Help me get rid of my Diamond Resorts timeshare! Desperate!

We desperately want to get rid of our timeshare. We stopped paying probably 6 months ago because we couldn’t afford it anymore. What are our options?
It sounds to me that the OP has already made the hard decision to stop paying. This should eventually lead to foreclosure.

Sorry, but have to wonder; If you couldn't afford the original maintenance fees then why did you purchase to begin with??? Is that the true issue here or is it buyers remorse?

RCI is the trading company which you are able to use to exchange your use around the world........

.
How many times does a timeshare salesperson tells perspective buyers about maintenance fees and their yearly increases?

They don't.

Well mine said the were about half what a hotel room would cost and can change over time. Didn't mention percentages, or give the last 10 years of financials to review or even explain how a 1 bedroom, 2 bedrom and 3 bedroom shares are calculated nor that the season doesn't matter.

Timeshares are far too complicated to be learned about in 90 minutes. They are SOLD and not bought. People have no idea what they want, need or are signing up for. This gives a good idea a terrible reputation.

If it’s a desirable resort, book a week and rent it out on Redweek. Even if you don’t make a profit, you would cover the maintenance fee.

Do you have a home week? Or points? If the week is deeded and you keep it, I don’t think they can deny access. I have always used mine. check out Redweek look for Hilton resorts.

But the sales people will quickly and frequently tell perspective buyers how quickly and greatly the cost of a hotel/motel room increases.

TS sales people might not do so but sales people for these exit/cancel/relief companies certainly emphasize this. :giggle:

I can remember when a major selling pitch from TS sales persons was the daily cost per night would be cheaper than staying in a hotel. Plus, your family would have one or two bedrooms with a full kitchen to reduce eating out at a restaurant.

That is what sold us on the concept in 1982. Even when we were young and had no kids, we did not want to eat all our meals in restaurants or spend evenings sitting on the hotel bed watching TV. Heck, we even booked an efficiency unit for our honeymoon so we didn't need to go out to eat as much and had a couch to sit on to watch TV! A 1 or 2 bedroom timeshare sounded so much more appealing.

I think it's just a nomenclature confusion, Hilton created a mess.

HVC = the former DRI resorts - you still have this access they cant revoke it.

HGVC = the Hilton Grand Vacation Resorts - you never had this, they haven't removed anything.

The salesman obviously did not make this clear, he was trying to get you to upgrade.
maybe the salesman was confused!

This has all been interesting to read. When purchasing Diamond Points, we decided that IF we could not pay it off in a month or two....then NO PURCHASE! We are all adults, and hopefully understand what the word "payments" is all about. Getting caught in the excitement of the moment, one must "still do the math". Alas, just over 50,000+ points with Diamond....increasing maintenance fees, enough was enough. Even banking the points, we would not be able to use them that fast. Then Covid....who would have guessed that...world events, health events, family events....it is time to think "when you pull the trigger" purchasing what exactly will that entail for you for the next 10+ years....if ALL THINGS go perfectly!!!! We left Diamond thru Transitions just as Covid hit.....no regrets.

Thank you for mentioning Transitions. I had not heard of this program before. What is the process? Do you know whether DRI still accepts units through Transitions? Would appreciate a PM.

When you sign into your Diamond account, there should be some place that says Transitions. Just remember everything must be paid in full.
