I walked Charleston's King Street shopping district today. Came across some art galleries open along with a few privately owned boutiques. National chains were closed. Other boutiques have sent emails and have signs on their doors that they are not going to open yet even though they can. I saw no shoppers in any shop I could see into. Most people on the sidewalks were just taking a walk, walking their dogs, or bicycling by. Only about half were wearing masks.
I really enjoyed Charleston, so much history and nice weather and scenery.

I have spent very little time in the lower East Coast of the country. I grew up in Miami and went to grad school in New York City. But between Florida and New York City, I have not spent much time. With the Covid crisis, we plan on traveling closer to home. I hope to start visiting the beaches in GA, SC and NC.

Today I decided to take a ride to see which stores opened near me in SC and to see how many of the cars were from NC, 15 minutes away, as NC still is closed.

The stores that I saw opened in our large shopping center were Hobby Lobby, Dollar Store and Petco. Closed were Burlington, Kirkland, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Ross, Ultra, Five Below, and Rack Room Shoes.

Not sure how the SIP laws in each state define essential. AFAIK...Doesn't seem like much difference in our "locked down" state and the "open" one.

In California Petco is considered essential and has been open the entire time. We don't have Dollar Store near us but the 99 cent store is open. Lowes, Walmart and Target are wide open. Our Joanne Fabric will bring to the curb if you order online but you cannot go inside. All of the retail you listed as closed are closed too. I don't miss them because I don't shop there much.

Of course no nail, hairdresser, gyms, or tattoo shops.

IMO...The tattoo shop closure could make some parents of college kids very happy. ;)

I think the pet stores are open bc they sell pet food. For us, that is essential as we have 4 pets who are very hungry! LOL Petco closed their grooming salon but I do not know about Petsmart.

@TravelTime is PetSmart grooming open?

My dog is getting shaggy. I have heard vets take the pet out of your car and then return them. I could see this working for pet grooming. I saw a mobile pet groomer at my neighbors house recently.

We go to Petco and their glooming salon is closed. I do not know about Petco but I assume they might be closed by now too

I would suspect the rate is already high in your area of SC, Panina. One of the differences is that Novant is doing much more testing in its Charlotte-area clinics, including some dedicated pop-up testing sites. This is one of the reasons for the higher numbers in Mecklenburg (more testing of less-symptomatic people = more positive cases, but lower morbidity rates as the denominator grows.)

Of the three stores that you said were open, I would suspect that two of them have been open the whole time: Petco and the dollar store. All of them here have remained opened the entire time, because they both sell food.
