer individual questions. They also have a raffle at the end with two high-end prizes: a certificate for 5,000 Bonus HGVC points and a 7-night stay through RCI. Other small gifts were awarded too.

If you have not read about the Owner Orientation in your HGVC Club Newsletter you can find more information on the HGVC Owner Website> Help> Club Member Education Workshops.
The next one will be in Atlanta, GA on December 15.

Thanks for sharing. I would attend if they hold one in the SF Bay Area.

Overall, HGVC is well run and it's nice that they are reaching out to owners to help them understand and maximize what they own.

Interesting report and good initiative on the part of HGVC. We would attend if they held one somewhere in the Toronto/Montreal/Upstate New York area that we could easily drive to. Closest so far was Chicago, which we might have considered but did not hear about in time.
