Happy Aloha Friday

Happy Aloha Friday from Gulf Coast Texas, where it’s hot and humid but no scenic views from my back door! Or from my front door, either. I’m following the episodic Kilauea eruption - fountains 1,000 feet high at the moment, probably won’t last the day - and hoping (probably unrealistically) that it’s still going on in October when we’re there.

Happy Aloha Friday .... One thing I love about West Maui is the whale watching from the Kapalua Coastal Trail or a tour.

the whale watching, the cycling around the West Loop, the few people in the ocean in spots with great swimming

We haven't visited the area since the fire. Has it changed much ?

Happy Aloha Friday from the First Coast! Hot, hot, hot!!! I'm just trying to stay indoors and keep cool. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Happy Aloha Friday. Took a trip to Seattle last week. Here are some pics. One from the air as we approached Seattle and one from downtown. Hope all is well.

You will have to ask others. After spending almost 190 nights on Maui from 2001 to 2020, we left in the first wk of Feb2020, planning to not go back for the foreseeable future. We got tired of the bad attitudes. Plus, on that trip, I decided I had cycled up Haleakala and around the West Loop enough for a lifetime, so one of the biggest draws of Maui was gone. Maui changed tremendously during those 20 yrs, mostly not for the better.
The day we left was about 7 wks (or 8? I guess?) before lockdowns hit and then the fire hit Lahaina. Those put an exclamation on our "not interested!!" in going back. Saying goodbye to Maui was why I bought HGVC pts for Waikiki. Strangely, during those 20 yrs, we spent < 30 days on Oahu, vs almost 190 on Maui.

I do have friends who live in Napili, but they have very different view-points than visitors do.

We haven't been back to Maui for maybe 4 years. The tipping point was boredom. We do like Waikiki better than the rest of Hawaii but even that bores me a bit after a few weeks. I think I'm liking Puerto Vallarta , Cabo and the South West USA these days.

These last few Postings have caused me to reconsider Hawaii. In 23 years we have been to Maui 4 times (it was our Honeymoon location). We have been to Kauai about 6 times (Patti's favorite). The Big Island 3 times. Oahu once. What is there to see or do that we have not done. After our first trip of 7 days to Maui all our other trips to the Islands have been two to three weeks in length. Our last trip was in January - February 2024 to the Big Island for 3 weeks. Mainly future trips would be just to get away from the gloomy winter weather in Oregon. That is also why we travel to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico and various locations in Australia. We still need to get to the Perth area.

Do you like Australia as a snow bird destination ? We haven't been to this area yet but have considered it. My brother in law likes to travel to South East Asia and Northern Australia for scuba.

We have been to Fiji (once), New Zealand (3 times), and Australia 4 times. Some of these trips have been combinations i.e. Fiji and first trip to New Zealand. One trip was 2 weeks in New Zealand (2 different locations) then a week on Tasmania, then a week in Sydney. This past Winter we spent a week on Phillip Island and then 2 weeks in Melbourne. During this 2 weeks we spent 4 days and 3 nights on Tasmania. Our favorite place in the World is Tasmania. They also make some of the Best Whisky in the World. It is hard to Immigrate to Australia past the age of 40 unless you have several million dollars to invest. If you are under 40 and have a skill they really need they might pay your costs of moving there. I am a Founding Member of the Tasmanian Footy Team "The Devils." They will start playing in the AFL in a couple years.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! Weather has been great and the trade winds have been strong but they keep us cool when we are golfing.🤙🏻

This week's picture keeps us here on Molokai and at WaveCrest. I was able to snap a picture of the tree trimmer from our lanai last week. No way I'm getting up there. Lol

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great Weekend!!🤙🏻🌴🌺😎

Happy Aloha Friday from The First Coast, everyone! Yep, only 2-3 more months of this oppressive heat before we move into my favorite season, autumn! DW is leaving this morning to visit family for the holiday next week. So I’ve got pet sitting, plant sitting and house sitting duties for the next week. Hopefully, we will all survive the decline in care and services until she returns. :D

I hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend!

Happy Aloha Friday from Salem Oregon. Today the High will be about 75° and Cloudy. We may buy Patti a new car today. We are looking at a BMW X1 28i. Depends on final price and how much Trade for the 11 year old KIA Sorrento with 92,000 miles. When we were in Carlsbad this Spring we saw one. It was a distinctive Pinkish Purple. Unfortunately they could only find one in Texas. Would cost a ton to ship to Oregon. They had a Portimoo Blue Metallic one Patti liked. It has about every option including the Heads Up Display. I told her she should have bought the one in Carlsbad. I told her that when we were in Carlsbad.

Happy Aloha Friday..

I decided to open up a couple of areas of our properties this last week that will benefit the kids and grandkids living next to us. I had to move the Grotto . It was about 35 years ago when I made the dirt burm and built the Grotto with left over quartz from a fireplace job. Our Mary was blessed by a few notable Catholic clergy including Bishop Bill Skylstad.

I'm thinking this land clearing project which would have taken a few days back in the day should keep me busy most of this summer.

Happy Aloha Friday! It's been mostly sunny here with occasional showers, but that's expected on the windward side of Oahu. I work from home and recently learned an interesting tactic to go from "work" to "home". A friend of mine locks the office then "commutes" (walks outside to get back) home. I decided to take a similar approach, except I hop in the Jeep and take 1 or 2 of our dogs on my "commute" home. It's a great way to get out and clear the mind. And, I get to walk through the front door and say, "Honey, I'm home!". Here are 2 pics of 1 of our dogs...one at home and one on my "commute".

My son and his spouse and our two adults grandchildren are going to Sedona, Arizona for the Fourth Of July week celebration . I said no way, because I know if it is hot in Virginia and I know it is hotter in Sedona. Right!

Slip, forget me, I know this is not about the Land of Paradise or a Happy Aloha Friday.

Posting a little early since Kim and I are battling a summer cold. So early to bed tonight.

Happy Aloha Friday!!! It's the 4th of July so we'll see a little fireworks from the lanai tonight. We may even catch some across the channel from Maui.

This week's picture takes us back to Oahu and the 26th floor of Aloha Lani. I took this picture of the full Moon shining over the Ala Wai Canal.

Enjoy and have an Awesome Aloha Friday and a Great 4th of July weekend. 🤙🏻🌺🌴😎🇺🇲

Happy Aloha Friday. In preparation for July 4th, here's a pic of HHV fireworks taken from the Star of Honolulu during a Friday dinner cruise. Not the best pic, but it gets the job done.

Happy Aloha Friday!

We like having an hibiscus plant on our deck. We have to buy a new one each spring, because, oddly enough, the plants don't like MN winters. The one we got this year has been producing new blooms every day, except for a couple of gloomy days when we got 4" of rain. It's a yellow hibiscus, ma‘o hau hele, which happens to be the state flower of Hawaii. While enjoying some of Pure Leaf's Hibiscus Herbal Tea and looking at the flowers, I thought I better take a picture of one.

Happy Aloha Friday, and Independence Day, from The First Coast, everyone! I hope you have a great holiday weekend!

Happy Aloha Friday. Fifes Peak is fairly close to our cabin. I tell everyone it got it's name from Barney. No one under 55 gets it, lol.
