Happy Aloha Friday

Happy Aloha 4th of July! We are in the middle of spending 2 weeks at our home in Reno. Here at 5,000 feet, it's always 10-15º cooler than our home in Northern, CA, so we enjoy coming here in the summer. We had some excitement a couple of days ago when a grass & brush fire ignited in some hills on the south east side of the city. Amazingly, a thunder storm rolled through at exactly the right time, and drenched the 290 acre fire. We are at the top of a hill, so we could see the fire clearly on the opposite side of the valley.

Here's today's view from our patio - windy today. Although the mountains in the picture look black, they are actually dark green pine forests.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! So far it's been a great summer. Not too hot and strong trade winds. Thursday was all rain and water at the dip was high and flowing pretty quick for a while. Let's see what the rest of the summer will be like.

This week's picture keeps us here on Molokai. I took this picture of the Halawa Valley from our last trip to Maui. Passing by Kalaupapa and Halawa are always highlights to that flight.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

Aloha Friday!

A bike trail from our house goes up to Stillwater, MN on the St. Croix River. On a nice day I'll ride up to enjoy the scenery.

Happy Aloha Friday. We live close to Heeia State Park so we take the dogs there. It's very close to the marina. You get good views of the sandbar, Chinaman's Hat, MCBH, and Coconut Island. Here are a few pics from our last visit to the park. Weather was the usual this week. It's currently 74 with a high of 83 today.

Happy Aloha Friday from Salem, Oregon. We are starting a week of 90°+ daily Highs. Today is a day of Rest. On Monday I walked Dogs at the Oregon Humane Society for 2 Hours in the Max Heat for the day. Tuesday Patti had her 4 Hours of Gardening in Bush Park (across the street) and change of colour for her Finger Nails. The Group is The Mission Street Parks Conservancy. It has a formal Agreement/Contract with the City of Salem. Then we went to a friend's House for Dinner. On Wednesday the BOD for the Gardening Group met at our House for 4 Hours starting at 9am. Which means I vacuumed the House and cleaned the Bathroom early that morning. Then Wednesday evening I again walked Dogs for 2 Hours. On Wednesday Evening Patti had her SCAN (South Central Area Neighborhood) Meeting. She represents Mission Street Parks at SCAN. SCAN keeps asking her to join their BOD. She declines and tells them she has more than enough on her plate to keep her busy. On Thursday morning Patti had her 2+ Hours cleaning Cat Kennels in the morning at the Humane Society. Also on Thursday Patti's Sorority (BETA [Any BETA Sister's out there]) had their Summer Evening Barbecue at our House. Which means I spent many hours Wednesday and Thursday getting the Backyard and Patio ready. Also I was the Cook for the Barbecue. I am the only Husband/SO left in the Group. This is not a normal week.

It's kind of a happy and sad week for us. We decided about 6 months ago to try to find our dog Roxy a good home. Actually, it's been about a year. The main reason is she is not a little kid dog for some reason. It isn't that people don't want Roxy. There have been several that we didn't think would be a good fit. This week we found two families. The family we decided on is a multi-generational family that is currently without a pet.

In the last 6 months I've been able to train her to stay in the yard and come when she doesn't want to with a shock collar. This was a big frustration for us but has been solved.

She is one of the smartest dogs we ever owned and I think maybe the last.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! Summer temps have arrived. It gets to about 88 degrees everyday and then down to about 75 degrees every night. The trade winds keep it all comfortable though.

This week's picture keeps us here on Molokai and out further East to Halawa Bay. I took this picture from the road a few miles from the entrance to the bay.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

Happy Aloha Friday!

When we stayed at The Point at Poipu in February 2023, it was the first time we saw a pair moli, or Laysan albatross. When they weren't doing their goofy mating dance, they were zooming back and forth along the coast line. I took this picture from our lanai while they were resting.

When we came back in February 2024 we saw them again. This time the female was on a nest. I took the picture with a telephoto lens so I didn't have to get close enough to disturb her.

We were really happy to see in a recent The Garden Island article, that a chick hatched and is big enough to start flying lessons.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

When a moli, or Laysan albatross, took its first flight from the hotel grounds of The Point at Poipu Kauai on July 9, Hob Osterlund was thrilled. “She was just over five months old,” said Osterlund, founder of the Kauai Albatross Network, and an award-winning author and photographer. “True to form. Others of the roughly 250 chicks on the island had also started fledging.” However, something else set this particular chick apart. “Never in recorded history has there been a successful moli nest in Poipu, or anywhere else on the Garden Island’s South Shore,” Osterlund said. “Local folks report seeing albatross in flight, and in courtship on the ground. But no one could remember a chick growing up there.” Jaime Shigeta, the general manager at The Point at Poipu, is a primary key to the success that was marked by the fledging, Osterlund said.

Happy Aloha Friday from The First Coast! We’re into the second half of July with a little over 6 weeks until September and the hint of autumn. Yes, I prefer to skip right past the dog days of summer. 🥵

Happy Aloha Friday from windward Oahu. I've posted pictures of Mokoli'i (Chinaman's Hat), but I don't think I've posted this one. It's from Kamehameha Hwy, a few miles from home going north. It's one of my favorite views on the drive. There are always (sail)boats in this area and I'm always tickled when I get to see this view.

You guys are living in the Land of Paradise. IMHO

Happy Aloha Friday. Our weather is hot hot hot and I like it. The kids and grandkids are taking me tubing through the Yakima Canyon today. I was tempted to bring a fly rod but decided to just go with the flow.

In front of the Schooner Landing in Maui is Waipuilani Park and beautiful sunsets. Some of you might recognize this tree.

Awesome Sunset Photo:
I must shared this photo with my spouse, who loved to watch beautiful sunsets.

My first thought when seeing the title of this thread today was "Is it Friday again?!!" But I guess that just makes it one week closer to my next visit to Hawaii, this coming October!

Happy Aloha Friday!!! It's the last Aloha Friday of July and we move to August. Summer is moving along.

This week's picture keeps us here on Molokai at WaveCrest during a low tide sunset. It's been a great summer so far.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

Happy Aloha Friday!

In 2023, four of us spent two weeks In Poipu and one week in Kāʻanapali. Unfortunately, I got COVID and had to spend the last two days of the trip confined to our room. I didn't have much to do except to sit on the sofa, take pictures of Lanai and Molokai, and wait for the morning mist and the rising sun to make rainbows. Tough quarantine! 😁 This picture got photobombed by a bird. My only symptom was a runny nose, and none of the other three got COVID. I actually enjoyed the quiet time since I had been acting as tour guide the whole trip.

Happy Aloha Friday everyone from Coastal Virginia. It is going to be hot and humid on the last Friday in July. I wish it would ran.

Artringwald, a tour guide on the Island is a tiresome job, because there are so many places and beautiful natural places to visit.

I called Hawaii, the land of paradise because I can see the work of God from millions of years ago. Hawaii is just a beautiful state , where in some places the beautiful landscape have not change over time. IMHO.

Awesome photo of that taking flight to heaven.

I do enjoy it because I love Hawaii, but it does wear me out. If people ask me about Hawaii I warn them, it's like turning on a faucet that you can't turn off. 😁

Aloha. We haven't left CA since February, but have been done a bunch of spots here, from S Barbara to Tahoe to Sonoma. I keep reading about record highs in the northeast. Here is how volatile our weather has been on the coast: May & June sunnier and warmer than usual. In July, we're getting our May/June weather.
But, as usual, the range is maybe 8 F degrees. Just made return flight res from HNL for December. TIme passes ...

Happy Aloha Friday. @artringwald - We had family visit this past week so DW and I played tour guide for a bit. One of the places we took them to was Laniakea Beach ("Turtle Beach") and it did not disappoint. We saw several Honu near the shore and 2 of them decided they needed a rest. We also took them to the sandbar, but it was nowhere in sight. Extremely high tide, but we did see plenty of Honu. So, instead of shark week, we had turtle week.

Happy Aloha Friday. It was a good week. Waikiki Beach at dusk is one of our favorite places. Maybe next year we will be back.
